Battery Charging
This product is supplied with an automatic battery charger designed for the included batteries. An automatic battery charger monitors battery condition and adjusts recharge current. It can be left unsupervised during charging.
WARNING: Check the condition of the charger and battery before each charge. Do not charge if damaged; seek advice from Draper Tools.
To charge, remove the battery pack from the tool by pressing the release buttons and sliding it off (Fig. 1). Plug the charger into a 230V/AC 13amp, three-pin socket. The green LED will light to show power. Slide the battery into the charger, ensuring good terminal connection (Fig. 2). After a few seconds, the red LED will light to show charging is in progress.
WARNING: Ensure the battery is connected correctly. Incorrect connection may damage the battery/charger.
When fully charged, the green LED will light.
Important Charging Notes:
- If indicators do not light, unplug the charger and battery.
- Caution: Do not pull the plug by the cord when disconnecting. Grasp the plug firmly.
- When removing the battery from the charger, support the charger and pull the battery out.
- Caution: The charger may be hot after continuous use. Allow a 15-minute rest period before the next charge.
- Batteries will not recharge if warm from use or sunlight. Allow them to cool first.
- If the red indicator flickers rapidly, check for foreign objects in the charger slot. If none are found, the battery or charger may be malfunctioning. Allow to normalise and try again. Contact Draper Tools if the fault persists.
How to make the batteries perform longer:
- Recharge batteries before they are completely exhausted.
- Stop using the tool when power weakens and recharge the battery. Continuing to use an exhausted battery can cause damage.
- Avoid recharging at high temperatures. Recharge batteries after they have cooled down to prevent deterioration of internal chemical substances and shortened battery life.
Basic Operation
Trigger
Depressing the trigger rotates the chuck (if the direction switch is set correctly). The electronic trigger allows variable speed control; the further it's depressed, the faster the rotation.
Torque Control
The collar (8) adjusts the torque. Settings 1-16 allow setting torque for repetitive screw driving to a consistent depth or strength. This prevents over-tightening or stripping screw heads. Turning collar (10) switches between rotary drilling (symbol: ?️) and percussion drilling (symbol: ?). The hammer feature is used for drilling into masonry.
Speed Selection Switch
Slide the two-speed gearbox selection switch (3) forwards for low speed or backwards for high speed. Important: Never change speed while the chuck is in motion.
LED Worklight
The LED worklight illuminates automatically when the trigger is activated, aiding use in confined or poorly lit spaces.
Belt Clip
The spring steel belt clip (5) is convenient for hanging the drill temporarily. It can be installed on either side of the tool using screw (9.1). Take care not to overtighten and strip the thread.
Drilling Wood and Plastic:
To prevent wood splitting, place a piece of scrap timber under the material to be drilled.
Drilling Masonry:
Start drilling at a low speed to prevent the drill bit from wandering. Once penetration is achieved, fully depress the trigger for maximum speed and hammer power.
Drilling Metal:
Metals like sheet metal, aluminium, and brass can be drilled. Mark the drilling point with a centre punch to help the drill bit locate.
Screwdriving:
Match the screwdriver bit to the screwhead size to prevent slipping or damage. To remove screws, select the correct position on collar (10), move the direction switch to reverse, apply pressure to the screwhead, and depress the trigger slowly.
Maintenance
Maintenance
Regular inspection and cleaning reduce the need for maintenance and keep the tool in good working condition. Ensure the motor is correctly ventilated during operation. Avoid blocking air inlets and vacuum ventilation slots regularly.
Battery Usage Notice
To increase charging capacity and useful battery life, discharge the remaining power first and then recharge the battery pack for 24 hours on its first charge or after more than a month's storage.
- Charging Environment: 5°C–30°C
- Discharging Temperature: -20°C–65°C
- Storage Temperature: -20°C–65°C
The battery should only be used/charged when its temperature is between 5°C and 30°C. Batteries may need warming up or cooling down to prevent damage to internal components.
Storage Instructions: If a battery pack is at a low temperature (under -20°C), its chemical solutions solidify, increasing resistance and making charging difficult. If at a high temperature (above 65°C), chemical solutions vaporize, potentially making the battery ineffective quickly. Regular inspection and cleaning are essential. Ensure the motor is well-ventilated; avoid blocking air inlets. After use, remove the battery pack and vacuum ventilation slots.
