4. APP Function Description
4.1 OBD Service
1. Login
Basic functions are available without logging in. However, logging in allows data synchronization across devices.
2. Read Codes
Read OBD fault codes. The warning light can be reset after clearing the fault codes once the issue is resolved.
The OBD Scan (On Board Diagnostics Scan) function is an advanced technology for diagnosing faults in automotive engine control units. It utilizes the on-board diagnostic system (OBD system) to monitor and diagnose vehicle faults in real-time. Key functions include reading and clearing fault codes.
Operating steps:
- Read the fault code: Insert the device, connect via Bluetooth successfully, and click the "OBD Scan" button.
- Clear fault code: After reading the fault codes, click the "Clear Code" button and then "Clear" to complete the operation.
4.1.1 Data Stream
View real-time OBD data flow. Users can select and combine data through the button in the upper right corner.
In automotive diagnostics, data flow refers to the parameters exchanged between electronic control units (ECUs), sensors, and actuators. This data is read by specialized diagnostic instruments via diagnostic interfaces. Data streams change with time and operating conditions, providing real-time information on the status of various vehicle systems and components for maintenance technicians. Key uses include fault location, performance analysis, preventive maintenance, cylinder control, maintenance guidance, and data analysis.
Operating steps:
- Insert the device, connect via Bluetooth successfully, click the "Data Stream" button on the homepage, read the data stream, and generate a report.
Tips:
- The system defaults to displaying 10 commonly used data streams. Users can click the upper right corner to select and display more data streams.
- Data streams can be used to generate reports.
To view the visualization interface of the combined data stream:
- Click the "..." button in the upper right corner.
- Click the "Combined data" button, select up to 4 data streams to display, and click "OK".
4.1.2 Smog Test
The primary purpose of a smog test is to verify if a vehicle's exhaust emissions comply with local government standards. This test is crucial for vehicle transactions, registration, or annual inspections, contributing to reduced air pollution and environmental protection.
Operating steps:
- Insert the device, connect via Bluetooth successfully, click the "Smog Test" icon on the service page, and read the test data.
- Click 'Generate report' to output the test report.
4.1.3 Freeze Frame
When an ECU detects a fault and triggers a Fault Code (DTC), it automatically records and saves the vehicle's status information at the moment the fault occurred. This includes real-time data from sensors like engine speed, vehicle speed, and coolant temperature, frozen at a specific point to form a detailed snapshot. This function is vital for fault analysis, maintenance guidance, and evaluating overall vehicle performance.
Operating steps:
- Insert the device, connect via Bluetooth successfully, click the "Freeze Frame" icon on the service page, and read the freeze frame data.
4.1.4 O2 Sensor Monitor
The O2 Sensor Monitor function enables the car's electronic control system to use data from the oxygen sensor to optimize combustion. It confirms the sensor's presence and readiness, adjusting the air-fuel ratio by measuring exhaust oxygen to improve combustion efficiency and reduce harmful emissions.
Effect:
- Real-time monitoring: Ensures accuracy and timeliness of oxygen sensor data.
- Optimize combustion: Utilizes oxygen sensor data to enhance engine combustion, improve fuel efficiency, and reduce exhaust emissions.
- Fault detection: Promptly detects oxygen sensor malfunctions or abnormal data, triggering fault codes for easier diagnosis and repair.
Operating steps:
- Insert the device, connect via Bluetooth successfully, and click the "O2 Sensor Monitor" icon on the service page.
4.1.5 On-Board Monitoring Test
This function allows the OBD system to test specific monitored systems and report results, assisting maintenance personnel in quickly and accurately diagnosing vehicle emission-related faults and ensuring compliance with environmental requirements. The OBD system monitors systems like the engine, catalytic converter, and oxygen sensor. Malfunctions trigger fault codes (DTCs) communicated via diagnostic interfaces. Maintenance personnel can use professional tools to connect to the ECU and request test results.
Effect: Enables quick and accurate diagnosis of emission-related faults, improving maintenance efficiency.
Operating steps:
- Insert the device, connect via Bluetooth successfully, click the "On Board Monitoring Test" icon on the service page, and read the data.
- Click 'Generate report' to view the report.
4.1.6 Vehicle Information
The Vehicle Information function retrieves details about the vehicle, including the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and engine model.
Operating steps:
- Insert the device, connect via Bluetooth successfully, click the "Vehicle Information" icon on the service page, and read the data.
- Click 'Generate report' to view the report.
4.1.7 EVAP Test
The EVAP Test function performs comprehensive testing and analysis of the vehicle's fuel evaporation control system. It confirms system faults or performance degradation, ensuring proper operation, preventing fuel vapor leaks into the atmosphere, and optimizing fuel use while reducing emissions.
A failure in the EVAP system may trigger the engine light. EVAP system failures are often difficult to diagnose independently. If the EVAP monitor detects a leak during the test, it sets a fault code between P0440 and P0457. For safety, conduct this test in a well-ventilated environment.
4.1.8 MIL Status
The MIL Status function uses diagnostic equipment to monitor the status of the vehicle's Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) in real-time, including whether it is on or flashing. This helps determine potential faults or abnormalities, assisting maintenance personnel in quickly and accurately locating issues, improving efficiency, and ensuring vehicle safety and reliability.
Operating steps:
- Insert the device, connect via Bluetooth successfully, click the "Mil Status" icon on the service page, and read the data.
4.1.9 DTC Library
Quickly search for fault causes and repair suggestions by inputting fault codes.
