Special Cord Set Instructions
A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. Longer extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.
If a long extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance, and the longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.
Notice: Polarized Plug
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.

Functions Explained
- QuickView™: Allows checking toasting progress without interrupting the cycle. Lift the high-lift lever to temporarily raise and view bread, then release to lower and continue toasting.
- Bagel: Designed to toast bagels by reducing heat on one side of the slot, toasting the cut side slightly more. A directional icon indicates the correct way to insert the bagel (cut side should always face away from the center of the slots).
- Defrost: A longer cycle that first defrosts and then toasts frozen bread to the desired browning shade.
- Reheat: Reheats bread without browning or toasting. When the dial is in the REHEAT position, DEFROST and BAGEL functions cannot be selected.
- Front Crumb Tray: A removable tray located at the front to collect crumbs for easy cleaning. Pull out, empty, and replace.
- Rear Cord Stuff Box: Stores excess cord at the rear of the unit to keep countertops neat. Push excess cord into the hole on the back and slide into the upper hole position to secure.
- Cancel: Stops the toasting process and automatically lifts the bread. The indicator light around the button illuminates when the toaster is running.
Tips and Hints
Notes on Browning
Toasting is a combination of cooking and drying. Differences in moisture level affect toasting times.
- For slightly dry bread, use a lower setting than normal.
- For very fresh bread or whole-wheat bread, use a higher setting than normal.
- Breads with uneven surfaces (e.g., English muffins) require a higher toast setting.
- Thickly cut pieces take longer to toast due to higher moisture content; very thick pieces may require two cycles.
- When toasting raisin or fruit breads, remove loose fruit from the bread surface before toasting to prevent pieces from falling into the toaster or sticking to guide wires.
- Before toasting bagels, slice them into two equal halves.
Frozen Bread, Waffles, Pancakes, French Toast, and Bagels
Use the Defrost function. Insert the frozen item, select Defrost, choose the desired browning setting (1-7), and press the lever to start.
Toaster Pastries
Exercise caution with toaster pastries; the filling can become very hot before the pastry surface browns. Start with the lightest setting. Never leave toaster pastries unattended while toasting or warming.
For Best Results
- Never force foods into the toasting slots; they should fit freely between the guide wires.
- Do not place buttered breads in the toaster, as this could create a fire hazard.
- Uneven toasting is usually due to inserting slices of uneven thickness.
Single-Slice Toasting
If toasting a single slice, set the heat selector to a lighter setting than normal. The toaster heats the entire chamber for two slices; lowering the heat for a single slice prevents over-toasting.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Always allow the toaster to cool completely before cleaning.
- Always unplug the toaster from the electrical outlet before cleaning.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners. Wipe the exterior with a clean, damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
- To remove crumbs, slide out the crumb tray, discard crumbs, wipe clean, and replace. Never operate the toaster without the crumb tray in place.
- To remove any remaining bread pieces, turn the toaster upside down and gently shake. Never insert hard or sharp instruments into the slots, as this could damage the toaster and create a safety hazard.
- Never wrap the cord around the outside of the toaster. Use the rear cord stuff box for excess cord length.
- Any other servicing should be performed by an authorized service representative.
