Kenwood NX-3000 Series

NEXEDGE VHF/UHF Multi-Protocol Digital & Analog Radios

Two-Way Radio for Every Profession

The cover features images of professionals in various fields – a firefighter, a construction worker, and a security guard – all equipped with Kenwood radios, highlighting the versatility of the NX-3000 series.

Multi-Protocol For Today's Demanding Industries

The KENWOOD NX-3000 Series enables easy upgrade to digital. Choose your preferred digital protocol from NXDN or DMR Tier II, or opt for FM analog. Benefit from world-renowned KENWOOD audio, enhanced with Active Noise Reduction (ANR) and optimized DSP for superior audio clarity in noisy environments and enhanced digital coverage. Innovative features include a user-programmable 7-color light bar indicator, built-in GPS and Bluetooth, and remote worker functions.

One Radio - Multi-Protocol

A circular graphic illustrates the multi-protocol capability, showing NXDN, DMR, and FM Analog.

Customize at Will

The NX-3000 Series offers future-proof flexibility with support for NXDN and DMR digital protocols, plus FM analog, all in one radio. Select your desired digital protocol to migrate or expand your digital environment.

NXDN Digital Protocol

NXDN supports 12.5 kHz and 6.25 kHz channel bandwidths using FDMA technology, providing excellent spectrum efficiency, wide coverage, and scalability. NXDN Type-C Trunking and Gen2 Trunking offer flexibility and performance, capable of linking over 1,000 sites.

DMR Digital Protocol

DMR is ideal for simple, cost-effective systems requiring capacity. Its 2-slot TDMA technology offers two talk paths within a 12.5 kHz bandwidth, effectively doubling capacity per license/repeater.

FM Analog

FM analog protocol is offered in 25 kHz*¹ and narrow 12.5 kHz channel spacing. Conventional and LTR systems are available, supporting QT/DQT, DTMF, 2-tone, MDC-1200, and FleetSync® signaling.

*¹ Some limitations apply in certain regions for wide channel spacing.

Clear and Confident

Active Noise Reduction (ANR)

KENWOOD's ANR uses DSP to distinguish voice from noise, eliminating ambient noise for clear communication. Advanced digital noise reduction is available with optional microphones, like the KMC-54WD speaker microphone with a dual-mic system for portable models with a 14-pin Universal Connector.

Audio Optimization

Customize audio processing with TX/RX audio equalizer, auto gain control, and ANR audio profiles. The Low Noise Level Adjustment function can automatically switch off noise reduction when background noise is low, preventing audio quality degradation.

Auto Recording

Automatically records and plays back past conversations, ensuring no missed names, numbers, or key information during calls.

Voice Prompts

Voice announcements provide information on selected zone/channel, functions, and button presses. Available in 11 languages, these can include user-recorded phrases for guidance on zone/channel names, button functions, and transceiver status.

Location - Hands-free

Integrated GPS for Location Management

The integrated GPS receiver/antenna allows sending current radio location data to recipients. Positional data supports applications like KAS-20 AVL & Dispatch Software. GPS data can be stored in the radio's memory at set intervals.

Bluetooth®

Bluetooth enables wireless audio and data transfer between compatible devices. The NX-3000 supports Bluetooth Headset Profile (HSP) for voice calls with Bluetooth headsets and Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP) for communication with peripheral devices.

Text Messaging

The NX-3000 Series supports sending and receiving text messages over digital protocols. These can be simple status messages or short text messages for relaying information. FM analog also supports text messaging.

Over-the-Air Programming (OTAP) and Over-the-Air Alias (OAA)

OTAP allows remote, simultaneous configuration data writing to subscriber units in NXDN mode via wireless communications, managed by OTAP Manager Software (KPG-180AP). OAA in NXDN systems displays caller ID on the radio display, even if the ID is not configured, useful for roaming users.

Secure Radio - Safe Staff

Maintaining Confidentiality

Optional 56-bit DES encryption, 256-bit AES encryption for digital protocols, and 40-bit ARC4 encryption for DMR ensure conversation privacy.

Tough & Robust

KENWOOD radios undergo stringent tests for drop, immersion, splash, dust, and extreme temperatures, simulating harsh operating conditions. Portable radios meet IP54, IP55, and IP67 standards, while mobile radios feature IP54 protection. All radios comply with MIL-STD 810 C to G standards.

Detecting the Status of Remote Workers

Functions to protect worker safety include:

  • Emergency Button: A prominent orange button on portables signals an emergency. Can be assigned to other buttons.
  • Lone Worker: If the radio is inactive for a set period, it emits a 2-beep alert. No response triggers Emergency Mode.
  • Activity Detection: Triggers Emergency Mode via Man-down Detection (tilting), Stationary Detection (no motion), or Motion Detection (abnormal movement).

Conventional and Trunking Systems Compatible with the NX-3000 Series

Designed to Go with All Sizes and Shapes: Operation within a digital protocol extends channel capacity. The NX-3000 radios fit various systems, from single-site conventional digital systems (NXDN or DMR) to wide multi-site trunking systems using IP networking (NXDN Type-C and Gen2) covering campuses, plants, or even nationwide.
