1. Field of Application

This equipment is personal protective equipment (PPE) used for fall protection. It serves as a rappel backup device for sports activities.

This product must not be pushed beyond its limits, nor be used for any purpose other than that for which it is designed.

2. Nomenclature

The SHUNT consists of the following main parts:

Principal materials: aluminum, stainless steel.

3. Inspection, Points to Verify

Petzl recommends a detailed inspection at least once every 12 months. Record the results on your PPE inspection form.

Before each use:

During each use:

It is important to regularly monitor the condition of the product and its connections to the other equipment in the system. Ensure that all pieces of equipment in the system are correctly positioned with respect to each other.

4. Compatibility

Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the system in your application (compatible = good functional interaction).

Ropes:

The SHUNT works on single or doubled EN 892:2016 or EN 1891:1998 type A ropes:

Warning: Certain ropes can be slippery and reduce the SHUNT's braking effectiveness, for example new ropes, ropes with sheath treatments, wet, frozen, or muddy ropes. Always perform a function test.

Connector:

Make sure that the connector is always loaded on its major axis.

5. Working Principle

The SHUNT slides along the rope. If the cam is loaded, it pinches the rope in the rope channels, and the device locks onto the rope. The cam and the frame must always be able to rotate freely.

Warning: Any pressure or interference on the cam, or on the device, will prevent it from locking. Do not grip the SHUNT with your entire hand.

6. Installing the SHUNT

Follow the installation methods shown in the diagrams.

Function Test: During installation, verify that the device locks on the rope in the desired direction.

Diagram: Shows step-by-step installation of the SHUNT onto a rope and carabiner, followed by a function test demonstrating the locking mechanism.

7. Uses

Rappel Backup: Attach the SHUNT below your descender.

Unlocking Under Load: Pull on the rope below the SHUNT and align it with the axis of the rope.
