This guide provides instructions for setting up your TP-LINK TD-W8961ND Wireless Modem Router. Ensure all package contents are present before proceeding.
The modem package should contain the following items:
The back panel of the TP-LINK TD-W8961ND modem features several ports and buttons. From left to right, these typically include:
DO NOT Reset: Your modem has been pre-programmed. TP-LINK recommends contacting their support if you have any questions before performing a factory reset. For support, visit TP-LINK Support.
Before connecting any cables, ensure the power supply is cut off and your hands are dry. Follow these steps to install your modem:
Use the ADSL Splitter: The splitter has three ports:
Connect Telephone Cable: Plug one end of the telephone (RJ11) cable into your modem's ADSL port and the other end into the MODEM port of the ADSL splitter.
Connect Ethernet Cable: Connect one end of a network (RJ45) cable to your computer's Ethernet port and the other end to an Ethernet port on the modem.
Power On: Power on your computers and the modem.
Initialization: Wait for approximately 60 seconds until the modem has fully initialized.
Internet Surfing: Open a web browser and begin using the internet.
Wireless Connection: To use a wireless connection, select the Network Name (SSID) from your wireless device and enter the Wireless Key. Both the Network Name and Wireless Key are typically labeled on the bottom of your modem.

Note: Your modem is pre-programmed. You can normally skip these sections. They are provided for reference if manual configuration is needed.
Access Web Management Interface: Start your web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox) and type the IP address 192.168.1.1
into the URL field.
Login: In the login window, enter the default User Name admin
and the default Password admin
(both in lower case), then click OK
.

Login: Follow the steps in the "Setup Internet Connection" section (steps 1 & 2) to log in to your modem's web interface.

Important: Your modem has been pre-programmed. Normally, you DO NOT need to reset your modem. Only perform this action if you fully understand the implications of the above sections and need to restore factory defaults. For assistance, contact TP-LINK Support.
To reset your modem to the factory default state, press and hold the Reset button for 5 seconds.
