Land Rover Off-Road Driving Information
This document provides information on various off-road driving features for Land Rover vehicles, focusing on safety and functionality.
Off-Road Information (4x4i)
The 4x4i function provides access to information about the 4WD system and off-road driving recommendations. Access this by selecting 'Off-Road Information' within the 4x4i additional function.
Key Information Displayed:**
- Wheel Information: Displays current gear selection, suspension travel for vehicles with electronic air suspension, steering wheel angle, and differential lock status. Color-coded arrows indicate wheel slip: yellow for low, orange for medium, and red for high slip.
- Hill Descent Control Aid: Shows current wheel camber and roll angles, with warnings if maximum angles are reached.
- Compass: Displays the vehicle's direction of travel, current latitude, longitude, and altitude.
- Terrain Response System Information: Provides information and recommendations for the currently selected Terrain Response program. Ensure the vehicle is stationary with the ignition on.
Note: The availability of 4x4i functions depends on the vehicle's specification. For more off-road driving tips, visit www.landrover.com.
Vehicle Dimensions
To view vehicle dimensions on the touchscreen, select 'Vehicle Dimensions' from the 'EXTRA FEATURES' menu. Other parameters can be viewed by tapping other icons at the bottom of the screen.
Note: The displayed vehicle height may vary based on the current settings of the electronic air suspension system.
Low Traction Launch
Low Traction Launch is a function designed to improve maneuverability at low speeds and assist in starting from a standstill in adverse conditions. Select 'Low Traction Launch' from the 4x4i additional functions menu on the touchscreen and follow the on-screen instructions.
This function works best with the 'Grass/Gravel/Snow' program selected. It also functions with the 'AUTO' program or other Terrain Response programs.
To activate Low Traction Launch:
- Ensure the vehicle is stationary.
- The accelerator pedal must not be pressed.
- The 'Grass/Gravel/Snow' or 'Comfort' program must be engaged.
Limitations:
- Low Traction Launch operates at speeds up to 30 km/h (19 mph).
- The function automatically deactivates if the vehicle speed exceeds 30 km/h (19 mph) or if the ATPC system engages in its full-function mode.
- It also deactivates if 'Mud/Ruts', 'Rock Crawl', or 'Sand' programs are selected, or if the accelerator pedal is pressed fully (kickdown).
- A malfunction warning will be displayed if the system detects an issue.
Drive Assist
Drive Assist utilizes the surround camera system to aid the driver when moving forward in off-road conditions. It displays the area directly in front of the vehicle, which may not be visible to the driver.
Select 'Drive Assist' from the 4x4i additional functions menu. This feature may not function optimally in certain conditions, such as on steep inclines, in low light, or if the cameras are dirty or obstructed.
Note: Drive Assist deactivates when reverse gear (R) is engaged, displaying the rear-view camera. The function pauses if the vehicle speed exceeds 30 km/h (19 mph) and resumes when the speed drops below 28 km/h (17 mph).
Wade Sensing
Wade Sensing provides information on water depth when driving through water obstacles. The system displays the current water level and the vehicle's maximum wading depth.
Important Safety Information:
- Never attempt to cross floodwaters or water obstacles with a current, as this can lead to serious injury or death.
- Wade Sensing sensors only indicate the water level directly in front of the vehicle and cannot predict sudden changes in depth or assess the overall safety of crossing. The driver is responsible for safe driving and hazard assessment.
- Driving into water from a steep slope may cause rapid water level increases, potentially leading to inaccurate readings from Wade Sensing and severe injury or death.
- Wade Sensing cannot accurately determine water depth if ice or snow is present on the water surface, which could lead to severe injury or death.
- The sensors are located in the lower part of the exterior mirrors. They must be kept clean from snow, ice, mud, and other debris to ensure accurate readings. Dirty sensors can lead to incorrect distance calculations, vehicle damage, or injury.
- If the exterior mirrors are folded, Wade Sensing will still operate, but its readings will be inaccurate, potentially causing vehicle damage or injury.
- For correct functioning, the exterior mirrors must be in their normal (unfolded) position.
System Interactions:
- When Wade Sensing is active, the parking aid, Park Assist, and the automatic Start/Stop system are deactivated.
Operation:
- Select 'Wade Sensing' from the 4x4i additional functions menu.
- Wade Sensing cannot be activated if low-speed cruise control (ATPC) is engaged. See 'USING CRUISE CONTROL FOR DIFFICULT TERRAIN ALL TERRAIN PROGRESS CONTROL (ATPC)'.
- Use the 4X4i SETTINGS menu to configure units of measurement (Metres or Feet).
- The system displays warning messages and an audible signal when the water level approaches the maximum wading depth.
- If the water level exceeds the sensor's limits, the touchscreen display will turn gray, and water levels will no longer be shown.
- Wade Sensing does not operate if the vehicle speed exceeds 10 km/h (6 mph) or the slope angle exceeds 10°. Operation automatically resumes when speed drops below 10 km/h (6 mph) or the slope angle is 10° or less. If the vehicle speed exceeds 30 km/h (19 mph) for 30 seconds, Wade Sensing will automatically deactivate.
