Connecting the Hardware
If you do not need the phone service, you can skip Step 1 and directly connect the modem router to the phone jack using a phone cable. Then, proceed with Steps 3 and 4 to complete the hardware connection.
Step 1: Connect the ADSL splitter to the phone jack.
Step 2: Connect the modem router to the ADSL splitter using a phone cable. An optional connection to the phone is also shown.
Step 3: Connect the power adapter to the modem router and turn it on.
Step 4: Verify that the hardware connection is correct by checking the following LED indicators on the modem router:
- Power LED: Should be solid ON.
- ADSL LED: Should be solid ON. (Note: This LED may take 1 to 2 minutes to stabilize after powering on.)
- Wireless LED: Should be solid ON or flashing. (Note: If the Wireless LED is off, press the WiFi button on the rear panel for 2 seconds to activate it.)
Configuring the Modem Router
1. Connecting your computer to the modem router
Wired Connection
Connect your computer to one of the LAN ports (LAN1, LAN2, LAN3, or LAN4) on the modem router using an Ethernet cable. The corresponding LAN LED on the modem router should light up.
Wireless Connection
a. Locate the SSID (network name) and Wireless Password printed on the product label at the bottom of your modem router.
b. On your computer or smart device, click the network icon or go to Wi-Fi settings. Select the SSID found on the product label to join the network.
2. Configuring the modem router via a web browser
Accessing the Web Interface
Enter http://tplinkmodem.net
or 192.168.1.1
into the address bar of your web browser. Use admin
for both the username and password, then click the Login button. If the login window does not appear, please refer to the FAQ section (Q1).
Quick Start Setup
A Quick Start window will typically appear automatically upon the first login. If not, select 'Quick Start' from the menu. Click 'NEXT' to proceed.
Time Zone: Select your Time Zone and click 'NEXT'.
Internet Settings: Complete the Internet Settings with the information provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). The example shown uses PPPoE/PPPoA. Key settings include ISP Connection Type, Username, Password, VPI, and VCI. Click 'NEXT' after entering the details. (Note: Consult your ISP if you are unsure about these settings.)
WLAN Settings: Verify or change the wireless network settings (SSID and security key). You can personalize your SSID and password. Click 'NEXT' to continue. You will need to reconnect to the network using the new credentials.
Save Configuration: Click 'SAVE' to complete the configuration process.

- Keep the device away from water, fire, humidity, or hot environments.
- Do not attempt to disassemble, repair, or modify the device. Contact TP-Link for service.

Q1. What can I do if the login page does not appear?
- Reboot your modem router and try again.

- If you cannot log in, ensure your computer is set to obtain an IP address automatically.
- Consult your ISP to confirm your internet settings are correct.
- Restore the modem router to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

Q3. How do I restore the modem router to its factory default settings?
- With the modem router powered on, press and hold the WPS/RESET button on the rear panel for at least 8 seconds until LEDs turn off, then release.
- Log in to the web management page, navigate to Maintenance > SysRestart, select 'Factory Default Settings', and click 'RESTART'. Wait for the process to complete.
Q4. What can I do if I forget my password?
Web management page password: Reset the modem router using the method in FAQ Q3. The default login credentials are 'admin' for both username and password.
Wireless network password: The default Wireless Password/PIN is printed on the product label. If it was changed, log in to the web management page and go to Interface Setup > Wireless to retrieve or reset it.
Q5. What can I do if the ADSL LED does not turn solid on?
- Check all cable connections, including telephone lines and the power adapter.
- Manually change DSL settings: Log in to the web management page, go to Advanced Setup > ADSL, and try setting ADSL Mode to 'G.DMT' or 'ADSL2'. Save the changes.
- Restore the modem router to factory default settings.
- Remove the ADSL splitter and connect the modem router directly to the phone jack, then reconfigure.
- Contact your ISP to verify the status of your ADSL line.
