Device Description: The Model 1816 is a compact, black electronic enclosure. On one end, it features a 3.5mm RS-232 IN/OUT port and a 12V DC POWER INPUT jack, along with a 12V POWER BUS connection. The front panel displays six 3.5mm RS-232 OUT ports, numbered 1 through 6. Port 1 also serves as an RS-232 IN/OUT (SINK) port, capable of receiving feedback from a connected sink device and passing data back to the source.

RS-232 Ports and Power
RS-232 Ports: All RS-232 ports connect using 3.5mm cables. The Model 1816 receives RS-232 commands through its input port and simultaneously echoes this data to its six output channels. Port 1 is unique as it can receive feedback from a connected sink device and relay this data back to the source.
Power: Connect the included 12V power supply to the jack labeled "Power Input". The "Power Bus" connection can be used to power additional Audio Authority compatible devices, provided the power supply's capacity is not exceeded, by using an 801-077 power extension cable.
Installation
- Attach the media player and the 1816 modules to a flat surface using the provided screws.
- Connect a 3.5mm cable from the 1816 RS-232 IN/OUT port to the source device, such as a BrightSign media player.
- Connect 3.5mm cables from the numbered (1-6) distribution ports on the 1816 to the RS-232 ports on the respective sink devices.
- Connect the power supply to an AC power source, and then plug it into the 1816 power port.
- For any questions not covered in this manual, please contact Audio Authority.
Example System Configuration
This section illustrates a typical setup. A BrightSign media player sends serial commands to multiple televisions (TVs), which act as sink devices. The Model 1816 distributor facilitates this communication. In this configuration, feedback can be received from the TV connected to port 1 and sent back to the BrightSign media player.
Diagram Description: The diagram shows a BrightSign media player connected via a 3.5mm RS-232 cable to the Model 1816 RS-232 Distributor. The Model 1816 has six output ports, each connected via a 3.5mm RS-232 cable to a separate TV device, labeled 1 through 6. The connection to port 1 is highlighted as being capable of bidirectional communication (feedback).
