Introduction to Charger
The DC9000-XE charger is designed to charge DEWALT battery packs in approximately 1 hour. It is easy to operate: place the battery pack into a plugged-in charger, and it will automatically charge.
Important Safety Instruction for Battery Packs
- Read this manual and original tool manuals before using the charger.
- Do not incinerate battery packs, even if damaged. They can explode.
- Do not charge or use battery in explosive atmospheres.
- If battery contents contact skin, wash with soap and water. If in eyes, rinse with water for 15 minutes. Seek medical attention if needed.
- Contents of opened battery cells may cause respiratory irritation. Provide fresh air.
- WARNING: Burn hazard. Battery liquid may be flammable.
- Charge battery packs only in DEWALT chargers.
- Do not splash or immerse in water or other liquids.
- Do not store or use the tool and battery pack in locations where temperature exceeds 40°C (105°F).
- WARNING: Never attempt to open the battery pack. If cracked or damaged, return for recycling.
- WARNING: Fire hazard. Do not store or carry battery so that metal objects can contact exposed battery terminals.
The RBRCTM Seal indicates that costs to recycle the battery have been paid by DEWALT. Help protect the environment by returning spent lithium ion batteries to an authorized DEWALT service center or retailer for recycling.
Storage Recommendations
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Long-term storage (up to 5 years or more) is acceptable under proper conditions.
Charger
Your battery pack requires a 1-hour DEWALT charger. Read all safety instructions before using.
Charging Procedure
- Plug the charger into an appropriate outlet before inserting the battery pack.
- Insert the battery pack into the charger. A three-light fuel gauge indicates the state of charge.
- Completion of charge is indicated by three red lights remaining ON continuously.
Charger Diagnostics
Problems are indicated by three red lights flashing together in different patterns:
- PROBLEM POWERLINE: Three red lights flash with two fast blinks followed by a pause (power source out of limits).
- BAD BATTERY: Three red lights flash with rapid blinking (weak or damaged battery).
- BAD CHARGER: Three red lights flash with one fast blink followed by a long blink (charger not functioning).
Leaving the Battery in the Charger
The charger will keep the battery pack fresh and fully charged. It features an automatic tune-up mode to balance individual cells. Tune up weekly or when performance decreases. To use, place the battery pack in the charger and leave for at least 8 hours.
Important Charging Notes
- Charge when air temperature is between 18°-24°C (65°F - 75°F). Do not charge below +4.5°C (+40°F) or above +40.5°C (+105°F) to prevent battery damage.
- Charger and battery pack may become warm; this is normal.
- If the battery pack does not charge properly: check receptacle current, check light switch connection, or move charger/pack to a location with optimal temperature (18°-24°C). If problems persist, take tool, battery pack, and charger to a service center.
- Recharge when the battery fails to produce sufficient power. Do not continue to use under these conditions. Partially used packs can be charged anytime.
- Keep foreign materials away from charger cavities. Unplug before cleaning.
- Do not freeze or immerse charger in water.
Motor
Voltage decrease of more than 10% causes loss of power and overheating. If the tool does not operate, check your battery pack.
Operation
Installing and Removing the Battery Pack (Fig. 1, 2)
NOTE: Ensure battery pack is fully charged.
To install: Align the base of the battery pack with the rails inside the tool handle and slide firmly until it snaps into place.

Usage
CAUTION: Ensure fastener and/or system will withstand the tool's torque. Excessive torque may cause breakage.
- Place the socket on the fastener head. Keep the tool pointed straight at the fastener.
- Press rocker switch to start operation. Always check torque with a torque wrench. Fastening torque is affected by:
- Voltage (low voltage reduces torque)
- Socket size (incorrect size reduces torque)
- Bolt size, length, grade, and torque coefficient
- Bolt condition (rust or debris affects torque)
- Material type and surface finish
- Fastening time (longer time increases torque, potentially overstressing fasteners)
