Asus X54C Keyboard Replacement

Introduction

This document outlines the procedure to remove and replace the keyboard for ASUS X54C, X54H, and X54HR laptop models.

Tools Required

• iFixit Opening Tools (1)
• Tweezers (1)
• Paper cutter (1)

Step 1 – Battery Removal

This step involves preparing the laptop by disconnecting power and removing the battery. The battery is typically secured by two locking mechanisms on the underside of the laptop.

• Disconnect the charger and switch off the laptop.
• Locate and unlock the two keys/latches that secure the battery.
• Carefully remove the battery from its compartment.

Step 2 – Keyboard Removal

This step details the process of detaching the keyboard from the laptop chassis. The keyboard is held in place by several locking clips and connected via a ribbon cable.

• The keyboard is held by 5x locking clips, typically located along the top edge of the keyboard.
• Use a tool with a thin tip (such as an iFixit opening tool or a paper cutter) to gently lift the keyboard slightly, starting from the left side.
• Carefully unlock each clip one by one, working your way across the keyboard.
• Once all clips are disengaged, gently lift the keyboard to access the ribbon cable underneath.
• Disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable from its connector on the motherboard.

Reassembly

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order. Ensure the keyboard ribbon cable is securely connected before snapping the keyboard back into place and reinserting the battery.
