WARNING
Incorrect connections may result in PTC failure or improper operation. Inspect wiring and ensure connections are correct before applying power. Do not route any wiring over circuit boards. Maintain at least 25.4mm (1") separation.
WARNING
High voltage. Disconnect AC power and telephone lines prior to servicing.
System Wiring Overview
The wiring diagram illustrates connections for the DSC HS2016, HS2032, HS2064, and HS2128 alarm control panels.
Power Supply
A 16.5VAC/40VA Class 2 Transformer (Model DSC PTD1640U) connects to the 120VAC/60Hz primary. Note: Do not connect the transformer to a receptacle controlled by a switch.
Battery Backup
A 12V 7Ah or 12V 4.0Ah/7Ah battery connects to the BAT+ and BAT- terminals. The maximum battery charge current is 400mA. For 4-hour standby, a minimum 4Ah battery is required (Max. Aux current must not exceed 700mA). For 24-hour standby, a 14Ah battery is required (Max. Aux current must not exceed 470mA). Recommended batteries: DSC BD4-12 or DSC BD7-12.
Auxiliary Power and Keybus
AUX Wiring: Use No. 14-22 AWG conductor. AUX+ and Keybus (RED) are internally connected. The total current draw from keypads, PGM Outputs, and AUX circuits must not exceed 700mA. The CORBUS connects to additional keypads and expansion modules.
PGM Connections
PGM outputs have specific current limits: PGM1 (50mA max), PGM2 (300mA max), PGM3 (50mA max), PGM4 (50mA max).
Bell/Siren Output
Rated for 700mA (max). Observe polarity.
Ground Connection
A ground wire from the building electrical installation connects to the cabinet via a nut, lock washer, and star washer to ensure a good connection.
Telephone Connection
An RJ-31X telephone plug (26 AWG) is used.
Detector Wiring
2-Wire Smoke Detectors
- Compatibility Identifier: HS2-1
- Maximum Operating Voltage: 13.8V
- Maximum Circuit Resistance: 240 ohm (total)
- Maximum Number of Detectors: 18
- Model examples: FSA-210B Series (FS200 compatibility ID).
- Requires an End-of-Line Resistor (EOLR-3, 2200 ohm, 5%).
Note: Do not combine different models on the same circuit as operation may be impaired. Refer to the FSA-210 Installation Manual for more details.
4-Wire Smoke Detectors
- Smoke detector must be latching type (e.g., PG4926 Series).
- To reset smoke detector, enter [*][7][2].
- Connections include a power loop (12 VDC, 35mA max) and a supervisory relay.
- Requires an End-of-Line Resistor (EOLR-2, 2200 ohm, 5%).
Note: Refer to Installation Manual & Smoke Detector Instruction Sheet when locating detectors.
Typical Zone Circuits
The diagram shows four typical zone circuit configurations using End-of-Line Resistors (5600 ohm):
- Normally Closed contact with End-of-Line Resistor.
- Normally Open contact with End-of-Line Resistor.
- One Normally Open contact and one Normally Closed contact with End-of-Line Resistor.
- Two Normally Open contacts and two Normally Closed contacts with End-of-Line Resistor.
General Notes and Compliance
Power Limited Wiring: All wiring is power limited/Class II power limited, except for battery leads. Maintain at least 6.4mm (1/4") separation between power-limited and non-power-limited wiring and connections.
Installation Compliance: This equipment should be installed in accordance with the National Fire Code ANSI/NFPA 72 (National Fire Protection Association). For compliance with UL-985, at least one smoke detector is required.
FCC Compliance: This device complies with Parts 15 and 68 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the following 2 conditions: [1] this device may not cause harmful interference and [2] this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
