Westermo Viper-20A Series Managed Gbps Routing Switch
The Viper-20A series comprises Managed Routing Switches with 20 ports, optimized for the requirements of railway vehicles. It offers Gbps ports for devices with high bandwidth needs, such as Access Points and NVRs (Network Video Recorders).
Thanks to its construction, the Viper-20A series is ideal for the harsh environmental conditions in trains, where the switch is constantly exposed to vibrations, extreme temperatures, humidity, and a demanding electrical environment.
A GORE-TEX® membrane protects against internal condensation. Threads in the housing provide additional vibration resistance. The high isolation between all interfaces allows direct connection to the vehicle's auxiliary power supply and protects against overvoltage and flashover. IP67 protection prevents the ingress of water and dust. An all-around optimized design ensures an extremely compact housing combined with a very high MTBF for easy integration and low lifecycle costs.
Thorough type testing by independent ISO/IEC 17025 test institutes and the ILAC MRA laboratory confirm compliance with a variety of standards such as EN50155. Westermo products achieve the highest class in all aspects. In modern Westermo production facilities, the quality of each device is ensured, among other things, by burn-in tests with temperature cycles.
The WeOS operating system offers a comprehensive range of IP network functions for reliable and flexible networks, such as the FRNT ring protocol with extremely fast failover. The powerful Layer 3 routing function is ideal for segmenting networks in complex applications. The optional backup device is no less robust than the Viper and offers easy configuration, updating, and backup.
As the Viper-20A series meets the requirements for railway vehicles, the device is also suitable for use in other applications under severe operating conditions and in harsh environments, such as in mining.

WeOS 4: Specification
The WeOS operating system was developed by Westermo for the current and future range of Ethernet hardware products. This Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching solution enables Westermo to create complex multimedia ring networks and routing solutions. WeOS not only provides solutions for many demanding industrial network problems but also contributes to investment protection by ensuring the future availability of fully compatible solutions. WeOS is the core of our latest range of Ethernet hardware products, with which complex multimedia ring networks and routing solutions can be realized.
Westermo has many years of experience in developing products for industrial applications. The focus of all Westermo network solutions is the need for ease of use. By standardizing on a single operating system for all Westermo Ethernet products, the installation, operation, and maintenance of individual devices and complete networks are simplified. Once a user is familiar with a Westermo product, they can apply this knowledge to all our other devices. A web screen simplifies the configuration of many functions, while a command-line interface (CLI) allows for fine-tuning.
WeOS has unique features that enable Westermo's solutions to integrate serial devices easily. WeOS enables Westermo to offer a range of unique network security solutions with elements such as a Stateful Inspection Firewall and the IEEE 802.1X standard. Secure remote access can be achieved with encrypted VPN tunnels. Setting up these functions is described in the WeOS Management Guide, 6101-3201.
