Operation

3. Oil

Important: Only use oil expressly labelled "Chain Bar Oil".

  1. Remove the chain bar oil cap.
  2. Fill the tank with chain bar oil. The capacity is 220ml. Do not overfill.
  3. Refit the cap and clean any oil spillage.
  4. Always fill the oil tank when the oil level is below the minimum mark on the oil level window.

Lubrication Check: Switch on the chainsaw and hold the guide bar and chain over light-coloured paper. A steadily increasing stain from oil spray indicates the lubricating system is working. Note: Chain bar oil may leak if the tool is left for long periods; this is normal. Drain the oil if the tool will be unused for an extended time. Refill before use.

4. Switching On/Off

Switching ON:

  1. Pull the hand guard/chain brake towards you to disengage it.
  2. Hold the front handle with your left hand and the rear handle with your right hand.
  3. Press the lock-off button with your thumb, then squeeze the trigger switch. The chainsaw starts after a short delay.
  4. The chain will now be running, ready to cut. Release the lock-off button.

Warning!: Never start work unless the chain and bar are lubricated.

Switching OFF:

  1. Release the trigger switch; the chain and motor will stop quickly.

Chain Brake

The chainsaw is fitted with a chain brake that stops the chain within a tenth of a second. It operates automatically during kickback or manually by pushing the guard forward.

  • BRAKE ON: [Chain brake engaged]
  • BRAKE OFF / RUN: [Chain brake disengaged]
  • STOP: [Motor stopped]

Kickback: Occurs if the chain catches on wood, causing the chainsaw to recoil suddenly. Your hand on the front handle pushes the guard forward, engaging the brake and stopping the chain.

Applications

Caution: First-time users should practice cutting logs on a saw-horse or cradle.

Cutting

  1. Press the bucking spikes against the timber, ensuring the chain does not contact the material being cut.
  2. Start cutting by holding the chainsaw by the front handle and raising the rear handle.
  3. For logs that cannot be cut in a single stroke, apply light pressure to the front handle, draw the chainsaw back slightly, apply bucking spikes lower, and finish the cut by raising the rear handle.
  4. Withdraw the chainsaw from the cut while the chain is still running.

Hints and Tips:

  • Do not force the saw; apply only light pressure while the chain is running.
  • If the saw chain gets caught, do not twist the guide bar or pull forcibly. Use a lever or wedge to open the cut and free the chain.
  • Keep your left arm straight with the elbow locked to withstand kickback force.
  • While cutting, always:
    • Run the chainsaw motor at full speed for safety and reduced kickback risk.
    • Position your body to the left of the chainsaw so kickback goes over your right shoulder. Never stand in the cutting line of the saw.
    • Keep a firm grip with your left hand on the front handle, thumb securely below the handle.

Felling a Tree

Warning!: Felling a tree should only be done by trained operators.

Decide the felling direction, considering wind, branches, tree lean, and ease of subsequent work.

Limbing

Limbing is removing branches from a fallen tree. Check branch bending direction before cutting. Cut on the opposite side to the bend to prevent pinching. For large limbs, make an initial cut from the bent side and finish from the opposite direction. Do not remove limbs supporting the fallen tree until it's cut into lengths.

Bucking

Bucking is cutting a log into lengths. For logs on the ground, saw halfway, roll the log, and cut from the opposite side. For logs supported at the ends, saw up from the bottom one-third, then saw down from the top. For logs supported in the middle, saw down from the top one-third, then saw up from the bottom.

Caution: Avoid cutting the ground, as it quickly dulls the saw chain.

Pruning

Warning!: Do not use an unstable foothold or ladder. Do not overreach. Do not saw above shoulder height. Always use both hands. First cut up from the bottom and finish down from the top.

Pruning is removing limbs or branches from a standing tree.

Diagrammatic representation of cutting angles (30°) for left and right-hand cutters is described.

Maintenance

Warning: Always remove the battery before cleaning or performing maintenance to prevent accidental starting.

Caution: Always wear gloves when handling the chain, as it is very sharp.

Adjusting the Chain Tension

  1. Loosen the guide bar locking knob slightly by rotating it counter-clockwise.
  2. Adjust the chain tension screw: Clockwise increases tension; counter-clockwise decreases tension.
  3. For correct tension, pull the chain up from the top and middle of the exposed guide bar. The bottom tip of the links should just stay in the track. A 3-4mm gap is ideal.
  4. After accurate tensioning, lock the guide bar in place with the guide bar locking knob.

Note: Proper chain tension is crucial for cutting performance and chain life. Check before starting and during cutting.

Maintaining the Guide Bar

  1. Remove sawdust from the guide bar and groove. Oil and sawdust can cause a burning smell if not cleaned.
  2. Ensure the oil port is not clogged. Grease the nose sprocket at the tip of the guide bar.
  3. Check for oil leakage and loose fastenings, especially on handles and the guide bar.
  4. Reverse the guide bar every 8 working hours for uniform wear. Check guide rails frequently and remove burrs or square them with a flat file if necessary.

Chain Sharpening

Sharpen the chain regularly for optimum performance. Signs of a dull chain include powder-like sawdust, requiring extra force, cuts not tracking straight, and increased vibration.

  • Sharpen each cutter using a round 3.96mm (5/32") chain file.
  • Keep the file level with the top plate of the tooth.
  • Use outward strokes and maintain a 30° angle between the chain and file.
  • Cutters must have the same width and length after sharpening.
  • For professional sharpening, use an authorized repair centre every 3-4 uses.

Specifications for chain sharpening: Chain File: 3.96mm (5/32"), Chain Pitch: 9.53mm (3/8"), Chain Gauge: 1.1mm (0.043").

Cleaning and Storing

  • Keep handles free of grease for a firm grip.
  • Clean the device with a damp cloth and mild detergent if necessary.
  • If storing for an extended period, remove chain oil from the tank. Briefly immerse the chain and cutter rail in oil, then wrap in oil paper.
  • Ensure the guide bar cover is in place when storing.

Caution: Always disconnect the battery before cleaning. Never immerse the unit in water or other liquids. Store in a safe, dry place out of reach of children.

Troubleshooting

Battery Protection System

The tool has a battery protection system to ensure long service life. Output power automatically cuts off when:

  • Tool Overloaded: Release the trigger, remove the overload cause, then restart.
  • Low Battery Capacity: Recharge the battery pack.

Note: The protection system does not damage the tool. Indicated capacity may be lower than actual during or immediately after use.

Common Issues:

  • LED lights do not illuminate on charger: Check charger is securely plugged in, battery is firmly connected to the cradle, and charging jack is connected to the cradle.
  • Battery has a short run time: Ensure the battery is properly charged. It may take 4-5 charging cycles for optimal run time.
  • Sparking visible through housing air vents: A small amount of sparking is normal and does not indicate a problem.

Chainsaw Safety Warnings

  • Keep body parts away from the saw chain when operating. Ensure the chain contacts nothing before starting.
  • Always hold the chainsaw with your right hand on the rear handle and left hand on the front handle. Reversed grip increases injury risk.
  • Hold by insulated gripping surfaces only, as the chain may contact hidden wiring.
  • Wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Additional protective gear (head, hands, legs, feet) is recommended.
  • Do not operate a chainsaw in a tree.
  • Maintain proper footing and operate only on fixed, secure, level surfaces.
  • Be alert for spring back when cutting limbs under tension.
  • Use extreme caution cutting brush and saplings, as they can catch the chain.
  • Carry the chainsaw by the front handle, switched off and away from your body. Always fit the guide bar cover during transport or storage.
  • Follow instructions for lubrication and chain tensioning. Improperly tensioned or lubricated chains may break or increase kickback.
  • Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil/grease.
  • Cut wood only. Do not use for plastic, masonry, or non-wood materials.

Causes and Operator Prevention of Kickback

Kickback occurs when the guide bar nose/tip touches an object, or the wood pinches the chain. Tip contact can cause a sudden upward and backward reaction. Pinching can push the bar back towards the operator. Either can cause loss of control and serious injury.

Prevent Kickback by:

  • Maintaining a firm grip with both hands, encircling handles, and positioning your body to resist kickback forces.
  • Do not overreach; do not cut above shoulder height.
  • Use only manufacturer-specified replacement bars and chains.
  • Follow sharpening and maintenance instructions; decreasing depth gauge height can increase kickback.

This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised or instructed by a person responsible for their safety.
