Sygonix PIR Motion Sensor Operating Instructions

Sygonix PIR Motion Sensor (180°/360°, IP65)

Item no: 2377680

1. Intended Use

This product is an infrared (PIR) motion sensor that connects to the mains power supply. It can be wall, ceiling, or corner mounted. You can set a switch-on time to control how long the connected load stays on and adjust the switching threshold based on ambient light levels. The product is designed for private use only. The device has an IP65 rating, meaning it is protected from dust and low pressure water jets from any direction. Improper use can result in short circuits, fires, electric shocks, or other hazards. For safety and approval purposes, do not rebuild or modify the product. Read these operating instructions carefully and store them safely.

4. Symbol Explanation

  • The symbol with the exclamation mark in the triangle ⚠️ indicates important information. Always read this information carefully.
  • ⚡ Risk of electric shock! The product has protection class II (double or reinforced insulation). It must only be used in dry, enclosed indoor areas. It must not become damp or wet, as this may cause a fatal electric shock.
  • The arrow symbol ➡️ indicates special information and advice on operation.

5. Safety Instructions

Read the operating instructions carefully and observe the safety information. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury or property damage and will invalidate the warranty/guarantee.

5.1 General

  • The product is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly, as it can become dangerous playing material for children.
  • If you have questions not answered in this document, contact our technical support service or other technical personnel.

5.2 Handling

  • If the product can no longer be operated safely, take it out of operation and protect it from accidental use. Safe operation is no longer guaranteed if the product is visibly damaged, no longer working properly, has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient conditions, or has been subjected to serious transport stresses.
  • Handle the product carefully. Jolts, impacts, or falls, even from a low height, can damage the product.
  • Consult an expert if you have doubts about the operation, safety, or connection of the appliance.

5.3 Operating Environment

  • Do not place the product under any mechanical stress.
  • Protect the appliance from extreme temperatures, strong jolts, flammable gases, steam, and solvents.
  • Protect the product from high humidity and moisture.
  • Protect the product from direct sunlight.

5.4 Electrical Installation

WARNING! Safety hazard! The installation and connection of this product must only be performed by persons with relevant electrical knowledge and experience! Improper installation risks your own life, the life of the user, severe property damage (e.g., fire), and personal liability for damages. Always consult an electrician!

Required specialist knowledge for installation includes:

  • The applicable "Five safety rules": Disconnect from power supply; secure against accidental switch-on; ensure absence of voltage; earth and short-circuit; cover or shield adjacent live parts.
  • Use of suitable tools, measuring devices, and personal protective equipment.
  • Analysis of measurement results.
  • Use of electrical installation materials to ensure safe disconnection from the power supply.
  • Understanding of IP protection ratings.
  • Installation of electrical installation materials.
  • Knowledge of the power supply type (TN, IT, TT systems) and corresponding connection criteria (classic earthing, protective earthing, additional measures).

If you lack sufficient knowledge in any of these areas, do not attempt the installation yourself; hire a professional.

6. Installation

Important: Risk of fatal electric shock! Electrical installation must be carried out by a licensed professional. Observe the "Safety instructions", especially the "Electrical installation" warning. Installation consists of two parts: electrical connection and mounting.

6.1 Wiring Diagrams

The diagram illustrates the electrical connections. Ensure proper wiring by a qualified electrician.

[Description of wiring diagram: Shows input terminals labeled L (Line) and N (Neutral), and output terminals labeled L' (Load Line) and N (Neutral) connected to the LOAD.]

6.2 Mounting

The product can be mounted on a wall, ceiling, or in a corner using the provided bracket. Ensure secure mounting.

[Description of mounting illustration: Shows the sensor unit, wall/ceiling mount, and corner mount bracket.]

6.3 Sensor Coverage Area

The sensor has a detection height of 1.8-2.5 meters. The detection range is up to 3 meters for the smaller sensor (180° detection angle) and up to 12 meters for the larger sensor (360° detection angle). If the connected light fixture has a power rating of 60W or more, maintain a distance of at least 60cm between the light and the sensor.

[Diagram description: Shows a cone representing the detection area with height 1.8-2.5m, ranges 3m and 12m, and angles 180°/360°.]

6.4 Motion Sensor (PIR)

The passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor reacts to temperature changes, for example, when a person or animal enters the detection area. Position the sensor so that the object moves across the detection area. Observe the correct installation height. Do not point the sensor at radiators, lights, or objects with varying temperatures (e.g., electronic equipment), or objects that may move due to air currents, as this may trigger the sensor unintentionally. Do not install the product behind glass. Keep the sensor away from direct sunlight.

7. Operation

7.1 Switch-on Time "TIME"

Use this dial to set how long the connected load stays ON after the sensor is triggered. If new motion is detected during the switched-on time, the timer restarts. Refer to the "Technical Data" section for PIR sensor time delay details. Dial settings: Turn counter-clockwise to decrease the duration; turn clockwise to increase the duration.

[Diagram description: Shows a dial labeled TIME with settings like 10S, 30S, 90S, 3min, 7min, 15min.]

7.2 Switching Threshold "LUX"

Use this dial to adjust the switching threshold, i.e., the ambient light intensity at which your motion detector activates. Turn counter-clockwise to activate the motion detector in darker conditions. Turn clockwise to activate it in brighter conditions.

[Diagram description: Shows a dial labeled LUX with settings like 3, 30, 300.]

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CausesSolutions
Connected load does not switch ON.
  • Check the LUX setting; it should correspond to ambient light levels. If set too high, the sensor may not trigger in the dark.
  • Verify that the mains power supply is functioning correctly.
  • Check if the connected device (e.g., lamp) is functioning correctly.
Motion detection is not functioning correctly.
  • Movements within the detection area are too rapid and are filtered out by the electronic system to prevent switching errors.
  • The ambient temperature is too high.
  • Obstructions prevent the sensor from detecting heat sources (e.g., glass).
  • Check for induction sources within the detection area.
  • Ensure the correct installation height is observed (see Technical Data section).
The connected load is always ON.
  • Constant movements are occurring within the detection area.
  • New motion is detected before the previous switch-on time has elapsed.
  • Set a shorter time interval.

9. Cleaning and Care

Important: The product is generally maintenance-free. Any repair or maintenance work must be carried out exclusively by a specialist familiar with the product. Clean the product with a dry, fiber-free cloth. NOTICE! Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, rubbing alcohol, or other chemical solutions, as they can cause damage to the housing and lead to malfunctions.

10. Disposal

Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be disposed of with household waste. At the end of its service life, dispose of the product in accordance with applicable legal regulations. This fulfills your statutory obligations and contributes to environmental protection.
