Included Components & Overview
The FJ-X2m package includes the FJ-X2m wireless trigger and a USB-A to USB-C cable.
FJ-X2m Overview:
- Group Selection Buttons: Used to select and adjust group settings.
- Charging Port: USB-C port for charging the device.
- Wired Sync Port: 2.5mm port for wired synchronization.
- Test Button: Remotely fires the connected strobe.
- Selection Wheel: Used for navigating menus and adjusting settings.
- Power | Menu Button: Powers the device on/off and accesses the menu.
- Shoe Lock: Secures the trigger to the camera's hot shoe.
- Wireless Signal Indicator: Shows the status of the wireless connection.
- Menu Selection Buttons (1, 2, 3): Navigate and select menu options.
LCD Display
The LCD display shows various settings and information:
- Camera Brand Selection: Displays the currently selected camera brand (e.g., Canon).
- Group Icons (A, B, C): Indicate the active groups.
- TTL / M Group Designations: Shows the mode (TTL or Manual) and power output for each group.
- Selectable Menu Icons: Icons representing different menu options.
- Channel Icon: Displays the current channel.
- Battery Icon Indicator: Shows the remaining battery level.
- Sync Function Icon: Indicates the sync mode (e.g., HSS).
- Audible Beep Icon: Indicates if audible beeps are enabled.
- Modeling Lamp Icon: Indicates the status of the modeling lamp.
- Bluetooth Icon: Shows Bluetooth connectivity status.
Settings Menu:
The Settings Menu allows customization of various functions:
- RT ID# (00-99): Radio Transmitter ID.
- Auto-Off: Configures the auto-off timer (05, 15, 30 Min).
- Bluetooth (On/Off): Enables or disables Bluetooth.
- SYNC-X (On/Off): Enables or disables SYNC-X functionality.
- Screen Brightness: Adjusts the screen brightness (Min, Mid, Max).
- Connectivity Power: Sets power mode (Min, Nor, Max).
- Channel Recommendations (00-31): Provides channel recommendations.
Use the Selection Wheel and Menu Selection buttons to navigate and adjust settings. Press OK to exit.

Warning
- Keep away from fire, water, and moisture. Do not submerge in water.
- Avoid drastic temperature changes.
- Do not overtighten the shoe lock wheel.
- Ensure the FJ-X2m is securely mounted before use.
- Surrounding RF interference may affect performance.
- Do not attempt to modify Westcott products. Contact Westcott for assistance.
- Maximum operating temperature: 32-104°F (0-40°C).
Preparing Your Camera
The FJ-X2m is compatible with various camera brands. Adjust camera settings for optimal performance:
- Set Silent Shutter to OFF.
- Set E-Front Curtain to OFF.
- Set Wireless Mode to ON or OFF (dependent on camera brand/model).
- Set Red-Eye Reduction to ON or OFF (dependent on camera brand/model).
- Set Exposure Compensation to 0 (zero).
- Set White Balance to Daylight, 5500K, or Custom at 5500K (not Auto).
- Manually set Sync type (Front Curtain, Rear Curtain, HSS) if required by your camera model.
- Ensure camera battery level is above 25%.
- Ensure camera contacts are clean and the FJ-X2m is properly seated and aligned.
Getting Started
Charging the FJ-X2m
- Access the USB-C port behind the rubber protection gasket.
- Plug the USB-A to USB-C cable into the FJ-X2m.
- Plug the other end into a 5V power source.
- Estimated charging time is 2 hours.
AC Adapter LED Indicator Light Colors:
- Green: AC Adapter plugged in, no battery or fully charged battery.
- Red: AC Adapter plugged in, battery charging (less than 100%).
Powering On & Off
- Power On: Long press the Power | Menu button for 3 seconds. The wireless signal indicator will flash green.
- Power Off: Long press the Power | Menu button for 3 seconds until the screen turns off.
Test Fire
Press the Test button to remotely fire the FJ400 strobe. The wireless signal indicator LED will illuminate red.
Trigger Settings Lock
Press Menu Selection buttons 1 and 2 simultaneously to lock/unlock current trigger settings.
Settings Menu Navigation
- Long press Menu Selection buttons 2 and 3 to access the Settings Menu.
- Use Group Selection buttons or the Selection Wheel to navigate options.
- Press the Selection Wheel to select highlighted options. Turn the Selection Wheel to adjust settings.
- Press the Selection Wheel or a Group Selection button to confirm.
- Press OK to exit the Settings Menu.
Mounting the FJ-X2m to a Camera
Hot Shoe Mount
- Turn the Shoe Lock dial to the right.
- Slide the FJ-X2m into the camera's hot shoe.
- Turn the Shoe Lock dial to the left to lock. Do not overtighten.
2.5mm PC Port Connection
The 2.5mm port can initiate wired synchronization with third-party strobes and triggers with a synchronization port. Cables sold separately.
Note: The Westcott FJ-XR Wireless Receiver (#4701) has a 3.5mm plug for FJ Wireless Communication with compatible strobes.
Hot Shoe Mounting the FJ-X2m Sony Adapter (#4706)
- Slide the Sony Adapter (sold separately) into the camera's hot shoe with the release button facing the back.
- Loosen the FJ-X2m's Shoe Lock dial and slide the FJ-X2m onto the Sony Adapter.
- Turn the FJ-X2m Shoe Lock dial to the left to lock. Do not overtighten.
Updating Firmware
The FJ-X2m has a USB-C port for firmware updates and charging. Visit fjwestcott.com/firmware for the latest firmware.
Installing the Firmware
- Visit fjwestcott.com/firmware to download the FJ-X2m firmware ZIP file.
- Unzip the file and open the extracted folder.
- Read all files in the extracted folder (README, Changelog).
- Ensure the FJ-X2m is OFF.
- Connect the USB-A to USB-C cable to the FJ-X2m's USB-C port.
- Press and hold Menu Selection button 3 (far-right button below the screen).
- While holding the button, connect the USB-A to USB-C cable to your computer's USB-A port. The Wireless Signal Indicator will turn red when connected.
- Locate the .BIN file on your computer and drag it to the FJ-X2m (external device).
- Once copied, EJECT the external device from the computer.
- Unplug the USB cable from both devices.
- Long press the Power | Menu button on the FJ-X2m to initiate the firmware update.
IMPORTANT:
- If the FJ-X2m does not appear as an external device, disconnect, restart your computer, and try again.
- Ensure the computer has at least 25% power during the update process to avoid potential damage.
- Improperly ejecting the device can render the trigger inoperable.
- Firmware copying may take time. If it halts, close the progress window and retry. Restarting the computer may be necessary for persistent issues.
Warranty
Westcott warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship for ONE (1) YEAR from the date of retail purchase. This warranty covers repair or exchange at Westcott's option.
Warranty Exclusions:
- Damage from accident, abuse, misuse, flood, fire, earthquake, mold, etc.
- Damage from operating the product outside permitted uses.
- Damage from unauthorized modifications.
- Cosmetic damage (scratches, dents).
