ActronAir CO2 Sensor Installation and Commissioning Guide

Introduction

Congratulations on your purchase of an ActronAir CO2 sensor. This sensor is designed to control the amount of fresh air introduced into compatible ActronAir air conditioning units with outside air dampers for Demand Control Ventilation (DCV). DCV modulates outdoor airflow based on space occupancy, potentially reducing energy consumption and operating costs.

Important Note: CO2-based DCV should not be applied in zones with indoor CO2 sources other than occupants. Failure to follow installation procedures may result in personal injury, damage to the air conditioner or sensor, or void the warranty.

Installation

02.01. Dimensions

The ActronAir CO2 sensor (CCO2-S and CCO2-MOD) has specific dimensions detailed in the diagrams. The CCO2-S measures 114.30mm in height and 71.12mm in width. The CCO2-MOD also has similar dimensions. Mounting involves a rear plate and cover, with screw and tab mechanisms for secure attachment.

CCO2-S Dimensions: Height: 114.30mm, Width: 71.12mm. Mounting holes are indicated.

CCO2-MOD Dimensions: Similar to CCO2-S, with specific mounting hole details provided.

02.02. Cable Specifications and Mounting Location

The recommended cable is 0.50mm² shielded data cable. The sensor should be mounted 1.0 to 1.8 meters above the floor, away from direct airflow from diffusers, doorways, and other external influences to ensure accurate CO2 concentration readings.

  1. Remove the bottom screw.
  2. Press tabs and lift the cover.
  3. Mount the rear plate in the chosen location.
  4. Pull wires through the base hole and make connections, ensuring cable entry gaps are sealed.
  5. Secure the cover.

02.03. DIP Switch Settings

DIP switches are used to configure the CO2 sensor's output and other settings. Access is gained by removing the sensor cover.

02.03.01. Tri-Capacity and Hercules

For Tri-Capacity and Hercules models, DIP switch settings determine the output type (Voltage or Current) and range. Switch Position 1 controls CO2 output selection (Voltage/Current). Switch Position 2 is not used and should be OFF. Switch Positions 3 and 4 configure the output range (e.g., 0-10V, 4-20mA).

Example Settings:

02.03.02. Variable Capacity Commercial and Genesis (PKV/CRV and PRV/CRV)

The CCO2-MOD features two DIP switches: SW2 (8-position) for RS-485 address configuration and SW1 (4-position) for hardware/software options. The factory default RS-485 address is 127. SW1 settings, including Auto Serial Configuration (AUT), are used for communication protocols.

SW2 RS-485 Address: To set the MAC address to 127, all DIP switches (SW2) must be ON, except for position 1. The address is determined by summing the values of the ON switches (e.g., 64+32+16+8+4+2+1 = 127).

SW1 Settings: Positions 1 and 2 are used for communication with the ActronAir Board. Position 1 and 2 ON is the default. Auto Serial Configuration (AUT) can be enabled (ON) or disabled (OFF).

Wiring Diagrams

Detailed wiring diagrams are provided for different ActronAir models:

Controller Setup

The optional CO2 sensor function requires enabling and configuration. For third-party control, contact the respective supplier.

03.01. CO2 Sensor Setup

The CO2 levels and corresponding damper positions are adjusted according to application requirements. The setup involves configuring the unit's control mode and input type.

03.01.01. Tri-Capacity and Hercules

The unit control mode should be set to INTERNAL SENSOR. The input type is typically 4-20mA for CM100 controllers or 0-5V for uPC controllers. The sensor connects to specific ports (e.g., Hercules - U12, Tri-Capacity - Multi Input 1 or 2).

Compatibility Notes:

Configuration Steps (Tri-Capacity Example):

  1. Navigate to Service page Gfc8 to assign the CO2 sensor to Multi Input 2.
  2. Set Multi Input 2 to YES and select the appropriate probe type (4-20mA for CM100, 0-5V for uPC). Ensure Multi Input 1 configuration is not changed.
  3. Navigate to Economy Setting page Gfd1.
  4. Change 'Enable CO2' to YES to activate the sensor.
  5. Adjust CO2 levels and damper positions as per application requirements and relevant standards. The diagram shows damper position relative to CO2 levels (Min ppm to Max ppm).

03.01.02. Variable Capacity Commercial and Genesis (PKV/CRV and PRV/CRV)

The CO2 sensor is enabled using an RJ485 connector via the Outdoor Board, Bluetooth Commissioning Tool, or Unit Installation Guide. Refer to the unit's Installation and Commissioning Guide for detailed instructions on enabling the CO2 sensor using NEO.

03.02. Minimum Outside Air Setup (Demand Controlled Ventilation)

03.02.01. Tri-Capacity and Hercules

Select service page Gfc31 to check the CO2 sensor operating range, enable/disable fault alarms, and set alarm levels. If the sensor is not operating or is out of range, the outside air operates at the minimum setting.

Gfc31 Settings:

03.02.02. Variable Capacity Commercial and Genesis (PKV/CRV and PRV/CRV)

Refer to the Variable Commercial Capacity Installation and Commissioning Guide for CO2 setting enablement. Menus for setting minimum/maximum damper positions and CO2 scale include oAdC, oAdo, ECEO, ECOE, EHCO, EHCS, CCE, Etd, EoLt, EoHt, EoLd, EoHd, EoHn, EodP, EoHE, EEd, ELPL, EHPL, ELdP, EHdP.

CO2 Status

03.03.01. Tri-Capacity and Hercules

To view current CO2 concentration levels, go to Status Screen Page E1. The 'CO2 Sensor' field displays the concentration. Screenshots for Tri-Capacity and Hercules are provided, showing example readings.

03.03.02. Variable Capacity Commercial and Genesis (PKV/CRV and PRV/CRV)

CO2 setup can be done via the outdoor board. Refer to section 03.02.02 for required parameters.
