Product Description
The Associated Model 6078 is a 12V parallel battery charger designed for automotive applications. It provides a maximum continuous output of 30 Amps and can charge 1 to 10, 12-volt batteries simultaneously in parallel, completing the charge in under 24 hours. The charger operates on 220VAC, 50/60Hz power. It features a patented multi-diode rectifier for robust performance and includes both an analog meter for monitoring charge rate (Amps Charge) and a voltmeter to display battery voltage. The unit is equipped with a Coarse Charge Rate Switch and a Fine Charge Rate Switch for precise control. It comes with a 1-year warranty and is manufactured in the USA using US and global components.
Key Controls and Indicators:
- Coarse Charge Rate Switch: Adjusts the primary charging current.
- Fine Charge Rate Switch: Provides finer adjustment of the charging current.
- Analog Meter (Amps Charge): Displays the current amperage being delivered to the batteries.
- Volt Meter: Displays the voltage of the batteries being charged.
Safety Information:
- Avoid sparks and open flames near batteries during charging due to explosive gas mixtures.
- Connect and disconnect charger leads only when the supply cord is disconnected or the charger is turned off.
- Do not overcharge batteries.
- Operate the unit in a well-ventilated area, at least 18 inches from the floor unless in a specifically designed enclosure.
- Do not expose to rain. Replace defective cords or wires immediately.
Operating Instructions:
- Do not operate the charger without it being connected to at least one battery.
- Connect 12-volt batteries in parallel. Refer to the manual for 6-volt battery charging.
- Do not exceed 30 amps on the meter.
- Batteries can remain connected indefinitely if the voltmeter reading is within the green zone.
- To charge, set both Coarse and Fine controls to 'LO-LO', then adjust them so the voltmeter reads according to the provided chart.
- Reduce the voltmeter reading to the green zone to add or remove batteries from the charging line.
Charging Guidelines by Battery Type:
Battery Type | Charging Target Zone |
---|---|
Standard (Top Band) | Start toward right of Blue Zone - stay out of Red at end of charge. |
Maintenance Free (Lower Band) | Start toward right of Yellow Zone - stay out of Red at end of charge. |
Mixture of Both (Top Band) | Start toward right of Blue Zone - stay out of Red at end of charge. |
Charging Modes:
- 12V Fast Charge (1 or 2 Batteries): Maximum 4 hours per battery. Target zone: Start toward right of Blue Zone, stay out of Red at end of charge.
- 12V Slow Charge (1 to 10 Batteries): Target zone: Start toward left of Blue Zone, stay out of Red at end of charge.
