SMC IDFA E/F Series Refrigerated Air Dryers
For use in Europe, Asia and Oceania
Product Overview
The SMC IDFA E/F Series offers a range of refrigerated air dryers designed to remove moisture from compressed air, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of pneumatic equipment. These dryers are available for single-phase and three-phase power supplies, catering to various industrial needs. The IDFA E Series uses R134a refrigerant, while the IDFA F Series utilizes R407C. Both series feature improved corrosion resistance with stainless steel heat exchangers in many models.
Please note: The IDFA22E to 75E series are scheduled to be discontinued as of the end of May 2022.

Model Selection
To select the correct air dryer, determine the required corrected air flow capacity based on operating conditions. The process involves reading correction factors (A, B, C, D) from tables, calculating the corrected air flow capacity using the formula: Corrected Air Flow Capacity = Air Consumption / (Correction Factor A x B x C), and then selecting a model whose air flow capacity meets or exceeds this value.
Example: If air consumption is 31 m³/h, and correction factors A=0.83, B=0.83, C=0.92, the corrected air flow capacity is 31 / (0.83 * 0.83 * 0.92) ≈ 48.9 m³/h. An IDFA8E would be selected for a 3°C dew point, or an IDFA6E for a 10°C dew point.
Refer to pages 92, 95, 98 for detailed model selection procedures and pages 101, 102 for options.
Options
Various options are available to enhance dryer functionality:
- Option A: Cool Compressed Air Output (IDFA3E to 11E): Reduces air flow capacity slightly; requires thermal insulation for downstream piping.
- Option C: Anti-corrosive Treatment (All IDFA models): Special epoxy coating on copper and copper alloy parts to minimize corrosion from gases like hydrogen sulfide or sulfurous acid.
- Option G: With Chinese Labels and Operation Manual (All IDFA models): Includes Chinese labels on the exterior and a Chinese operation manual.
- Option K: Moderate Pressure Specification (IDFA6E to 37E, IDFA100F to 150F): Uses a moderate pressure auto drain with a metal bowl and level gauge, allowing for a maximum operating pressure of 1.6 MPa.
- Option L: With Heavy Duty Auto Drain (IDFA4E to 75E): Replaces the standard float type auto drain with a heavy duty unit (ADH4000-04) for more efficient drainage.
- Option R: With Circuit Breaker (IDFA4E to 75E, IDFA100F to 150F): Includes an attached circuit breaker for simplified installation.
- Option T: With Terminal Block (IDFA4E to 75E): Provides terminals for power supply, operating signals, and remote operation. Standard on IDFA100F to 150F.
- Option V: Timer Type Solenoid Valve with Auto Drain (IDFA4E to 75E, IDFA100F to 150F): Discharges drainage via a timer-controlled solenoid valve for medium air pressure applications.
Dimensions
Detailed dimensions are provided for various model groups. These include measurements for width (A), depth (B), height (C), and other key points (D-Q) as indicated in the diagrams.
IDFA3E to 15E1: Tables provide dimensions (A-Q) for IDFA3E (Rc 3/8) and IDFA4E to IDFA15E1 (Rc 1/2 to Rc 1). Diagrams show the physical layout.
IDFA22E to 75E: Tables provide dimensions (A-Q) for IDFA22E/37E (R 1, R 1 1/2) and IDFA55E/75E (R 2). Diagrams illustrate the physical layout.
IDFA100F/125F/150F: Tables provide dimensions (A-Q) for IDFA100F/125F (R2, R2 1/2) and IDFA150F (DIN flange 80). Diagrams show the physical layout, noting that filter mounting brackets may project 10 mm.

Specific Product Precautions
Installation:
- Avoid direct contact with wind and rain, direct sunlight, dusty, corrosive, or flammable gas environments.
- Ensure good ventilation and avoid high temperatures.
- Maintain adequate clearance from walls for maintenance access.
- Prevent drawing in high-temperature air from other equipment.
- Avoid locations prone to vibration or where drains may freeze.
- Operate within the specified ambient temperature range (typically below 40°C).
- Avoid installation on moving machinery (trucks, ships).
- Be aware of potential issues with sudden pressure/flow rate changes.
Air Piping:
- Ensure correct connection of compressed air inlet (IN) and outlet (OUT) piping.
- Install bypass piping for maintenance.
- Use appropriate tools when tightening piping.
- Apply thermal insulation to piping to prevent condensation.
- Prevent vibration transmission from the compressor.
- Do not let piping weight rest directly on the dryer.
- Consider using rigid tubing if metallic flexible tubing causes abnormal noise.
Drain Tube:
- Use the provided polyurethane drain tube.
- Do not route the drain tube upwards or bend/crush it.
- If upward routing is unavoidable, ensure it only goes as far as the auto drain position.
- Pipe a 10 mm O.D. tube with a length of 5 m or less.
Power Supply:
- Connect power to the terminal block.
- Install a suitable circuit breaker (within ±10% voltage fluctuation).
- Refer to pages 93, 96, and 99 for applicable circuit breaker capacity.
Compressor Air Delivery:
- Use an air compressor with a delivery of 100 L/min or larger for IDFA3E to 75E series.
- Be aware that air may blow out from the drain port during compressor start-up until sufficient pressure is reached.
Auto Drain:
- Check auto drain operation daily, as it may depend on compressed air quality.
Cleaning of Ventilation Area:
- Remove dust from ventilation areas monthly using a vacuum cleaner or air blower.
Delay for Restarting:
- Allow at least three minutes before restarting the dryer after shutdown to prevent activation of the protection circuit.
- Consider installing an outlet filter to manage potential drainage splash upon restart.
Modifying Standard Specifications:
- Do not modify the product or its optional specifications after purchase.
Optional Accessories
- Dust-protecting Filter Set (IDF-FL 209): Prevents performance decline in dusty atmospheres. Applicable to IDFA3E to 75E.
- Foundation Bolt Set (IDF-AB 500/501): For securing the dryer to foundations. Made of stainless steel. Applicable to IDFA4E to 75E (500) and IDFA100F to 150F (501).
