Inspection Procedure
Verify that the hood opens and closes as expected, and measure the gap and flush between the hood and the fender on the LH and RH side of the vehicle (Figure 1).
- If the gap and flush are within specifications, discontinue this procedure and use correction code S012511003.
- If the gap and/or flush are not within specifications and/or the hood is not closing or opening as expected, proceed to the Adjustment section.
Adjustment Procedure
- To ensure proper flush between the hood and the fender, as described in the Inspection section: adjust the bump stops and (if necessary) the hood latch (refer to Service Manual procedure 1133040200).
- If no gap adjustment is required, skip to step 11. If gap adjustment is required, continue this procedure.
- Slightly loosen the nuts (x2, 13mm) that attach the hood to the LH hood hinge (Figure 2).
- Repeat step 2 for the RH hood hinge.
- Adjust the position of the hood to ensure proper and equal gap between the hood and the LH and RH fenders, as described in the Inspection section.
- Hand tighten the nuts (x4, 13mm) that attach the hood to the LH and RH hood hinges.
- Close the hood, and verify that the gap between the hood and the fenders is within specifications. Repeat steps 2-5 if necessary.
- Fully torque the nuts (x4, 13mm, torque 27 Nm) that attach the hood to the LH and RH hood hinges.
- Verify that the hood opens and closes as expected after gap adjustment. If necessary, adjust the hood latch (refer to Service Manual procedure 1133040200).
- Use IPA wipes to clean the nuts and washers (x4) that attach the hood to the LH and RH hood hinges, and then allow 1 minute to dry.
- Apply touch up paint to the threaded studs of the hood (x4) and the nuts and washers (x4) that attach the hood to the LH and RH hood hinges.
- NOTE: Thoroughly shake the touch up paint before applying, and allow 5 minutes to dry.
- Close out this document using correction code S022511003.
