Overview
This Tech Note describes how to update the PVS6 firmware when it is unable to update during commissioning, or when an update is needed due to a communication or connectivity issue, or to resolve an error.
Materials Required
- A Windows laptop with internet access
- An Ethernet cable
Prerequisite
Before you leave the office:
- On the laptop you will use at the site, open a Google Chrome browser, and access the following link: http://bit.ly/pvs6fwup
- Download the
pvs6_upgrade.zip
utility. - Proceed to the site.
Procedure
- At the site, use the Ethernet cable to connect your laptop to the black port inside the PVS6.
- Navigate to your downloads. For the
pvs6_upgrade.zip
file, select Show in folder. - Right-click the
pvs6_upgrade.zip
folder and select Extract All. - Extract the files to your desktop or a preferred destination.
- In the extracted
pvs6_upgrade
folder, double-click therunme
file. - If a firewall message appears, select both checkboxes and click Allow access. If that doesn't work, disable your laptop's firewall for the private network.
- If a security warning message appears, click Run. If a second security warning appears, click Open.
- The PVS UPGRADER opens. Ensure that the PVS6 Firmware Upgrade Utility version number displays 2019.4, and then click the Start button.
- The upgrader will identify the PVS6 to which your laptop is connected and download the latest PVS6 firmware update.
- The PVS6 will automatically reboot after the download is complete. The Resulting Status version numbers must match the expected values (e.g.,
2019.4, Build 4140
). - Click the Commission button.
You will be taken to the Management App to begin the commissioning process.
Note: If you are connected to the PVS6 by Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet, you must reconnect your laptop to the PVS6's Wi-Fi access point. It may take 2 minutes before the access point becomes available after rebooting.

- Set up communication
- Check firmware
- Discover devices
- Configure devices
- Verify device operation
- Commission site (requires SunPower monitoring credentials)
Select the site type: Residential or Commercial.
