Getting Started

Step 1: Open the Safe with the Key

You will need to open the door with the key to install batteries. Batteries are included and located inside the safe.

To open the door with the key, first remove the lock cover from the front of the faceplate using a thin flathead screwdriver.

Step 2: Insert and Turn Key

Insert the key and turn counterclockwise.

Step 3: Open the Door

Hold the key in the open position and turn the knob clockwise to open the door. Locate the batteries inside the safe and follow the next page for installation.

The key is provided in case you lose or forget your security code or the batteries run low. If you lose your key, a replacement can be purchased by referencing the serial number located under the removable lock cover. See the end of this instruction for details on replacement keys.

Battery Installation and Replacement

Step 1: Access Battery Compartment

To install or replace batteries, open the battery compartment on the back of the door by pushing the battery cover plate in the direction of the arrow. Install all new batteries as shown.

Do not mix old and new batteries. Do not mix alkaline, standard, or rechargeable batteries.

Step 2: Remove Battery Carriage

Remove the battery carriage from its housing.

Step 3: Install Batteries

Ensure the battery carriage is in the correct orientation. This safe uses 4 AA batteries, which typically last about 1 year under normal use. A low battery condition is indicated by a flashing yellow light on the faceplate when you start to enter your code.

Step 4: Replace Battery Cover

Replace the battery cover as shown. Position it in the middle of the battery opening, press down and back towards the closed position, and ensure it is secured before closing the safe.

Entering Your Security Code

Step 1: Prepare for Code Entry

After installing batteries, locate the reset button on the edge of the hinge side of the door. Press and release the red reset button; you will hear a beep.

The red reset button is located inside the door and is covered by a removable red cap. Remove the cap to access the button when setting your combination. Replace the cap securely afterward; failure to do so compromises safety and security.

DO NOT SHUT THE DOOR UNTIL YOU HAVE CONFIRMED YOUR NEW SECURITY CODE HAS BEEN ENTERED CORRECTLY.

Step 2: Enter and Confirm New Code

With the door open, enter your personal security code (3-8 digits long) and confirm it by pressing the green ✔️ key on the electronic keypad.

You have 3 seconds to press the green ✔️ key; otherwise, you must restart from Step 1. Successful entry is indicated by 2 beeps (if sound is on) and the green light flashing twice.

Before closing the door, enter your new security code and press the green ✔️ key again to ensure the lock releases the knob, allowing you to retract the locking bolts.

Future Operation

When opening the safe in the future, enter your set security code followed by the green ✔️ key and turn the knob.

Lockout Procedures:

  • If an incorrect security code is entered 3 times, the safe will beep 5 times (if sound is on) and the red light will flash 5 times, resulting in a 60-second lockout.
  • If an incorrect security code is entered a 4th time, the safe will beep 5 times (if sound is on) and the red light will flash 5 times, resulting in a 5-minute lockout.

Store your combination securely in a safe place, away from children, and not inside the safe.

Locking the Safe

To lock the safe, close the door and turn the knob counterclockwise to the 12:00 position.

Note on Locking: The locking mechanism is deactivated for approximately 3 to 6 seconds after the combination is entered. Wait a minimum of 6 seconds from entering the combination before locking. Always ensure the knob is turned completely to the left (counterclockwise) to the 12:00 position. If the knob is not fully turned during the locking process, the mechanism will not engage.

Selecting a Location and Securing the Safe

THE SAFE SHOULD ALWAYS BE KEPT OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.

The safe must be mounted to a wall stud and floor or a permanent shelf in an isolated, dry, and secure area for optimal safety and security.

Note on Locking: The safe must be in an upright position for the locking mechanism to function properly. Failure to mount the safe correctly will compromise its safety and security.

Mounting: Secure the safe to a wall stud using one of the holes in the back. Use a wall anchor on the other side. The safe should also be mounted to a permanent shelf or the floor. Use the provided hardware or consult your hardware retailer for appropriate fastening hardware for your mounting surfaces.

Step 1: Drill Mounting Holes

Slowly drill out all mounting holes located on the back and bottom of the safe as shown. DO NOT DRILL FROM A RANDOM LOCATION FROM INSIDE THE SAFE.

  • Back: Drill holes as indicated.
  • Bottom: Drill holes as indicated.

Step 2: Mark Mounting Locations

Position the safe in the desired location. Use a screw or pencil to mark the 4 mounting locations on the floor and wall. Ensure you mark and secure to one wall stud as shown. Remove the safe from the marked location.

Step 3: Prepare Mounting Holes

  • Securing to Wood: Using a 3/16" drill bit, drill a 2.5" hole in the marked location.
  • Securing to Masonry: Using a 3/8" drill bit, drill a 2.5" hole in the marked location.

Step 4: Secure the Safe

  • Securing to Wall and Wood Floor or Permanent Shelf: Position a plastic wall anchor in the wall before placing the safe. Use the plastic wall anchor to secure the back hole not centered on a wall stud. Position the safe in the mounting location. Insert lag screws through washers and the safe as shown in FIGURE 1. Tighten screws using a socket wrench.
  • Securing to Masonry Floor: Insert plastic wall anchors into pre-drilled holes in masonry as shown in FIGURE 2. Use a plastic wall anchor to secure the back hole not centered on a wall stud. Position the safe in the mounting location. Insert lag screws through washers and the safe as shown in FIGURE 1. Tighten lag screws into masonry anchors using a socket wrench.

Shelf Placement

For PFS-016-BG-E, PFS-019-BG-E:

The PFS-012-BG-E does not have an adjustable shelf; its shelf is removable.

Step 1: Install Shelf Clips

Determine the shelf location and place 4 shelf clips as shown. Push the top of the shelf clip into the shelf rail on the inside of the safe. Rotate the clip's bottom tab and push into the next hole in the shelf rail.

Step 2: Adjust Shelf Height

To adjust shelf height, remove and reposition shelf clips vertically on the shelf rail. Repeat for additional shelves as needed.

Turning the Keypad Sound ON/OFF

You can turn off the keypad "beep" sound by pressing the red ? key. Press the red ? key again to turn the "beep" sound back on.
