Assembly
(You will need a screwdriver.)
- Carefully remove all components from the packaging and check for damage. If the equipment is damaged, immediately inform the retailer from whom you purchased it.
- The sand filter must be placed on a firm, level surface, ideally on a concrete slab. Position the sand filter so that the outlets and control valve are accessible for operation, servicing, and winterization.
- EN60335-2-41 TEST requires the sand filter to be secured vertically to the ground, a wooden or concrete base, to prevent it from falling. The complete sand filter assembly weighs over 18 kg. The mounting holes must be 8 mm in diameter and 285 mm apart. Secure the sand filter to the base using two bolts with nuts, with a maximum diameter of 8 mm.
IMPORTANT: Do not put chlorine in the strainer to prevent damage to the sand filter.
Filling with Pool Filter Sand / Polysphere™ Pool Filter Balls
NOTE: Use only special pool filter sand free of calcium and clay: silica sand #20, 0.45-0.85 mm, approximately 8.5 kg package should be sufficient. If you use filter sand other than recommended, filtration performance will be limited, and the sand filter and its warranty may be compromised.
NOTE: To prevent damage to the strainer when adding sand, pour some water into the bottom of the tank so that the strainer in the neck is submerged.
NOTE: Sand/Polysphere™ pool filter balls are not included.
NOTE: To replace 1 kg (2.20 lb.) of sand, use 28 g (0.06 lb.) of Polysphere™ pool filter balls.

Control Valve – Overview
WARNING: To prevent damage and possible injury, always turn off the sand filter before switching the control valve. Changing the position of the control valve while the pump is running can damage the control valve, which can lead to personal injury and property damage.
To use the control valve: Press down the control valve lever and rotate it to the desired position.
Control Valve – Functions
The control valve is used to select 6 different filter functions: Filter, Closed, Backwash, Rinse, Drain, and Circulate.
- Filter (►): This function is used to filter pool water. The valve will be in this position 99% of the time. Water is pumped through the sand filter, where it is cleaned, and returned to the pool. (Diagram shows water flowing from A, through the filter, and back to B).
- Closed (X): This function closes the water flow between the sand filter and the pool. (Diagram shows no water flow between A and B, with the valve closed).
- Backwash («): This function is used to clean the sand bed; water is pumped upwards through the sand bed and discharged out of outlet D. (Diagram shows water flowing from A, upwards through the filter, and out through D).
- Rinse (☛): This function is used for start-up, cleaning, and leveling the sand bed after backwash; water is pumped downwards through the sand bed, upwards through the neck, and discharged out of outlet D. (Diagram shows water flowing from A, downwards through the filter, then upwards and out through D).
- Drain (☜): This function drains water from the pool; water again bypasses the filter and is pumped out of the pool via outlet D. (Diagram shows water flowing from A, bypassing the filter, and out through D).
- Circulate (☝): This function circulates water around the sand filter; use this function if the filter is damaged. Debris is collected on the strainers. (Diagram shows water flowing from A, bypassing the filter, and returning to B).
NOTE:
- Ensure all wastewater disposal measures comply with applicable local, state, and national laws. Dispose of water in a way that does not cause flooding or other damage.
- If the control valve is set to backwash, rinse, or drain, water will be directed to the control valve's D outlet.
- Do not connect or operate the sand filter with the control valve in the closed position, as this will cause serious damage to the sand filter.
- If the sand filter is in operation, do not set the control valve to an intermediate position between two functions, as this will cause leakage.
- To prevent water leakage, attach the plug to the control valve's D outlet before operating the sand filter.
Air Bleeding
Press the control valve handle and wait until water flows out of outlet D and air is released.
NOTE: This procedure must be performed after each start-up after winter storage, maintenance, and cleaning of the sand bed by backwashing.
Instructions for First Use
The backwash and rinse functions must be used to prepare the pump before first use and to wash the sand.
CAUTION: DO NOT RUN THE SAND FILTER DRY.
- Press down the control valve lever and rotate it to the backwash position.
- Plug into the electrical outlet and let the sand filter run for 3-5 minutes or until clean water flows out.
- Turn off the sand filter and set the control valve to the rinse position.
- Turn on the sand filter and let it run for 1 minute. This will circulate water through the sand filter in the opposite direction and discharge it through outlet D.
- Turn off the sand filter. Set the control valve to the closed position.
- Refill the pool water as needed.
IMPORTANT: This procedure will drain water from the pool, which will need to be refilled. Immediately turn off the sand filter if the water level approaches the pool's inlet and outlet valves.
- The sand filter is ready for use. Set the control valve to the filter position.
NOTE: To prevent the risk of electric shock, dry any excess water on your body and on the sand filter.
- Turn on the sand filter.
NOTE: The sand filter has just started its filtration cycle. Verify that water is returning to the pool and observe the filtration pressure on the pressure gauge. Generally, during operation, the recommended sand filter pressure is below 0.25 Bar (3.5 PSI).
Sand Filter Maintenance
CAUTION: Before starting maintenance, you must turn off the pump and disconnect it from the electrical outlet, otherwise there is a risk of serious or fatal injury.
As the amount of dirt in the sand filter increases, the pressure value will also rise. If the pressure gauge shows 0.25 bar (3.5 PSI) or higher, or if the water flow into the pool is too low, it's time to clean the sand. When cleaning the sand bed, follow all instructions provided in: Backwash and Rinse.
NOTE: The pressure gauge is intended for maintenance only, and the value it indicates is for orientation only. The pressure gauge cannot be used as a precise instrument.
NOTE: We recommend cleaning the sand bed once a month or at longer intervals depending on the frequency of pool use. Do not clean the sand too often.
Strainer Cleaning
- Turn off the sand filter and set the control valve to the closed position.
- Place plugs in the strainer locations to prevent water from flowing out.
- Unscrew the strainer cover.
- Remove the strainer and remove all debris.
- Return the strainer to its place. The opening in the strainer must be aligned.
- The sealing ring must be in place. Return the strainer cover to its place.
- Remove the plugs and insert the strainers.
NOTE: The strainer must be emptied and cleaned regularly. A dirty or clogged strainer reduces the performance of the sand filter.
Lowering Pool Water Level and Draining (Continued)
- Turn off the sand filter and set the control valve to the drain position.
- Disconnect the hose from pool outlet A and sand filter outlet A, and connect it to outlet D.
NOTE: Remember to place plugs in the strainer locations to prevent water from flowing out.
- Turn on the sand filter and remove water from the pool.
WARNING: DO NOT RUN THE SAND FILTER DRY.
Storage
In areas where temperatures drop below freezing in winter, pool accessories must be winterized to prevent damage. If water freezes, the sand filter will be damaged and the warranty will be void.
- Backwash the sand filter.
- Drain the pool according to the pool owner's manual.
- Disconnect both hoses from the pool and sand filter.
- Completely empty the sand from the tank and dry all components.
- Store the sand filter in a dry place out of reach of children.
