DALI® Compatibility
The Lutron HomeWorks Universal DALI® Power Module is DALI-2® certified by the Digital Illumination Interface Alliance® (DiiA®). To ensure compatibility with Lutron DALI® controllers, connected DALI® LED drivers and fluorescent ballasts must be DALI-2® certified and marked. High-quality, high-performance LED drivers and fluorescent ballasts are recommended. DALI-2® certified devices are available from many manufacturers and tested for compatibility. For a complete list, see the DiiA® website at https://www.digitalilluminationinterface.org/products. Devices not listed or marked DALI-2® cannot be considered DALI-2® certified.
The DALI® version-1 standard does not guarantee compatibility. Lutron recommends testing DALI® version-1 devices for compatibility if used. Lutron can perform this testing upon request, with a turnaround time of 6 to 8 weeks after sample receipt. Fees may apply. Contact your Lutron sales representative for more information.
Typical Application
The typical application diagram illustrates the integration of the HomeWorks DALI-2 Power Module within a lighting control system. It shows the module connecting to a QS Link, which interfaces with a Lutron QSX processor. The system also includes wall stations, shade controllers (like Sivoia QS), QS contact closure interfaces, and QS power supplies. The DALI Power Module itself connects to the DALI bus, providing power and control for up to 64 DALI-compliant digital addressable loads. The diagram emphasizes that the module is available for QSX processor systems only.

Wiring Overview and Mechanical Dimensions
The module has clearly labeled terminal blocks for various connections: Programmable CCI, Manual Override CCI, QS Link, and DALI Bus 1. The DALI bus wiring is noted as not being SELV and is treated as mains voltage, potentially allowing it to run within the same sheathing, but requiring adherence to national and local codes for separation. The physical dimensions are approximately 6.375 inches (161.7 mm) in width, 3.5 inches (89.7 mm) in height, and 2.375 inches (60.6 mm) in depth.
Mains Voltage Wiring
Wiring from the distribution to the bus supply requires turning off the breaker at the distribution panel. Line, neutral, and ground wires should be run from a line/hot feed to the DALI® Power Module. For emergency lighting applications, only normal (non-essential) power should be used. When normal power fails, the DALI® Power Module will not power the DALI® bus, causing control gear on emergency feeds to revert to their system failure level. The DALI® Power Module is designed to separate mains wiring from PELV circuits, and users must follow appropriate local and national codes for separation guidelines.
DALI® Bus Wiring
The DALI® Power Module independently supplies power to the DALI® bus, supporting up to 64 DALI®-compliant, digital addressable loads. DALI® wiring is not SELV and is treated as mains voltage. It is crucial to ensure no greater than a 2 V drop between the module and the end of the DALI Bus. The document provides a table for maximum DALI®-compliant bus wire lengths based on wire gauge:
Wire Gauge | Maximum DALI®-compliant Bus Wire Length* |
---|---|
16 AWG (1.5 mm²) | 984 ft (300 m) |
20 AWG (0.75 mm²) | 492 ft (150 m) |
22 AWG (0.50 mm²) | 328 ft (100 m) |
* Indicates the total length of DALI® wires.
QS Link Wiring
The QS Link communicates using IEC PELV wiring and requires adherence to national and local codes for circuit separation and protection. Wiring can be daisy-chained or t-tapped, with a total length not exceeding 2000 ft (610 m). The specifications detail wire gauges and cable types for different link lengths:
QS Link Wiring Length | Wire Gauge | Available from Lutron in one cable:* |
---|---|---|
Less than 502 ft (153 m) | Power (terminals 1 and 2): 1 pair 18 AWG (1.0 mm²) | QS-CBL-LSZH (Low-Smoke Zero-Halogen) GRX-CBL-346S (non-plenum) GRX-PCBL-346S (plenum) |
Data (terminals 3 and 4): 1 pair 22 AWG (0.5 mm²), twisted and screened | ||
502 ft to 2000 ft (153 m to 610 m) | Power (terminals 1 and 2): 1 pair 12 AWG (4.0 mm²) | GRX-CBL-46L (non-plenum) GRX-PCBL-46L (plenum) |
Data (terminals 3 and 4): 1 pair 22 AWG (0.5 mm²), twisted and screened |
* Varies by region, refer to the cable spec. Use one, twisted-screened pair of 20 AWG (0.5 mm²) for the data link (MUX, MUX).
Contact Closure Inputs Wiring
Manual Override CCI Wiring (IEC PELV/NEC® Class 2)
The attached device must provide a closed dry contact closure or solid-state output. The input is miswire-protected up to 36 V-. A jumper is pre-installed in the Emergency Contact Closure Input; removing this jumper activates Manual Override mode by opening the Emergency Contact Closure. Refer to the Emergency Lighting Systems Application Note (P/N 048106) at www.lutron.com for more details.
Programmable Wiring (IEC PELV/NEC® Class 2)
The attached device must provide a dry contact closure, solid-state output, open collector, or active-low (NPN)/active-high (PNP) output. For open collector NPN or active-low outputs, the on-state voltage must be less than 1 V- and sink 3.0 mA. For output collector PNP or active-high outputs, the on-state voltage must be greater than 12 V- and source 3.0 mA. Outputs must remain in their closed or open states for at least 40 msec to be recognized. Contact the manufacturer if there are questions about third-party device compatibility. Input is miswire-protected up to 36 V-.
