Note 2: Double Insulation: The tool is double insulated, meaning external metal parts are electrically isolated from the mains via isolation barriers, making grounding unnecessary.
Set Up
Placing the Sandpaper
- Lay the sandpaper on the base.
- Ensure the sandpaper is level with the edges.
- Align dust collection holes in the base and sandpaper; the sandpaper must be taut on the base.
Dust Collector
Your sander is equipped with a dust box. To place it:
- Insert the dust collection bag onto the back of the sander in the correct position.
Operation
ON/OFF Switch Operation
Press the ON/OFF switch to start the sander; release to stop. For continuous use, press the switch lock button after pressing the ON/OFF switch. Press the ON/OFF switch fully again to release the lock.
Variable Speed Control Dial
Change maximum speed by turning the speed selector wheel. Turn clockwise to increase speed, counterclockwise to decrease. Speed also varies with pressure applied to the ON/OFF switch (trigger).
Auxiliary Handle Adjustment
The auxiliary handle has multiple positions. Loosen or tighten the lock knob to find the best position.
Using the Sander
The workpiece must be secured. If small or prone to movement, clamp it in a vise or support it properly. Hold the sander firmly and apply gently, moving it slowly in a smooth, circular motion. Check sandpaper condition and replace when worn.
Work Tips
- Useful for wood, metal, and painted surfaces. Smooths surfaces before painting, even with fillers.
- Best suited for large, flat areas (doors), but usable on baseboards, windows, etc.
- Different sandpaper grades meet various needs. Higher grade number means finer grit. For rough work, use low grit (e.g., 60); for finishing, use higher grit (e.g., 100-120). Fine grit for rough surfaces clogs quickly.
- Let the sander do the work; do not force or apply excessive pressure, which can cause wrinkles or tears. Use a light circular motion.
- Excessive surface formation may indicate too coarse a grit or too much pressure.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Maintenance
- No additional lubrication or maintenance required; no user-serviceable parts.
- Always store in a dry place.
- Keep motor ventilation slots clean.
- Sparks in ventilation slots are normal.
- If the power cord is damaged, replace it with a special cord from the manufacturer or service agent.
Cleaning
- Keep air vents unclogged and clean.
- Never use water or chemical cleaners. Clean with a dry towel.
- Remove dust and dirt regularly with a soft brush or cloth.
- For stubborn dirt, wipe with a soft, damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid rubbing alcohol, gasoline, or other harsh cleaning agents.
- Never use caustic agents on plastic parts.
- Water must not come into contact with the tool.
Problem Solving
- Tool not working: Check outlet power and if the tool is plugged in.
- Sander not abrading: Check sandpaper condition. Replace if worn. Keep paper dry, as moisture reduces abrasive particle adhesion.
- Sander base not moving smoothly: Sandpaper may be loose, damaged, or wrinkled. Replace and try again.
- If problems persist, take the tool to a TOTAL Authorized Service Center.
Environment
- Do not dispose of electrical appliances as unsorted municipal waste; use separate collection facilities.
- Contact local authorities for collection system information.
- Improper disposal can lead to hazardous substances entering groundwater and the food chain.
- Recycle raw materials instead of disposing of them as waste.
- Sort machine, accessories, and packaging for environmentally friendly recycling.
- Plastic components are labeled for categorized recycling.
