Assembly
1. Guide Bar & Chain
⚠ ENSURE THE TOOL IS TURNED OFF AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER SUPPLY BEFORE PERFORMING ANY OPERATIONS.
⚠ ALWAYS WEAR HEAVY GLOVES WHEN HANDLING THE CHAIN AS IT IS VERY SHARP AND CAN CUT YOU WHEN IT IS NOT MOVING.
- Fully unscrew the side cover lock by turning it in an anti-clockwise direction.
- Remove the side cover.
- Fit the chain over the guide bar, making sure that the cutters are facing in the direction of rotation.
- Place the guide bar and chain in position, ensuring the chain is around the sprocket (A) and the chain tensioning pin (B) fits into the guide bar. Adjust with the chain tensioning dial if necessary. The chain must not slip off the bar.
- Pull the guide bar forward until the chain is closely seated, ensuring all drive links are in the groove of the guide bar.
- Place the side cover at a slight angle and secure with the side cover lock, turning several times for the thread to engage.
Note: Do not fully tighten the side cover lock until after adjusting the chain tension.
Setup & Preparation
2. Chain Tension
⚠ ENSURE THE TOOL IS TURNED OFF AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER SUPPLY BEFORE PERFORMING ANY OPERATIONS.
Tensioning the Chain:
- Unscrew the side cover lock a few turns to ensure it is loose.
- Adjust the chain tension with the chain tensioning dial. Rotating the dial downwards increases tension, and rotating upwards decreases it.
- The tension is correct when the chain can be pulled approximately 3mm away from the guide bar using your finger and thumb. Do not over-tighten, as this reduces the life of the chain and guide bar.
- Tighten the side cover lock.
⚠ ALL CHAIN LINKS MUST LIE PROPERLY IN THE GROOVE OF THE GUIDE BAR.
⚠ THE CHAIN SHOULD BE ADJUSTED BEFORE FIRST USE, AGAIN AFTER 2-3 MINUTES OF OPERATION, AND RECHECKED/ADJUSTED IF NECESSARY AFTER EACH 30 MINUTES OF USE. TAKE CARE NOT TO OVER-TENSION THE CHAIN.
3. Lubrication
⚠ ONLY USE OIL THAT IS EXPRESSLY LABELLED "CHAIN BAR OIL".
Filling with Oil:
Use a funnel (not supplied) and fill the tank slowly to prevent spilling. Do not overfill.
- Place the chainsaw on a flat surface and remove the oil tank cap.
- Slowly fill the tank with chain bar oil, ensuring no dirt enters. The capacity is 160ml.
- Refit the cap and clean any oil spillage.
- Always fill the oil tank when the level falls below the minimum mark on the oil level window.
Note: Always check the oil level window before and during use.
⚠ NEVER OPERATE THE CHAINSAW UNLESS THE CHAIN AND BAR ARE LUBRICATED.
Checking Lubrication: Switch on the chainsaw and hold the guide bar and chain above light-coloured paper. A steadily increasing stain from oil spray indicates the system is working.
Note: Chain bar oil may leak if the tool is left for long periods; this is normal. If unused for an extended time, drain the oil and refill before use.
Operation
4. Cord Retainer
The cord retainer anchors an extension lead (not included) to the tool's power cord, preventing accidental disconnection or loosening during use. Use only a Heavy Duty extension lead suitable for outdoor electric garden tools, no longer than 25 meters.
- Make a loop in the end of the extension lead and pass it through the hole in the handle.
- Hook the loop over the cord retainer. Pull the extension lead to secure it in position.
- Connect the extension lead to the tool's power cord. Route cords away from the work area to prevent contact with the chainsaw.
Note: Always use an approved extension lead suitable for the tool's power input and outdoor use.
5. Chain Brake
The chain brake operates automatically in the event of kickback. It is integrated with the front hand guard and stops the chain within a tenth of a second when operated. The brake can be engaged manually by pushing the guard forward or automatically due to kickback.
Kickback occurs if the chain catches on wood or the cut closes in, causing the chainsaw to push back suddenly. In a kickback event, your hand jerks forward, pushing the guard forward, engaging the chain brake and stopping the chain.
⚠ CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE CHAIN BRAKE ON A REGULAR BASIS. NEVER USE THE CHAINSAW IF THE CHAIN BRAKE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY.
6. Switching On/Off
⚠ TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK, WE RECOMMEND THE USE OF A RESIDUAL CURRENT DEVICE (RATED 30mA OR LESS).
Switching On:
- Pull the hand guard/chain brake towards you. It may be stiff. If engaged, the chain will not operate.
- Hold the front handle with your left hand and the rear handle with your right hand.
- Use your right thumb to push the lock-off switch and squeeze the on/off trigger to start the motor.
- The chain will now be running. Release the lock-off switch.
Switching Off: Release the ON/OFF trigger. The integrated brake will stop the chain quickly.
⚠ ALWAYS CARRY THE CHAINSAW BY THE FRONT HANDLE. IF THE CHAINSAW IS PLUGGED IN AND CARRIED BY THE REAR HANDLE, THERE IS A RISK OF ACCIDENTALLY PRESSING THE LOCK-OFF SWITCH AND ON/OFF TRIGGER SIMULTANEOUSLY, STARTING THE CHAINSAW.
7. Cutting
⚠ FIRST TIME USERS SHOULD PRACTISE CUTTING LOGS ON A SAW-HORSE OR CRADLE.
⚠ POSITION THE POWER LEAD SO THAT IT WILL NOT BE CAUGHT IN BRANCHES DURING CUTTING.
- Press the bucking spikes against the timber, ensuring the chain does not contact the material.
- Start cutting by holding the chainsaw by the front handle and raising the rear handle.
- If a single stroke is insufficient, apply light pressure to the front handle, draw the chainsaw back slightly, apply bucking spikes lower, and finish the cut by raising the rear handle.
- Withdraw the chainsaw from the cut while the chain is still running.
Hints and Tips:
- Do not force the saw; apply light pressure while the motor runs at full speed.
- If the chain gets caught: switch off, disconnect power, do not twist the bar or pull forcibly. Use a lever or wedge to open the cut.
- Always run the chainsaw motor at full revs for safety (reduces pull-in/kick-back).
- Position your body to the left of the chainsaw so kickback goes over your right shoulder. Never stand in the cutting line.
- Maintain a firm grip with your left hand on the front handle, thumb securely below the handle.
Applications
8. Cutting Applications
⚠ KICKBACK MAY OCCUR WHEN THE NOSE OR TIP OF THE GUIDE BAR TOUCHES AN OBJECT, OR WHEN THE WOOD CLOSES IN AND PINCHES THE SAW CHAIN IN THE CUT. TIP CONTACT CAN CAUSE A LIGHTNING FAST REVERSE REACTION, KICKING THE GUIDE BAR UP AND BACK TOWARDS THE OPERATOR.
Felling a Tree
⚠ FELLING A TREE SHOULD ONLY BE DONE BY TRAINED OPERATORS.
Decide the felling direction considering wind, branch position, tree lean, and ease of limbing/bucking.
Limbing
⚠ ALWAYS KEEP A BALANCED STANCE. DO NOT STAND ON THE LOG. BE ALERT TO THE FACT THAT THE LOG MAY ROLL OVER. WHEN WORKING ON A SLOPE, ALWAYS STAND ON THE UP HILL SIDE OF THE LOG.
Limbing is removing branches from a fallen tree. Check branch bend direction before cutting. Cut on the opposite side to the bend to avoid pinching. For large limbs, make an initial cut from the bent side and finish from the opposite direction. Do not remove supporting limbs until the tree is cut into lengths.
Bucking
⚠ AVOID CUTTING INTO THE GROUND AS THIS WILL VERY QUICKLY DULL THE CHAIN.
Bucking is cutting logs into lengths. For logs on the ground, saw halfway, roll over, and cut from the opposite side. For logs supported off the ground, saw up from the bottom one-third, then down from the top. For logs supported in the middle, saw down from the top one-third, then up from the bottom.
Pruning
⚠ DO NOT USE AN UNSTABLE FOOT-HOLD OR LADDER. DO NOT OVERREACH. DO NOT SAW ABOVE SHOULDER HEIGHT. ALWAYS USE BOTH HANDS TO HOLD THE SAW. FIRST CUT UP FROM THE BOTTOM AND FINISH DOWN FROM THE TOP.
Pruning is the removal of a limb or branch from a standing tree.
Maintenance
⚠ ENSURE THE TOOL IS TURNED OFF AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER SUPPLY BEFORE PERFORMING ANY OPERATIONS.
⚠ ALWAYS WEAR HEAVY GLOVES WHEN HANDLING THE CHAIN AS IT IS VERY SHARP AND CAN CUT YOU WHEN IT IS NOT MOVING.
Chain Tension
Check and adjust chain tension frequently (refer to Setup & Preparation section).
Maintaining the Guide Bar
Prevent guide bar problems by keeping the chainsaw well maintained. Insufficient lubrication or an overtightened chain causes rapid bar wear.
- Reverse the bar every 8 working hours for uniform wear. Keep the bar groove and lubrication hole clean.
- Check bar rails frequently for wear. Remove burs and square-up rails with a flat file if necessary.
- Clean oil passages to ensure proper lubrication. Grease the nose sprocket at the tip of the guide bar.
Note: Clear oil passages are indicated by the chain automatically spraying oil within seconds of starting the saw.
Chain Sharpening
⚠ WEAR HEAVY GLOVES WHEN HANDLING THE CHAIN. HOLD THE GUIDE BAR SECURELY IN A VICE.
Chain Specifications: Chain File: 3.96mm (5/32"), Chain Pitch: 9.53mm (3/8"), Chain Gauge: 1.3mm (.050").
Sharpen regularly for optimum performance. Signs of a dull chain include powder-like sawdust, requiring extra force, inaccurate cuts, or increased vibration.
Sharpen each cutter using a chain file with outward strokes at a 30° angle. Ensure all cutters have the same width and length after sharpening.
For professional sharpening, visit an authorized repair centre every 3-4 uses.
MAINTENANCE (cont.)
Cleaning & Storing
- Keep handles free of grease and oil for a firm grip.
- Clean the device with a damp cloth and mild washing up liquid if necessary.
- For extended periods of non-use, remove chain bar oil from the tank. Briefly immerse the chain and guide bar in an oil bath, wrap in oil paper, and store in the guide bar cover.

Additional Safety Instructions for Chainsaws
- Keep all body parts away from the saw chain when operating. Ensure the chain is not contacting anything before starting.
- Always hold the chainsaw with your right hand on the rear handle and left hand on the front handle.
- Hold by insulated gripping surfaces only, as the chain may contact hidden wiring or its own cord, leading to electric shock.
- Wear eye protection; hearing, head, hand, leg, and foot protection are recommended.
- Do not operate a chainsaw in a tree, on a ladder, or from an unstable support.
- Always maintain proper footing on a fixed, secure, and level surface.
- Be alert for spring back when cutting a limb under tension.
- Use extreme caution when cutting brush and saplings, as slender material can catch the chain.
- Carry the chainsaw by the front handle with the saw switched off and away from your body. Always fit the guide bar cover when transporting or storing.
- Follow instructions for lubricating, chain tensioning, and changing the bar/chain. Improperly tensioned or lubricated chains may break or increase kickback.
- Cut wood only. Do not use for plastic, masonry, or non-wood materials.
- Do not attempt to fell a tree without understanding the risks and how to avoid them. Ensure an adequate work area.
Causes and Operator Prevention of Kickback
Kickback occurs when the guide bar nose/tip touches an object or the wood pinches the chain. Tip contact can cause a sudden reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back. Pinching the chain can push the bar rapidly back. Either can cause loss of control and serious injury.
Prevent kickback by:
- Maintaining a firm grip with both hands, encircling handles, and positioning your body to resist kickback forces.
- Not overreaching and not cutting above shoulder height.
- Using only manufacturer-specified replacement bars and chains.
- Following sharpening and maintenance instructions; decreasing depth gauge height can increase kickback.
