Veridian Healthcare Temple Touch Mini Thermometer 09-330/09-331 User Manual

Veridian Healthcare Temple Touch Mini Thermometer

Model: 09-330 / 09-331

Introduction

Thank you for purchasing a Mini Temple Thermometer. Please read these instructions carefully to ensure proper use and safe operation of your thermometer.

The Temple Touch Thermometer works by measuring the heat flow from the blood vessels to the skin. That measurement is then converted to a comparable body temperature.

Key Components:

  • Digital Display: Shows temperature readings and status symbols.
  • Power Button: Used to turn the unit on/off and change modes.
  • Probe Sensor: The part that touches the skin to measure temperature.
  • Battery Compartment: Houses the AAA batteries.

Diagram Description: A visual representation shows the thermometer with labels pointing to the digital display, power button, probe sensor, and battery compartment. An accompanying graphic illustrates heat flow from blood vessels beneath the skin to the surface.

Quick Start Tips

  1. Press and release the [Power Button], wait 2 seconds.
  2. Hold the unit firmly to the temple until a long single beep is heard (approximately 6-8 seconds).
  3. Results will be displayed on the screen.
  4. Wait one minute before taking a new measurement.
  5. To alternate between °F and °C, press and hold the [Power Button].

Important Safety & Usage Information

  • This product is not intended to diagnose or treat any health problem or disease and should not be used as a substitute for the consultation and advice of a physician or other medical professional.
  • Thermometers should only be used under the supervision of an adult.
  • Before use, it is recommended that the patient avoid eating, drinking, smoking, or exercising for at least twenty minutes prior to taking a measurement. Never walk, run, or talk during a measurement.

Normal Body Temperature and Fever

Body temperature can vary from 97°F to 100.0°F (36.1°C to 37.8°C) and still be considered normal. The medically accepted 'normal' body temperature is 98.6°F (37°C). Body temperature is commonly lower in the morning than at any point during the rest of an individual's waking hours.

Temperature readings will vary based on the body location point of the reading. Average 'normal' temperature ranges by measurement location site:

Measurement Site Fahrenheit (°F) Celsius (°C)
Forehead 97.0°F - 100.0°F 36.1°C - 37.8°C
Oral 97.0°F - 100.0°F 36.1°C - 37.8°C
Rectal 97.3°F - 100.4°F 36.3°C - 38.0°C
Axillary 95.4°F - 99.0°F 35.2°C - 37.2°C

A fever is defined as a body temperature that is elevated above the normal for that person. It is important to determine what is normal for an individual before determining if a fever is present. Tracking an individual's temperature on a consistent basis, at the same body site and at the same time every day when the person is well or healthy will help determine an individual's normal temperature.

Guidelines for Temple Measurements

This thermometer is designed to measure the temperature at the forehead, in proximity to the temple area between the end of the eyebrow and the hairline.

  • Do not place the thermometer on scar tissue, skin disorder, open sores or abrasions, or patients in trauma.
  • Consult your physician when using drug therapies that may elevate skin temperature in the forehead.
  • Do not use on skin exposed to direct sunlight, fireplace heat, air conditioner or fan air flow, or hot/cold compress therapies.
  • Wait at least one minute between measurements to allow the unit sensor to readjust to room temperature.
  • If the thermometer has been stored in an excessively cold or warm environment, allow the thermometer to adjust to the ambient room temperature before use. Performance and operation of this unit may be compromised if operated outside of the specified temperature and humidity operating ranges.

Diagram Description: Illustrations show correct placement of the thermometer on the temple area (between eyebrow end and hairline) and incorrect placement.

Operating Instructions

  1. Press and release the [Power Button] to activate the thermometer.
  2. The unit will beep and the thermometer will perform a self-test, showing all symbols on the display. (See Fig 1 description)
  3. The last measurement taken will show on the display.
  4. Gently place the probe in the center of the temple area between the end of the eyebrow and the hairline. Maintain firm contact with the skin, hold the thermometer in place during the reading, and do not move the thermometer to ensure reliable results.
  5. Do NOT press the power button again. The measurement will start automatically once the probe is in place and will take approximately 6-8 seconds. A running circle will appear on the display indicating the reading is in progress. (See Fig 2 description)
  6. The unit will sound one long beep when the measurement is complete, and the reading will appear on the display. (See Fig 3 description)
  7. To turn the unit off, simply press the [Power Button]. The unit will automatically shut off after approximately one minute.

Note on Countdown: If you take another measurement before 1 minute has elapsed, the device will perform a 10 to 0 countdown to allow the device to reset for a new measurement. DO NOT TRY TO MEASURE DURING THIS COUNTDOWN. If you attempt to measure during the countdown, the device will display the previous result, beep 8 times, and turn itself off automatically.

Figure Descriptions:

  • Fig 1: Shows the thermometer display during its self-test, indicating all symbols are active.
  • Fig 2: Illustrates the display showing a running circle, signifying that a measurement is in progress.
  • Fig 3: Depicts the display showing the final temperature reading after a successful measurement.

Changing Modes - Fahrenheit or Celsius Operation

This unit defaults to a Fahrenheit measurement. To change modes:

  1. Press and hold the [Power Button] for approximately 5 seconds.
  2. The unit will beep, then the display will indicate the self-test screen, the last measurement, and finally will show only the current mode in the upper right corner.
  3. Continue to hold the [Power Button]; the °F or °C will alternate to the desired mode.
  4. Release the [Power Button]. Either proceed with your measurement or press and release [Power Button] to shut the unit off.

Memory Recall

This unit includes a recall of the last measurement taken. When the unit is OFF, press the [Power Button] to turn the unit on, and release. After the self-test, the unit will briefly show the last reading on the display.

Replacing the Battery

  1. Carefully slide the battery cap away from the unit.
  2. Replace the batteries, taking care to match the correct polarity.
  3. Carefully replace the battery cap.
  4. Do not dispose of used batteries in the trash. Consult your local recycling center for the proper way to dispose of batteries in your area. Keep used batteries away from children, pets, and excessive heat.

Troubleshooting / Identifying Display Symbols

The thermometer is designed to display feedback-warnings to ensure proper usage and accurate temperature measurement. When an error appears, the device will beep 5 times and then turn off automatically. In the event of a malfunction or incorrect temperature measurement, the following warnings may be displayed:

Error Symbol Problem/Cause Solution
[HI] The measured temperature is above 107.6°F (42°C). 1. Turn the unit OFF and then ON again. 2. Retake temperature. 3. If it still reads [HI], this indicates the patient has a high fever; seek medical attention.
[LO] The measured temperature is below 95°F (35°C). 1. Turn the unit OFF and then ON again. 2. Retake temperature. 3. If it still reads [LO], this indicates the patient has a low body temperature; seek medical attention.
[Er1] The thermometer is too cold or too hot to operate. 1. Verify that the room temperature is within the product range of 60.8°F - 104°F (16°C - 40°C). 2. Retake temperature.
[Er2] Temperature did not register due to poor contact, patient movement, or poor placement. Turn the unit OFF, wait 2 minutes, turn it ON again, and retake temperature.
[Er3] Unit malfunctioned. Do not use the thermometer - contact Customer Care.
[Low Battery Icon] Low battery - Battery icon displays continuously. Battery is low; enough power remains for approximately 10 measurements. Replace battery soon.
[Drained Battery Icon] Drained battery - Battery icon is the only icon on the display and the unit turns off. Battery is completely expired and must be replaced.
