Note: Additional materials may be needed for solid surface countertops. Contact the manufacturer.
2.3 Cabinet Requirements
Ensure cabinetry meets requirements for safe installation. The diagram shows dimensions A and B. A is the distance from the top of the cooktop to the bottom of cabinets above, requiring a minimum of 30" (762 mm). This can be reduced to 24" (610 mm) if the cabinet bottom is protected by 1/4" (6.35 mm) flame-retardant millboard covered with 28-gauge sheet metal, 0.015" (0.4 mm) stainless steel, 0.024" (0.6 mm) aluminum, or 0.020" (0.5 mm) copper.
B is the maximum depth for unprotected cabinets above the cooktop, which is 13" (330 mm).
Installation over ovens/microwaves: Only certain models can be installed over ovens/microwaves. Consult the Approved Combination Guide.
Installation of range hood/microwave hood: Follow hood installation instructions for clearance above the cooktop.
2.4 Countertop Requirements
Ensure the countertop meets requirements for safe installation.
WARNING: To reduce ignition risk, install at least 2" (51 mm) from sidewalls and the rear wall.
- The countertop must be level and horizontal.
- Countertop stability must be maintained after the cut-out.
3 Prepare Installation Space
Create the countertop cutout according to instructions. General requirements:
- Cut surface angle must be 90°.
- For multi-layered countertops, secure lateral strips if needed.
- Remove all debris after cutting.
- Follow countertop manufacturer recommendations for protecting cut edges (e.g., heat-resistant foil tape).
- Observe minimum distance of 3/8" (10 mm) between appliance underside and cabinet surfaces.
- The countertop must be heat-resistant up to 140° F (90° C).
- The countertop must be at least 13/16" (20 mm) thick. If not, reinforce with fire/water-resistant material to ensure stability.
- The countertop should withstand loads of approx. 133 lbs (60 kg).
- Confirm the cooktop is level only after installation.
3.1 Flush Mounting
The cooktop can be mounted flush into the countertop.
Notes: Cutout work should be done in a workshop per the diagram. Ensure the cutout edge is clean and precise. Clean and degrease edges with a suitable cleaner, following silicone manufacturer instructions.
Countertop Material Guide for Flush Mounting
Materials must be temperature- and water-resistant.
Countertop Material | Notes |
---|---|
Stone | Suitable for flush mounting |
Plastic, such as Corian® | Suitable for flush mounting |
Solid wood | Only in consultation with the manufacturer. Seal cutout edges. |
Tiled surfaces | Suitable for flush mounting. If necessary, raise support surfaces with heat/water-resistant strips. |
Other Particle board | Only in consultation with the manufacturer. Not suitable for flush mounting. |
3.2 Cutout Dimensions for 30" Cooktops
Refer to these measurements for models CX482611 and CX482612.

3.5 Cutout Dimensions for Flush Mounted 36" Cooktops
Refer to these measurements for models CX492611 and CX492612.
A specific cutout shape is shown, with overall dimensions of 36" + 1/16" (914 + 2 mm) by 19 3/8" ± 1/16" (492 ± 2 mm). Minimum clearances of 2" (51 mm) are required. The diagram also shows a corner radius of R 3/16" + 1/32" (5+1) and a cutout edge thickness of 1/8"-0.02" (3.5-0.5).
3.6 Cabinet Ventilation Requirements
The cooktop MUST be sufficiently ventilated for proper operation. The lower section requires fresh air. Ensure the cabinet design supports adequate ventilation. Requirements:
- Minimum clearance between cabinet rear and kitchen wall, and between countertop surface and upper drawer area.
- An opening at the top rear of the cabinet. The diagram shows a minimum opening of 21 11/16" (550 mm) and a minimum depth of 1 3/4" (45 mm).
- If the minimum clearance of 13/16" (20 mm) is not present at the rear, create an opening on the underside. The diagram shows a minimum opening of 13/16" (20 mm).
- If the cabinet interior is no wider than 29 1/2" (750 mm), make cutouts in the side panels. The diagram shows minimum 4" (105 mm) cutouts.
- If installed in an island or other configuration, ensure sufficient ventilation.
3.7 Combining Several Vario Appliances
1. To combine Vario appliances, the connecting strip VA 420 000/001/010/011 is required (purchased separately). Consider space for the strip when making cutouts. Refer to its installation instructions.
The appliances can also be installed in individual cutouts with a minimum 2" (51 mm) distance between them.
2. To combine appliances with and without appliance covers, use extensions VA 450 110/401/600/800/900 to balance dimension differences if needed.
4 Installation Procedure
Follow these instructions to install the cooktop into the countertop.
CAUTION: Sharp edges. Use protective gloves when installing.
4.1 Installing the Heat Shield
The heat shield must be properly installed when closed cabinets are used to prevent overheating from air recirculation. It is the same width as the cooktop.
CAUTION: Sharp edges. Use protective gloves.
Requirement: Cooktop unpacked. The heat shield is screwed to the bottom for shipping; unscrew the fastening screw.
The heat shield should rotate freely.
4.2 Securing the Cooktop to the Countertop
Secure the cooktop from below using the provided hold-down brackets to prevent slipping.
- Place the cooktop face down on a soft surface.
- Attach hold-down brackets to the underside of the cooktop with short screws (do not tighten).
- Rotate brackets to position the appliance in the cutout.
- CAUTION: Do not let the cooktop drop. Ensure it is supported along the edges when placing it into the cutout. Turn the cooktop over and carefully place it into the countertop cutout.
- Insert clamping screws into the brackets and secure the cooktop to the countertop. Protect delicate countertops with a wooden disk underneath.
- Tighten bracket screws on the cooktop underside.
5 Electrical Connection
Follow these instructions to safely connect your appliance to the electrical supply.
5.1 Electrical Requirements
Ensure general requirements are met. The rating plate with electrical specifications is on the underside of the appliance (see "Rating plate location", Page 11). The junction box must be within 3 feet of the connection and easily accessible for service.
