Polar Pattern Diagram
The polar pattern diagram shows a polar plot illustrating the microphone's sensitivity at different angles around the capsule, indicating a cardioid (uni-directional) pickup pattern at 1kHz.
Frequency Response Curve
The frequency response curve is a graph plotting the microphone's output level in dB (y-axis) against frequency in Hz (x-axis), illustrating its sensitivity across the audible frequency range from 20Hz to 20kHz.
Operating Instructions
- Attach the shock mount to a microphone stand or boom arm, securing it with the locking knob. Position the shock mount with the top facing up and the bottom nut down to prevent the microphone from falling.
- Identify the front of the microphone, marked with "SM20" and a circular polar pattern symbol (○). Align this front side with the sound source, place the microphone into the shock mount, and securely tighten the bottom nut.
- Install the included pop filter onto the shock mount. Note: The pop filter and windscreen are interchangeable; use only one at a time. The pop filter maintains sound fidelity, while the windscreen offers better saliva protection but may slightly affect microphone aesthetics and sound quality.
- Connect the microphone's output to an audio device (e.g., audio interface, mixer, power amplifier) that provides 48V phantom power, using the included XLR cable. If the audio device does not have phantom power, a separate 48V phantom power supply must be purchased. Note: Required phantom power specifications: DC 48V ±4V / 2.8mA ±20%.
- Secure the connecting cable to the stand or boom arm, leaving a loop near the microphone for shock isolation.
- When operating, first set the audio device's volume low, then turn on the phantom power. Gradually increase the volume to a suitable level to avoid damaging speakers. Maintain a distance between the microphone and speakers, and avoid pointing them directly at each other to prevent feedback.
- The microphone output uses a three-pin XLRM connector. The pin configuration is as follows: Pin 1 (ground), Pin 2 (positive), Pin 3 (negative).
Connection Diagrams
1. For devices with 48V supply:
This diagram illustrates connecting the microphone to a PC via a USB data cable to an audio interface. The microphone connects to the audio interface using a male/female XLR cable.
2. For devices without 48V supply:
This diagram shows connecting the microphone to a 48V phantom power supply via a male/female XLR cable. The phantom power supply is then connected to an audio interface via a male/female XLR cable. The audio interface is connected to a PC.
