NUX NTU-3 MKII FLOW
Compact Guitar Tuner Pedal
Overview
The NUX NTU-3 MKII FLOW is a compact tuner featuring a bright, high-definition display. It offers four distinct tuning modes, including a unique guitar-compensated mode, and three different display options. The pedal also allows for easy switching between bypass modes.
Pedal Layout and Controls
The pedal is designed with intuitive controls for guitarists:
- Audio Input: Connect your guitar or other instruments here.
- Audio Output: Connect to your amplifier or other effects pedals.
- Footswitch: Engages or disengages the tuner effect.
- 9V Power Input: Connect a 9V, center-negative AC adapter.
- MODE/A4 Button:
- Short press to cycle through tuning modes (Chromatic, Guitar-Standard, Guitar-Compensated, Bass).
- Long press to enter A4 setting mode. Short press to adjust the A4 frequency (430-450Hz range). Long press again to exit A4 setting mode.
- DISPLAY Button:
- Short press to switch between three display modes: Strobe, 2 Arrow Mode, and a third Arrow Mode.
- Press and hold for 5 seconds to reset all settings to factory defaults.
- Toggle Switch: Selects the bypass mode.
Bypass Modes
The NTU-3 MKII FLOW offers flexible bypass options:
- TB (True Bypass): This circuit ensures that when the tuner is bypassed, the output signal remains unaffected. When the tuner is engaged, the output is muted.
- BF (Buffered Bypass): Utilizes a buffer circuit that can help maintain signal integrity, especially in long signal chains. The output is muted when the tuner is engaged.
- BFM (Buffered Bypass Monitor): Operates with the same buffer circuit as BF mode, but crucially, the output signal is not muted when the tuner is engaged. This allows for silent tuning while still hearing your instrument through the amp.
Tuning Modes
Choose from various tuning modes to suit your needs:
- Chromatic: Tuner for the 12-tone equal temperament scale [C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B]. This mode is versatile and can be used for instruments other than guitar or bass, though string numbers are not displayed.
- Guitar-Standard: The standard tuning mode for a 6-string guitar [6E-5A-4D-3G-2B-1E].
- Guitar-Compensated: Inspired by the tuning style of artists like James Taylor, this mode slightly detunes specific strings by a few cents. This adjustment is designed to enhance the natural resonance and harmonic richness of acoustic guitars. The specific detuning for each string is detailed in the chart below.
- Bass: Standard tuning mode for bass guitars [4E-3A-2D-1G, with options for Low B (L) and High C (H)].
Display Modes
Select from three visual feedback modes for tuning:
- Mode 1 - Strobe (Default): Features a meter that indicates pitch. The meter flows downwards when the note is flat [Flat], remains stationary when the note is in tune [In Tune], and flows upwards when the note is sharp [Sharp].
- Mode 2 - Arrow: Displays directional arrows to indicate whether the pitch is sharp or flat.
- Mode 3 - Arrow: Similar to Mode 2, providing arrow-based visual feedback for pitch adjustment.
Compensated Tuning Details
The Guitar-Compensated mode offers precise detuning for enhanced acoustic resonance:
String | Chromatic Mode | Guitar Standard Mode | Guitar Compensation | Bass Mode |
---|---|---|---|---|
1st (E) | -3 cent | |||
2nd (B) | -6 cent | |||
3rd (G) | -4 cent | |||
4th (D) | -8 cent | |||
5th (A) | -10 cent | |||
6th (E) | -12 cent |
Note: The table above primarily highlights the detuning values for the Guitar-Compensation mode. Standard tuning values are implied for other modes.
