Introduction
This document provides operating and cleaning instructions for the WMF 1500S+ coffee machine.
Parts of the Coffee Machine
The WMF 1500S+ features several key components:
- 1. Bean hopper (up to 2), lockable: For storing coffee beans.
- 2. Powder hopper (optional): For ingredients like chocolate or topping, lockable.
- 3. Manual insert / tablet insert: For manual operation or cleaning tablets.
- 4. Touch display: Features beverage buttons and settings.
- 5. Combi spout: Integrated with a milk foamer.
- 6. Grounds container: Collects used coffee grounds.
- 7. SteamJet cup warmer: Warms cups using steam.
- 8. Removable drip tray: With a drip grid to catch spills.
- 9. Hot water spout / steam outlet (optional): For hot water or steam.
- 10. Water tank / descaling container (optional): For water supply or descaling solution.
- 11. Operating panel: Main control interface.
- 12. Side illumination: Aesthetic lighting.
- 13. ON/OFF switch: Located on the operating panel when open.
The "Ready to operate" display shows:
- 14. Menu pad: Opens the main menu.
- 15. Beverage buttons: For selecting various coffee drinks (e.g., Espresso, Café Crème, Milk coffee, Milk+Choc, Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato, Milk foam).
- 16. SteamJet pad: For using the cup warmer.
- 17. "Warm rinse" pad: For rinsing components.
- 18. Eco mode: Energy-saving setting.
The availability of pads and buttons on the display may vary based on machine settings and model. The functions shown are examples.
Cleaning Tablet Check Sheet
This section details the cleaning tablets required for the machine:
- RINZA (Milk): For milk system cleaning. Part No: 12-MKTAB12-40
- CAFIZA (Coffee): For coffee machine cleaning. Part No: 12-ESPTH12-100
Always check the tablet shape against the provided diagrams for verification.
Operating Information
Self Service Emergency Alert
ATTENTION: If red lights are flashing, please attend the machine.
To Resolve:
- Follow instructions displayed on the coffee machine screen to clear the message.
- If lights are flashing red and a ⚠️ symbol is displayed in the top right of the screen, press the symbol and follow on-screen instructions to clear the message.
Important Process: Removal of Grouts
- Remove and empty the grounds container into a bin. Wipe down the inside residue and dry it.
- Carefully replace the grounds container back into the machine.
- Confirm on the display that the container has been emptied.
NOTE: Do not bang the container on the rubbish bin and do not wash the container in a dish washer.
Milk Fridge Clean
- Wipe out the milk fridge regularly.
- Clean the milk container regularly (it can go in the dish washer).
- Regularly check the temperature of milk stored in the fridge; it should be 4°C.
- If frost builds up in the fridge, remove the milk and defrost the fridge.
- Finish the milk in the container as much as possible before refilling.
- Wipe any spills immediately.
Cleaning Procedures
Accessing the Cleaning Menu
A. Finding Menu:
- Gently double-tap the bottom right of the screen.
- Select the home icon (?) when it displays.
- Select the care options tab (⚙️).
B. Cleaning Options: The machine offers various cleaning programs:
- System cleaning
- Mixer rinsing
- Milk system cleaning
CleanLock: A 15-second countdown starts, and the screen is deactivated. The touch display can then be cleaned by wiping.
Instructions: Animated instructions are provided for weekly cleaning procedures, including the choc mixer and combi spout.

End of Day System Clean
Frequency: Perform at least once every 24 hours.
Duration: Approximately 15 minutes.
Important: Use only Urnex tablets for each stage.
- Step 1: Access the home menu, and select the Care option.
- Step 2: Select Cleaning programs, then select System cleaning.
- Step 3: Confirm if the machine needs to shut down after cleaning.
- Step 4: Answer "No" if leaving the machine on but closing for the day, or "Yes" if planning to make coffees after cleaning.
- Step 5: Empty and clean the coffee grounds container and drip tray.
- Step 6: Insert 1 RINZA tablet (Part No: 12-MKTAB12-40) into each blue container. Do not add water.
- Step 7: Plug the milk line into the blue WMF cleaning container. Place the cleaning box on the drip tray during the cleaning process. NOTE: Do not place the container in the fridge.
- Step 8: Insert CAFIZA tablet (Part No: 12-ESPTH12-100) into the top chute for brewer cleaning.
- Step 9: The system will progress with cleaning (up to 15 minutes max).
- Step 10: Unplug the milk line from the blue container and return it to the milk. Be careful with warm water inside.
- Step 11: Remove and rinse the cleaning container. Attention: it may be hot! Insert the milk container. Confirm if the milk container is inserted.
- Step 12: The machine will complete cleaning and flush lines, then set milk.
- Step 13: Once completed, the machine will return to the home screen. If continuing to use the machine, it will restart, perform a milk line purge, and be ready for service. You may need to activate several prompts.
Milk System Exchange & Clean
Frequency: Perform at the end of the week.
Duration: Approximately 15 minutes.
Important: Use only WMF certified milk cleaning tablets.
- Step 1: Disconnect the milk line from the foamer.
- Step 2: Remove the combi spout & remove the milk hose.
- Step 3: Separate the foamer into separate pieces ready for soaking.
- Step 4: Re-mount the spare clean foamer, choc hose & milk line.
- Step 5: Fill a container with warm water and add one RINZA tablet (Part No: 12-MKTAB12-40). Place the dirty foamer & milk line in the solution and soak for 5 hours.
- Step 6: After soaking, rinse all pieces under tap water and dry thoroughly.
- Step 7: Store the cleaned components in a tub with a lid to avoid contamination, ready for the next weekly exchange.
Refill Coffee Hoppers
When to Perform: Prompted by the machine.
Duration: Approximately 2-3 minutes.
Important: During refill, be careful that no foreign debris falls into the hopper.
Note: Fill hoppers with fresh coffee to just below the lid line. The hoppers empty at the same rate, so ensure all hoppers are filled to the same level.
- Step 1: If the machine runs out of coffee, it will prompt the operator to refill the hopper.
- Step 2: Remove the lid and pour coffee into the empty hopper.
- Step 3: Once the hopper is topped up, tap the green tick (✔️) to continue.
Chocolate Whipper/Mixer Cleaning
Frequency: Perform at the end of the week.
Duration: Approximately 10 minutes.
Important: Use only WMF certified milk cleaning tablets.
- Step 1: Open the display panel.
- Step 2: Remove the choc hose from the back of the foamer and slide the spring off.
- Step 3: Remove the chocolate mixing bowl.
- Step 4: Separate the top of the bowl and remove the hose.
- Step 5: Disassemble all parts.
- Step 6: Wash the unit in water and dry thoroughly.
- Step 7: Insert the mixer back into the machine and reattach the choc hose & slide the spring on.
- Step 8: Close the display panel.
Note: Please ensure the wiper disc is inserted the correct way.
Hopper Cleaning
Frequency: Perform at the end of the month.
Duration: Approximately 15 minutes.
Important: Ensure hoppers are dry before re-fitting.
- Step 1: Open the display panel.
- Step 2: Swing the green handle from right to left to release all hoppers.
- Step 3: Gently lift the hoppers, empty the contents into a clean container.
- Step 4: Hand wash the hoppers and dry them thoroughly.
- Step 5: Refill the hopper with product and place it onto the machine.
- Step 6: Swing the green handle from left to right to re-lock the hoppers.
- Step 7: Close the display panel.
Important: Chocolate Hopper Reassembly: After drying the hopper, ensure it is reassembled correctly for proper functioning. Use the exploded diagram as a guide, making sure the half-moon opening is at the top before re-inserting.
