LEXIN NOVUS Motorcycle Bluetooth Intercom

This document provides instructions for the LEXIN NOVUS Motorcycle Bluetooth Intercom.

The NOVUS intercom is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 and supports the following profiles: Headset Profile (HSP), Hands-Free Profile (HFP), and Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP).

You can pair it with commercially available Bluetooth devices.

NOVUS utilizes "Mesh 3.0" technology, allowing you to choose from 10 channels for open mesh and group mesh communication.

Speakers

Includes 40mm high-quality stereo helmet speakers. The detachable speaker microphone is compatible with most full-face, system, and jet helmets. The thin, high-quality speakers provide clear call quality. The microphone uses CVC and DSP noise cancellation technology to reduce wind and ambient noise, offering top-tier performance.

Battery Care

Storing the device with a low battery can cause the internal battery to degrade quickly. Always charge the device after use and before storage. For long-term storage, charge it periodically (approximately once a month).

Battery

Features a large 800mAh battery, providing up to 18 hours of music playback or 13 hours of continuous talk time, with over a week of standby time.

Caution: Regarding the use of mobile phones or communication devices while riding a motorcycle, please confirm the laws and regulations of your region beforehand.

Installation Instructions

Bracket Installation

Mounting Bracket (Screw Mount):

  1. Attach the mounting bracket to the inside of the helmet shell between the padding.
  2. Secure the bracket base to the mounting bracket using the screws.

Note: Depending on the helmet's size and shape, you may need to use the included bracket rubber pads to adjust the thickness. You can also use the bracket plastic pads to increase thickness. If using plastic pads, use the longer screws.

Insert the mounting bracket between the helmet shell and the interior padding on the left side, then secure the bracket base to the mounting bracket with screws.

3M Double-Sided Tape Bracket Mount:

  1. If you prefer not to use the screw-mounted bracket, use the 3M double-sided tape bracket.
  2. Before applying the tape, thoroughly clean the helmet surface to remove any oil and press firmly.
  3. Wait at least 24 hours before using the device after mounting.

Note: We recommend using the screw-mounted bracket. LEXIN is not responsible for any damage caused by using the double-sided tape mount.

Intercom Unit Installation and Removal

Installing the Intercom Unit:

  1. Align the two cylindrical parts on the back of the NOVUS unit with the corresponding holes in the bracket.
  2. Slide the unit downwards onto the bracket until it clicks securely into place.

Removing the Intercom Unit:

  1. Press the lower right side of the bracket.
  2. Slide the unit towards the larger circular hole (top left) to detach it.

Speaker Installation

Note: Attach the speaker with the shorter wire to the left side of the helmet and the speaker with the longer wire to the right side. The speakers should be placed inside the helmet. If the helmet's ear pockets are deep, use the speaker pads to position the speakers closer to your ears.

  1. Attach the Velcro to the helmet where the speaker will be mounted.
  2. Securely attach the speaker to the Velcro. Use speaker pads if the ear pockets are deep.
  3. Tuck the wires into the helmet's shell and padding.

Microphone Installation

Note: Use the wireless microphone for full-face helmets and the boom microphone for open-face helmets. Choose the microphone that best suits your preference and helmet type.

Wireless Microphone Installation:

  1. Find a suitable position on the center of the helmet and attach the microphone's Velcro.
  2. Attach the wireless microphone to the Velcro.
  3. Connect the microphone to the speaker connector. Ensure the connector's mark faces forward.

Boom Microphone Installation:

  1. Attach the Velcro to the left side of the helmet.
  2. Align the white triangle arrow on the microphone with the opening.
  3. If necessary, attach the microphone holder to secure the microphone.

Basic Operation

Power On/Off

  • Power On: Press and hold the Volume Dial Button for approximately 3 seconds. The device will announce the battery level.
  • Power Off: While the device is on, press and hold the Volume Dial Button for approximately 1 second.

Reset

In standby mode, press and hold the Intercom Button and the Volume Dial Button for approximately 7 seconds to reset and clear Bluetooth connections. If FM is on during the long press, do not release your hand until the red LED flashes, indicating the reset is complete.

Battery

Charge the NOVUS for at least 3 hours before the first use. Use the included USB cable to connect to a charger or computer. A DC 5V-2A charger is recommended; do not use higher-rated chargers. The red LED will flash during charging and turn solid blue when fully charged. Full charging takes approximately 2.5 hours.

Battery level is indicated by five levels: 100% → 80% → 50% → 30% → Battery Low.

Note: At Battery Low, the device can still be used for approximately 1-1.5 hours. It will provide notifications every 5 minutes.

LED Indicator Status

  1. LED On: While the device is on, double-press the MESH button to turn the LED indicator on.
  2. LED Off: While the device is on, double-press the MESH button to turn the LED indicator off.
  3. Emergency SOS Strobe Mode: While the device is on, press and hold the Intercom Button for approximately 15 seconds to activate the emergency SOS strobe mode. Press and hold again to turn it off.

Bluetooth Device Connection

Note: The NOVUS can connect to two smartphones and two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. It can maintain connections with two smartphones and one Bluetooth device at the same time (simultaneous operation is not supported). Once paired, devices will be recognized automatically within range. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your devices. For smartphone connections, press the Volume Dial Button once for automatic connection. Resetting the device will disable automatic connection.

Smartphone Connection

  1. With the device powered off, press and hold the Volume Dial Button for about 5 seconds until the LED indicator flashes red and blue and an announcement is made, indicating pairing mode.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone and select NOVUS from the list of available devices.
  3. If prompted for a PIN or passcode, enter "0000".
  4. Confirm successful pairing on your smartphone.

Note: The NOVUS will flash a blue LED and announce when pairing is complete.

Connection Recovery

If the connection to your smartphone is lost after pairing, press the Volume Dial Button once to reconnect.

GPS Device Connection

With the device powered off, press and hold the Volume Dial Button for about 5 seconds until the LED indicator flashes red and blue and an announcement is made, indicating pairing mode. Once paired, the blue LED will flash, and you will hear GPS navigation prompts.

Smartphone Calls

  • Answering Calls: Press the Volume Dial Button once to answer an incoming call.
  • Ending Calls: During a call, press the Volume Dial Button once to end the call.
  • Rejecting Calls: When a call comes in, press the Volume Dial Button twice to reject it.
  • Answering a Second Call: When a second call comes in, press the Volume Dial Button twice to answer it.
  • Rejecting a Second Call: When a second call comes in, press the Volume Dial Button twice upwards to reject it.
  • Activating Siri/Voice Commands: In standby mode, press the Volume Dial Button twice to activate Siri or other voice assistants.

Music and Volume Adjustment

Volume Adjustment

  1. During Music Playback/FM Radio/Bluetooth Intercom/Phone Call:
    • Adjust volume by clicking the Volume Dial Button or pressing and holding it.
    • Volume Up: Click the Volume Dial Button upwards once to increase volume. Press and hold upwards to adjust continuously.
    • Volume Down: Click the Volume Dial Button downwards once to decrease volume. Press and hold downwards to adjust continuously.
  2. Mesh Intercom Volume Adjustment: This is limited to 8 levels.
    • Mesh Intercom/Music/Navigation Volume Up: Press and hold the Volume Dial Button upwards to increase volume.
    • Mesh Intercom/Music/Navigation Volume Down: Press and hold the Volume Dial Button downwards to decrease volume.

Note: In Mesh Intercom Listening Mode, you can listen to music or navigation while communicating via Mesh Intercom.

Play/Pause

  • Play: In standby mode, press the Volume Dial Button once to play music.
  • Pause: While music is playing, press the Volume Dial Button once to pause it.

Track Change

  • Next Track: During music playback, double-click the Volume Dial Button upwards.
  • Previous Track: During music playback, double-click the Volume Dial Button downwards.

Note: To enjoy audio from your smartphone at maximum volume, ensure the smartphone's volume is also set to maximum.

Music Sharing (2 Devices)

  1. Step 1: While NOVUS 1 is playing music, press and hold the Intercom Button and Volume Button simultaneously for one second. The LED will flash red and blue, indicating music sharing mode has started.
  2. Step 2: With NOVUS 2 in standby mode, press and hold the Intercom Button and Volume Button simultaneously for one second. The LED will flash red and blue, and it will automatically search for NOVUS 1. Once connected, it will play NOVUS 1's music.

Ending Music Sharing

During music sharing, press and hold the Intercom Button and Volume Button simultaneously on either device for one second to end the music sharing session.

Mesh Communication

Mesh Talk with One Button

When Mesh Communication mode is activated, devices automatically connect with nearby NOVUS units for communication. The default channel is Channel 1.

Activating Mesh Communication Mode:

In standby mode, click the MESH button once to enter Mesh Communication mode. The green LED will light up, and an announcement will confirm activation.

Exiting Mesh Communication Mode:

While in Mesh Communication mode, click the MESH button once. The blue LED will flash, and an announcement will confirm exit.

  • Clicking the MESH button once enters Mesh Communication mode. The green LED lights up, and an announcement is made.
  • Clicking the MESH button once exits Mesh Communication mode. The blue LED flashes, and an announcement is made.

Setting Mesh Communication Channels:

  1. Step 1: In standby mode, press and hold the MESH button for approximately 2 seconds to enter channel setting mode. An announcement will be made.
  2. Step 2: Click the MESH button once to adjust the channel. You can select channels 1 through 10. Channel numbers will be announced.
  • Press and hold the MESH button for about 2 seconds to set the channel. An announcement is made (Step 1).
  • Click the MESH button once to adjust the channel and announce it (Step 2).

Note: If no operation is performed for 10 seconds, the channel setting will automatically exit.

Note: The next time you enter Mesh Communication mode, it will automatically connect to the previously saved channel.

Mesh Communication Reset:

In standby mode, press and hold the MESH button for approximately 8 seconds. If the LED flashes red, the reset is complete. This clears the Mesh Communication channel records and resets to Channel 1.

  • Press and hold the MESH button for about 8 seconds. The LED flashes red, resetting to Channel 1.

Leader Mode and Universal Function

Mesh Communication Leader Mode

Activating Leader Mode (Mute Group Mics): In Mesh Communication standby mode, press and hold the Intercom button for about 3 seconds to mute the microphones of other group members.

Muting/Unmuting Your Microphone:

In Mesh Communication standby mode, press the Intercom button once to mute or unmute your microphone.

Note: Newly added group members' microphones are muted by default. Follow the instructions to unmute your microphone.

Universal Function

The NOVUS supports 1-to-1 calls in Bluetooth Intercom mode.

Audio Priority:

The NOVUS manages audio playback priority as follows (from highest to lowest priority):

  1. Mobile Phone
  2. Intercom Call
  3. Music/GPS Navigation

Note:

  • Audio with lower priority will be interrupted by audio with higher priority. For example, if a phone call comes in during an intercom call, the intercom call will be interrupted to handle the phone call.
  • The priority order may vary depending on the smartphone model.

LEXIN Product Pairing

The NOVUS can be paired with other LEXIN products such as the LEXIN B4FM, LEXIN G16, LEXIN FT4PRO, and LEXIN GTX. The pairing procedure is the same. We will use the LEXIN B4FM as an example.

Entering Pairing Mode:

In standby mode, press and hold the NOVUS Intercom Button for about 2 seconds. The LED will flash red and blue, and an announcement will be made, indicating pairing mode. Turn on the B4FM and press and hold its Intercom button to enter pairing mode.

  • Press and hold the NOVUS Intercom Button for about 2 seconds. The LED flashes red and blue.
  • The device enters pairing mode.
  • Press and hold the Intercom Button on the other device to enter pairing mode.

Pairing Complete:

Once in pairing mode, the NOVUS automatically searches for and pairs with devices. After successful pairing, all intercoms will flash a slow blue LED.

  • Pairing complete.
  • The LED flashes blue slowly.
  • The LED flashes blue slowly.

Initiating Intercom Communication:

After successful pairing, press the Intercom button once on either device to initiate intercom communication. The NOVUS will flash a purple LED, while other LEXIN intercoms will flash red and blue LEDs.

  • Initiate intercom communication.
  • The purple LED flashes on the NOVUS.
  • The LED flashes red and blue on other LEXIN intercoms.

Ending Intercom Communication:

During intercom communication, press the NOVUS Volume Dial Button once, or press the Intercom button once on another LEXIN intercom to end the communication. The LED will flash blue.

  • Press the Volume Dial Button once to end intercom communication. The LED flashes blue.

Pairing with Other Manufacturer's Intercoms

Note: For pairing with LEXIN ET COM, follow the instructions in "Pairing with Other Manufacturer's Intercoms" below.

Pairing with Other Manufacturer's Intercoms:

  1. Step 1: In standby mode, press and hold the NOVUS Intercom Button for about 2 seconds. The LED will flash red and blue. An announcement will confirm pairing mode.
  2. Step 2: Turn on the other manufacturer's intercom and enter pairing mode.
  3. Step 3: After successful pairing, the NOVUS LED will flash blue, and an announcement will be made.
  4. Step 4: After pairing is complete, double-click the NOVUS Intercom Button. After a few seconds, the purple LED will flash, enabling intercom communication.
  5. Step 5: During intercom communication, click the NOVUS Volume Dial Button once, or double-click the Intercom Button to end the intercom communication. The LED will flash blue.

FM Radio

FM Radio On/Off

  • FM Radio On: In standby mode, press and hold the Volume Dial Button and Intercom Button simultaneously for 1 second.
  • FM Radio Off: While the FM radio is playing, press and hold the Volume Dial Button and Intercom Button simultaneously for about 1 second.

Scanning for Stations

  • Scan Up: After activating FM radio, turn the Volume Dial Button upwards twice to scan for FM channels.
  • Scan Down: After activating FM radio, turn the Volume Dial Button downwards twice to scan for FM channels.

  • FCC Regulations: This product complies with FCC (Federal Communications Commission) rules and has the CE mark.
  • Technical Regulations Mark: This product has been certified according to Japan's Radio Law technical standards.

Warranty Policy

NOVUS is an electronic device composed of precision parts. Please read "Precautions for Use" carefully before use.

  • Storing the device with a low battery can cause the internal battery to degrade quickly. Always charge the device after use and before storage. For long-term storage, charge it periodically (approximately once a month).
  • Do not use adapters other than the specified ones.

Warranty Terms

  • The warranty period for this product is one year from the date of purchase. LEXIN will provide free repair, product exchange, or exchange with an equivalent product for manufacturing defects or material failures within this period, at LEXIN's discretion.
  • However, the warranty does not cover failures due to misuse, accidents, unauthorized repairs, or modifications. Failures due to natural disasters are also not covered.
  • Speaker microphones and other accessories are considered consumables and have a warranty period of 6 months. LEXIN is not responsible for loss, degradation, or connection issues that occur during the warranty period or use.
  • LEXIN is not liable for any direct or indirect damages (accidents, injuries, loss of time, inconvenience, loss of profit, incidental expenses) resulting from product failure.
  • Products with significant external damage, cracks, or cosmetic issues are not covered by the warranty.
  • To request warranty repair, please email us at [support email address].
  • Even within the warranty period, some repairs may be subject to charges.
  • Damage caused by water ingress is not covered by the warranty under any circumstances.
