WARNING: ALWAYS USE SAFETY GLASSES. Everyday eyeglasses are NOT safety glasses. Use face or dust mask if cutting operation is dusty. Always wear certified safety equipment:

WARNING: Some dust created by power tools contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm (e.g., lead, crystalline silica, arsenic, chromium). To reduce exposure: work in a well-ventilated area and use approved safety equipment (e.g., dust masks). Avoid prolonged contact with dust; wear protective clothing and wash exposed areas with soap and water.

Introduction to Charger

The DC9000-XE charger is designed to charge DEWALT battery packs in approximately 1 hour. It is easy to operate: place the battery pack into a plugged-in charger, and it will automatically charge.

Important Safety Instruction for Battery Packs

The RBRCTM Seal indicates that costs to recycle the battery have been paid by DEWALT. Help protect the environment by returning spent lithium ion batteries to an authorized DEWALT service center or retailer for recycling.

Storage Recommendations

Charger

Your battery pack requires a 1-hour DEWALT charger. Read all safety instructions before using.

Charging Procedure

  1. Plug the charger into an appropriate outlet before inserting the battery pack.
  2. Insert the battery pack into the charger. A three-light fuel gauge indicates the state of charge.
  3. Completion of charge is indicated by three red lights remaining ON continuously.

Charger Diagnostics

Problems are indicated by three red lights flashing together in different patterns:

Leaving the Battery in the Charger

The charger will keep the battery pack fresh and fully charged. It features an automatic tune-up mode to balance individual cells. Tune up weekly or when performance decreases. To use, place the battery pack in the charger and leave for at least 8 hours.

Important Charging Notes

  1. Charge when air temperature is between 18°-24°C (65°F - 75°F). Do not charge below +4.5°C (+40°F) or above +40.5°C (+105°F) to prevent battery damage.
  2. Charger and battery pack may become warm; this is normal.
  3. If the battery pack does not charge properly: check receptacle current, check light switch connection, or move charger/pack to a location with optimal temperature (18°-24°C). If problems persist, take tool, battery pack, and charger to a service center.
  4. Recharge when the battery fails to produce sufficient power. Do not continue to use under these conditions. Partially used packs can be charged anytime.
  5. Keep foreign materials away from charger cavities. Unplug before cleaning.
  6. Do not freeze or immerse charger in water.

Motor

Voltage decrease of more than 10% causes loss of power and overheating. If the tool does not operate, check your battery pack.

Operation

Installing and Removing the Battery Pack (Fig. 1, 2)

NOTE: Ensure battery pack is fully charged.

To install: Align the base of the battery pack with the rails inside the tool handle and slide firmly until it snaps into place.

To remove: Press the release button (A) and pull the battery pack out.

[Description of Figure 1: DEWALT impact wrench handle with battery release button labeled 'A'.]

[Description of Figure 2: DEWALT charger with battery pack being inserted.]

Switch (Fig. 3)

Pressing the bottom part of the rocker switch (B) runs the tool in the forward direction (right-hand thread). Pressing the top of the switch reverses motor direction, allowing "rocking" fasteners to break them loose.

[Description of Figure 3: DEWALT impact wrench showing the rocker switch labeled 'B'.]

Anvil With Detent Pin (Fig. 4)

Place the switch in the locked off (center) position or remove the battery pack before changing accessories.

To install a socket: Align the hole in the socket with the detent pin (C) on the anvil (D). Press the socket on until the detent pin engages. Depression of the detent pin may be necessary.

To remove a socket: Depress the detent pin through the hole using a small pointed object and pull the socket off.

CAUTION: Use only impact sockets. Non-impact sockets may break.

[Description of Figure 4: Close-up of the impact wrench anvil showing the detent pin labeled 'C' and the anvil labeled 'D'.]

Usage

CAUTION: Ensure fastener and/or system will withstand the tool's torque. Excessive torque may cause breakage.

  1. Place the socket on the fastener head. Keep the tool pointed straight at the fastener.
  2. Press rocker switch to start operation. Always check torque with a torque wrench. Fastening torque is affected by:
    • Voltage (low voltage reduces torque)
    • Socket size (incorrect size reduces torque)
    • Bolt size, length, grade, and torque coefficient
    • Bolt condition (rust or debris affects torque)
    • Material type and surface finish
    • Fastening time (longer time increases torque, potentially overstressing fasteners)

Maintenance

Cleaning

WARNING: Blow dirt and dust out of air vents with clean, dry air weekly. Wear ANSI Z87.1 approved eye protection. Clean exterior plastic parts with a damp cloth and mild detergent. NEVER use solvents.

Charger Cleaning Instructions

WARNING: Disconnect charger from AC outlet before cleaning. Use a cloth or soft non-metallic brush. Do not use water or cleaning solutions.
