Wiring Examples:
Modulating Actuator Wiring: Shows connections for SN, SP, Y, X, COM, AC 24V (50/60Hz), and signal inputs like 0(2)-10VDC, 0(4)-20mA, DC 0-10V.
Floating Point Actuator Wiring: Shows connections for SN, SP, Y, X, COM, AC 24V (50/60Hz), and DC 0(2)-10V.
Installation
Safety Notes:
- To avoid personal injury and damage to the device or other property, read and follow these instructions carefully.
- Assembly, start-up, and maintenance work must be performed by qualified and authorized personnel.
- Comply with the instructions of the system manufacturer or system operator.
- Do not remove the cover before the power supply is fully switched off.
Mounting Position:
The actuator should be mounted with the valve stem in either a horizontal position or pointing upwards.
Wiring:
Connect AC 24V via Class 2 (North America) or Safety Extra-Low Voltage (SELV) (Europe). Failure to comply can lead to equipment damage or personal injury. Switch off power before wiring the actuator!
Make all wiring connections in accordance with local, national, or regional regulations. For applications requiring conduit, a field-supplied 1/2" trade size electrician's fitting and lock nut can be mounted in the actuator enclosure. Use flexible metallic tubing or its equivalent with the field-supplied fitting. Insert wiring material through the removable plug or conduit fitting, and connect to the terminal block using the applicable wiring diagram.
Installation Steps:
SD Actuator Installation (Loss of Power):
- Step 1: Actuator and valve shown, indicating connection.
- Step 2: Actuator being attached to the valve with a directional arrow.
- Step 3: Actuator tightened onto the valve, with torque specification 'Max. 6 Nm/53 in-lb for AB-QM valves'.
- Step 4: Actuator wiring connection shown.
- Step 5: Final mounted actuator with wiring connected, indicating a turning motion.
SU Actuator Installation (Loss of Power):
- Step 1: Actuator and valve shown, indicating connection.
- Step 2: Actuator being attached to the valve with a directional arrow.
- Step 3: Actuator tightened onto the valve, with torque specification 'Max. 6 Nm/53 in-lb for AB-QM valves'.
- Step 4: Actuator wiring connection shown.
- Step 5: Final mounted actuator with wiring connected, indicating a turning motion.
General Installation Notes:
Depending on the actuator version (SU/SD), a washer and adapter may be required. For SD, use Washer (003Z0257). For SU, use Adapter (003Z3960) and Washer (003Z0257). Hand-tighten the adapter to the valve neck. The actuator should be in the full up position (factory setting). If not, refer to manual override instructions. The actuator is fixed to the valve body or adapter by a union nut, requiring an adjustable wrench for tightening.
DIP Switch Settings
Factory Settings: All switches are on OFF position, except SW7 which is in ON position.
Note: All combinations of DIP switches are allowed. Functions are added consecutively. Switch No. 6 (Proportional/3 point) overrides other functions, setting the actuator as a simple 3-point actuator.
DIP Switch Functions:
- SW1: VDC / mA - Input Signal Type Selector: OFF = Voltage input, ON = Current input.
- SW2: 0/2 - Input Signal Range Selector: OFF = 2-10 V (voltage) or 4-20 mA (current), ON = 0-10 V (voltage) or 0-20 mA (current).
- SW3: D/I - Direct or Inverse Acting Selector: OFF = Direct acting (stem retracts as voltage increases), ON = Inverse acting (stem extends as voltage increases).
- SW4: ---/Seq - Normal or Sequential Mode Selector: OFF = Normal operation (0(2)-10V or 0(4)-20mA range), ON = Sequential mode (range dependent on SW4 position).
- SW5: 0-5 V/5-10 V - Input Signal Range in Sequential Mode: OFF = 0(2)-5(6) V or 0(4)-10(12) mA, ON = 5(6)-10 V or 10(12)-20 mA.
- SW6: Proportional/Floating Point: ON = Floating point operation (connect power to SN and SP, use port 1 or 3 for 24 VAC signal for rising/lowering, X for return signal). OFF = Modulating input signal. Note: If 3-point function is selected, the actuator ignores control signal on port Y and only moves with power on ports 1 or 3.
- SW7: LIN/LOG - Linear or Equal Percentage Flow Through Valve Selector: ON = Linear flow (recommended), OFF = Equal percentage flow.
- SW8: Stem Travel Selection: ON = 4.5mm stem travel for valve bodies 1/2" to 1-1/4" HF. OFF = 2.5mm stem travel for valve body 1/2" Low Flow.
- SW9: Reset: Toggling this switch causes the actuator to go through an auto-calibration cycle.
