The front panel of the Singing Machine SML652BK/SML652P features various controls and indicators for operation:

Playback Display: The display can show Song Title, Elapsed Time, Playback Status, Song Total Time, Current Playlist, Record Status, and Lead Vocal Status. Master Volume ranges from 0-20.

Connection

Connecting the Microphone(s)

Connect a microphone into MIC 1 Jack or MIC 2 Jack. Note: Avoid dropping or tapping microphones, as this can damage the mic or speakers. Do not twist the microphone cord, as this can damage the internal wiring.

Connecting the Unit to a TV

To output video, lyrics, and audio to your TV, connect an HDMI cable (not included) from the unit's HDMI Jack (Out) on the rear to the HDMI input on your TV. It is highly recommended to use a TV for the best experience. To display lyrics, play MP4 or MP3+G files via USB.

Connecting to AC Power

Insert the AC power cord into a conveniently located AC outlet (120V, 60Hz). Ensure all other connections are made before connecting to AC power.

Inserting Batteries

Slide the battery door to reveal the compartment. Insert six (6) "C" size alkaline batteries (not included) as indicated. Replace the cover tightly before operating.

Battery Precautions:

Connecting to AUX IN Jack

Connect an external device using a 3.5mm audio cable (not included) to the AUX IN Jack on the rear of the unit. This allows audio to be played through the Singing Machine. It is recommended to set the external unit's volume to 1/3 or lower to avoid distortion. File/track skipping is not possible when using an external device.

Cradle

The unit includes a cradle for holding a smartphone or tablet.

Operation

Voice Effects

Repeatedly press the VOCAL/VOICE EFFECTS Button to select different vocal effects. The display will show the selected effect:

Speaker Lights

When the unit is turned on, the speaker lights activate automatically and synchronize with the sound. Press and hold the LIGHTS/FUNCTION Button for Light mode 2 (light show without sound response). Press and hold the LIGHTS/FUNCTION Button again to turn off the lights.

Bluetooth Mode

Press the Bluetooth Button to enter Bluetooth mode. Press and hold the Bluetooth Button to enter pairing mode. The unit searches for and pairs with previously paired devices. If no devices are found, press and hold the Bluetooth Button again; the indicator will flash blue and red. To disconnect paired devices, press and hold the Bluetooth Button.

Using a Bluetooth Device

  1. Turn on the unit using the [Power Button].
  2. Press the LIGHTS/FUNCTION Button repeatedly to select Bluetooth mode ("bt" displayed).
  3. On your device, enable Bluetooth and search for discoverable devices. Select "Singing Machine".
  4. The Bluetooth indicator will turn solid, and a chime will sound upon successful pairing.
  5. To control playback from the unit, press the [Play/Pause/Enter Button]. Press it again to pause.
  6. Adjust volume using the MASTER VOLUME control on the unit and your Bluetooth device.
  7. Connect microphones and turn them ON.
  8. Adjust the MIC VOLUME control as needed.
  9. Skip tracks using the [Skip Rewind/Down Arrow] or [Skip Fast Forward/Up Arrow] buttons.
  10. RECORD YOUR VOCAL PERFORMANCE: Press the RECORD Button to start recording your voice along with the music. The record indicator will flash. Press the RECORD Button again to stop. Recorded files are saved to the USB drive with a "BT" prefix.
  11. VOCALS: Press and hold the VOCAL/VOICE EFFECTS Button to sing without the lead singer. Press and hold again to resume the lead singer. (Note: This function may depend on the song recording format).
  12. VOICE EFFECTS: Repeatedly press the VOCAL/VOICE EFFECTS Button to select effects like ECHO, FEMALE, MALE, CHIPMUNK, ROBOT, or RADIO. Select OFF for no effect.
  13. Press the [Power Button] to turn the unit off.

Notes for Bluetooth: If prompted for a passcode, enter "0000". Some devices may require selecting "Use as Audio Device". Ensure the distance between the unit and device does not exceed 30 feet/10 meters if the connection is lost.

Playing Songs from the USB

  1. Connect the unit and turn it on using the [Power Button].
  2. Insert a USB flash drive with MP3 or MP4 files into the USB Port.
  3. Press the LIGHTS/FUNCTION Button to select USB mode ("USb" displayed). Press the [Play/Pause/Enter Button] to start playback. Press again to pause, or the STOP Button to stop. If connected to a TV, karaoke videos will play on screen.
  4. It is recommended to connect to a TV for USB playback. Use the [Skip Rewind/Down Arrow] and [Skip Fast Forward/Up Arrow] buttons to navigate through songs.
  5. Adjust volume using the MASTER VOLUME control. If connected to a TV, adjust the TV's volume.
  6. Connect microphones and turn them ON.
  7. Adjust the MIC VOLUME control as desired.
  8. Skip tracks using the [Skip Rewind/Down Arrow] or [Skip Fast Forward/Up Arrow] buttons. You can also press and hold these buttons to skip ahead 10 files/tracks.
  9. Press the STOP Button to stop playback.
  10. RECORD YOUR VOCAL PERFORMANCE: Press the RECORD Button to record your singing with the music. The record indicator will flash. Press RECORD again to stop. Recorded files are saved to the USB drive.

  13. SEARCHING BY GENRE, ARTIST or TITLE (TV only): In USB menu, press the STOP Button to enter search mode ("SEA" displayed). Use [Favor/Navigation Left] or [Playlist/Navigation Right] buttons to select search criteria, then press [Play/Pause/Enter Button]. Use navigation buttons to select letters and songs.
  14. CREATING THE PLAYLIST: Select a song using navigation buttons and press [Playlist/Navigation Right] to add it. "Added" will appear. Repeat to add more songs. You can also press [Playlist/Navigation Right] during playback. Playlists are saved even if the unit is reset.
  15. USING THE PLAYLIST: In USB menu, press the STOP Button to enter search mode. Select "Playlist" and press [Play/Pause/Enter Button]. Use navigation buttons to select and play songs from your playlist. Select "PLAY ALL" to play the entire playlist.
  16. PRIORITY: Select PRIORITY, then use navigation buttons to prioritize songs. Press [Favor/Navigation Left] and [Playlist/Navigation Right] to assign numbers (0001, 0002, etc.). Press [Play/Pause/Enter Button] to confirm. Use navigation buttons to select songs for PLAYALL.
  17. REMOVE: Select REMOVE, then select a song using navigation buttons and press [Play/Pause/Enter Button] to delete it from the playlist.
  18. RM ALL: Select RM ALL and press [Play/Pause/Enter Button] to empty the entire playlist.
  19. CREATING FAVORITES: Select a song using navigation buttons and press [Favor/Navigation Left] to add it to favorites. The icon turns orange. Repeat for more songs. Favorites are stored even if the unit is reset.
  20. USING THE FAVORITES: In USB menu, press the STOP Button to enter search mode. Select the FAVORITE tag using [Favor/Navigation Left] or [Playlist/Navigation Right] buttons. Press [Play/Pause/Enter Button] to view the favorites list and play/edit as with playlists.
  21. Press the [Power Button] to turn the unit off.

Notes for USB Playback: A loading icon will appear while files are loading. The USB mode cannot be accessed until a flash drive is inserted.

Playing Songs from the Recorded Files

  1. Connect the unit to a TV and turn it on.
  2. Press the LIGHTS/FUNCTION Button to select Recordings mode ("rEC" displayed).
  3. Use navigation buttons ([Skip Rewind/Down Arrow] and [Skip Fast Forward/Up Arrow]) to browse recorded files on your USB drive.
  4. Press the [Play/Pause/Enter Button] to start playback or pause.
  5. Adjust volume using the MASTER VOLUME control. If connected to a TV, adjust the TV's volume.
  6. Connect microphones and turn them ON.
  7. Adjust the MIC VOLUME control as desired.
  8. Skip tracks using the [Skip Rewind/Down Arrow] or [Skip Fast Forward/Up Arrow] buttons. You can also press and hold these buttons to skip ahead 10 files/tracks.

Notes for Recorded Files: Recording mode requires a flash drive. Recorded audio files are saved to the USB drive with a "LINEIN" prefix (for AUX IN recordings) or "BT" prefix (for Bluetooth recordings).

Using the AUX IN Jack

  1. Connect the unit and turn it on using the [Power Button].
  2. Connect an external unit to the AUX IN Jack on the rear. This allows audio to play through the Singing Machine. Set the external unit's volume to 1/3 or lower to avoid distortion.
  3. Press the LIGHTS/FUNCTION Button to select AUX IN mode ("AU" displayed).
  4. Adjust volume using the MASTER VOLUME control on this unit or the external device.
  5. Connect microphones and turn them ON.
  6. Adjust the MIC VOLUME control as desired.
  7. VOICE EFFECTS: Repeatedly press the VOCAL/VOICE EFFECTS Button to select effects like ECHO, FEMALE, MALE, CHIPMUNK, ROBOT, or RADIO. Select OFF for no effect.
