GE Profile™ Series 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop PP9830DR
Dimensions and Installation Information
This section provides essential dimensions and installation guidelines for the GE Profile™ Series 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop.
Wall Installation
Wall installations require a 25-inch countertop depth. For cabinets flush against the wall, the fan housing can be rotated horizontally for direct venting through the rear wall. A countertop cutout in the range cabinet must be made according to unit dimensions and installation type. The duct hole is positioned in the back of the cabinet for through-the-wall ducting.
Peninsula or Island Installation
For peninsula or island installations, a minimum 26-inch countertop depth is suggested. The blower should be in a vertical position. Island or peninsula cabinets may require adjustments in cutout depth and/or location within the width dimensions. The duct hole is positioned in the bottom of the cabinet for island or peninsula installation.
Slab Installation
For peninsula or island installation and rear wall ducting, 6-inch PVC duct or locally approved piping should be used if installing under a poured concrete slab. Local building codes must be followed for specifying the type and schedule of all duct used.
Receptacle Location
Install an approved junction box within the shaded area shown in the installation diagrams. The junction box must be at least 10-1/2 inches below the top of the cabinet.
Installation Information
Before installing, consult the installation instructions packed with the product for current dimensional data. Electrical cable is not supplied with the unit; order part number JXCK89 from your GE Appliances Dealer. These cooktops are approved for indoor use only.
Approximate Cooking Dimensions and Installation Layout
Diagrams illustrate the approximate cooking dimensions and installation layout for the 30-inch cooktop. A top-down view shows four circular heating elements and a central downdraft vent, with key dimensions provided for width, depth, and element spacing. Side and cross-section views detail the required countertop depth, cabinet integration, and duct connection points for various installation types, including wall, peninsula, and island configurations. A note specifies a minimum 6-inch clearance to adjacent side walls.

Installing the Ductwork
Use galvanized or aluminum duct in 6-inch round or 3-1/4" x 10" size, or a combination of both. PVC duct or locally approved piping should be used if installing under a poured concrete slab.
Important Notes:
- Ductwork must be vented to the outside. Do not vent into a wall, ceiling, crawlspace, attic, or any concealed space.
- Always use an appropriate roof or wall cap with a damper.
- Laundry-type wall caps should never be used.
- For maximum efficiency, use the shortest and straightest duct run possible, with as few fittings as possible.
- For satisfactory performance, the duct run should not exceed 100 feet equivalent length. Refer to the table of equivalent lengths (shown in installation instructions) for various duct configurations.
Ducting Configuration Examples
Diagrams depict various ductwork routing options for the downdraft system, including: exiting through the cabinet toe space, routing between floor joists, vertical venting through a wall to the roof, and direct venting through a wall. These illustrate paths for downward and rear wall venting, emphasizing the need for proper external termination.
