Key Features
NXDN Digital Air Interface
NEXEDGE radios utilize NXDN, an FDMA digital air interface featuring AMBE+2™ voice coding technology, advanced filtering, and a 4-level FSK modulation technique. This ensures a low bit error rate (BER) even at weak RF signal strengths.
Enhanced Audio Quality
AMBE+2 VOCODER technology accurately reproduces natural human speech nuances for superior voice quality, even at highway speeds. The powerful 57 x 35 mm oval speaker delivers up to 4W (4Ω impedance) audio output for undeniably clearer and crisper sound.
Ultimate Performance
Maximum RF output power is 50W for the NX-740H VHF model, 45W for the NX-840H UHF model, and 25W for the NX-740/840 VHF/UHF models. The NX-840 Series offers UHF frequency coverage of 70 MHz.
High Security
KENWOOD prioritizes confidentiality. In analog mode, a 16-code voice inversion scrambler provides security. Robust NXDN encryption is available for digital mode communications.
32 Channels / 2 Zones
This radio supports two conventional zones, with up to 16 channels available per zone.
Switchable Digital and Analog Dual Modes
The NX-740/840 Series functions as two radios in one. It operates on 12.5/25 kHz in analog zones and on 6.25/12.5 kHz NXDN in digital zones. A programmable function (PF) key can be used to switch between zones for convenience.
6.25 & 12.5 kHz NXDN Digital Channels
Digital communications offer greater spectrum efficiency and wider area coverage compared to analog systems.
NXDN Digital Conventional
Compatible with NEXEDGE Digital Conventional Mode, this radio supports 64 RAN (Radio Access Numbers) and individual & conference group calling for efficient communications.
NXDN Type-D Digital Trunking
The NX-740/840 Series supports the NXDN Type-D digital trunking protocol. This architecture, also known as distributed or decentralized trunking, allows all channels to operate as traffic channels without requiring a dedicated control channel. This enables the development of an efficient, reliable, and affordable trunking system, ideal for users migrating to small-scale digital trunking systems. ⭐ Requires activation.
GPS Feature
Connecting a GPS unit to the NX-740/840 Series allows accurate vehicle location (GPS) data to be transmitted to the central base station for fleet management purposes.
External D-SUB 15-PIN Interface
The radio's D-Sub 15-pin terminal supports peripheral connections, including Ignition Sense, External Switch, and Horn Alert. Molex interface compatibility is available via the optional KCT-60 cable.
