Important Safeguards
When using an electrical appliance, especially when children are present, basic safety precautions should always be taken, including the following:
- Read all instructions.
- Always unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before cleaning or handling.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or lever.
- To protect against electric shock, do not immerse cord or plug or place any part of the toaster in water or other liquids. See instructions for cleaning.
- This appliance should not be used by or near children or individuals with certain disabilities. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, after the appliance has malfunctioned or has been dropped, dropped in water or damaged in any way, or if it is not operating properly. Return the toaster to the store or retailer where purchased for examination, repair or adjustment.
- The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Cuisinart may cause injury.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Do not let cord hang over the edge of the table or countertop or touch hot surfaces.
- Do not place toaster on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.
- Do not use this toaster for anything other than its intended use.
- Oversized foods, metal foil packages or utensils must not be inserted in the toaster, as they may involve a risk of fire or electric shock.
- A fire may occur if the toaster is covered or touching flammable materials, such as curtains, draperies or walls, when in operation. Do not operate under wall cabinets.
- Do not attempt to dislodge food when the toaster is plugged into an electrical outlet.
- To avoid possibility of fire, do not leave toaster unattended during use.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY
Special Cord Set Instructions
A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. Longer extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.
If a long extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance, and the longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.
NOTICE: This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.

Functions
The BREAD TYPE function is designed to toast or defrost (with DEFROST) various breads based on their unique properties. Some breads require more or less time due to density, sugar content, and other factors.
- WHITE BREAD: For soft, white sandwich breads made from refined white flour.
- BAGEL: Toasts bagels to perfection by reducing heat on one side, toasting the cut side slightly more. A directional icon on top indicates correct bagel insertion (cut side outward).
- WHOLE WHEAT: For dense, nutrient-rich breads made from 100% whole grains or mostly whole grains (e.g., whole wheat, sprouted grains, rye, oat, flax).
- ENGLISH MUFFIN: Adds extra time to the toasting cycle for denser bread types.
- WAFFLE: For waffles. Select DEFROST for frozen waffles.
- PASTRY: For toaster pastries. Filling can become very hot before the pastry surface browns. Use the lightest setting and monitor closely.
- DEFROST: A longer cycle to first defrost and then toast bread to the desired shade. LED indicator illuminates.
- SINGLE SLICE: Evens toasting for one slice, side to side. LED indicator illuminates.
- QuickView™: Allows checking toasting progress by momentarily lifting the bread without interrupting the cycle. Can be activated up to three times per cycle; more use may affect toast color.
- +30 SECS: Adds 30 seconds to the toasting cycle. If selected during the cycle, the +30 Secs LED flashes, the current countdown pauses, and the original cycle resumes afterward. If selected after the cycle, the +30 Secs LED lights, the shade setting disappears, and the indicator flashes during the new toasting cycle.
Tips and Hints
Notes on Browning
Toasting is a combination of cooking and drying. Moisture level affects toasting time.
- For lighter, airier, or slightly dry breads, use a lower setting than normal.
- For very fresh bread, use the Whole Wheat setting.
- For breads with uneven surfaces (English muffins, crumpets), use the English Muffin setting.
- For thicker, denser, or very fresh breads, use a higher browning setting. Very thick slices may require a second cycle.
- When toasting raisin or other fruit breads, remove any loose fruit pieces before placing into the toaster to prevent them from falling into the toaster or sticking on the guide wires.
- Before toasting bagels, slice into two equal halves.
Frozen Bread, Waffles, Pancakes, French Toast and Bagels
Use the Defrost function to defrost, then toast these items. Insert the frozen item, select the desired function, select Defrost, choose the desired browning setting (1-7), and press the TOAST/CANCEL bar to start.
For Best Results
- Never force foods into the toasting slots; they should fit freely between the guide wires.
- Do not toast buttered breads, as this could create a fire hazard.
- Uneven toasting is usually due to inserting slices of uneven thickness.
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Always allow the toaster to cool completely before cleaning.
- Always unplug the toaster from the electrical outlet before cleaning.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners. Simply wipe the exterior with a clean, damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
- To remove crumbs, slide out the crumb tray and discard crumbs. Wipe clean and replace. Never operate the toaster without the crumb tray in place.
- To remove any pieces of bread remaining in the toaster, unplug the toaster, turn it upside down, and gently shake. Never insert any hard or sharp instruments into the slots, as this could damage the toaster and cause a safety hazard.
- Never wrap the cord around the outside of the toaster. Use the cord storage cleats on the underside of the toaster.
- Any other servicing should be performed by an authorized service representative.
