Off-Road Information

This document provides information on Land Rover's off-road driving capabilities and features.

Important Safety Notice

WARNING! Do not operate touchscreen controls while driving. This can distract the driver and lead to accidents, severe injury, or death.

The 4x4i feature provides access to information on the all-wheel-drive (4WD) system and off-road driving recommendations. Select 'Off-Road Information' within the 4x4i feature. See ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS.

NOTES

The availability of 4x4i functions depends on the vehicle's specification.

The touchscreen displays the following information:

  1. Wheel Information Icon: Touch to display information about wheels, suspension, gearbox, and power delivery. This includes the current gear selection for the automatic transmission. A vertical column next to each wheel shows current suspension travel for vehicles with electronic air suspension. The illustration shows the front wheels changing position according to the current steering wheel angle. Differential lock symbols indicate the current locking status for the transmission. If a wheel loses traction, a colored arrow will appear, indicating the wheel with reduced grip. A yellow arrow indicates low-level wheel slip, an orange arrow indicates medium-level slip, and a red arrow indicates high-level slip.
  2. Hill Descent Control Icon: Touch to display the current wheel tilt and roll angles. Warnings are displayed if the maximum permissible angle is reached or exceeded.
  3. Compass Icon: Touch to display the vehicle's direction of travel, including current latitude, longitude, and altitude.
  4. Terrain Response Information Icon: Touch to display information and recommendations for the currently selected Terrain Response program.

NOTES

Ensure the vehicle is stationary and the ignition is on.

Illuminated icons indicate other currently active vehicle functions, such as Hill Descent Control (HDC) and the selected Terrain Response programs.

NOTES

The number of available icons depends on the vehicle's specification.

VEHICLE DIMENSIONS

To display vehicle dimensions on the touchscreen, select 'Vehicle Dimensions' from the 'EXTRA FEATURES' menu. See ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS. Touch another icon at the bottom of the screen to view other parameters.

NOTES

The displayed vehicle height depends on the current settings of the electronic air suspension system.

LOW TRACTION LAUNCH

The Low Traction Launch function improves maneuverability at low speeds and enables starting from a standstill in adverse conditions. The function works best when the 'Grass/Gravel/Snow' program is engaged. See GRASS/GRAVEL/SNOW. Low Traction Launch also operates with the automatic (AUTO) program or the 'Comfort' program. See COMFORT AND USING THE TERRAIN RESPONSE SYSTEM.

Select 'Low Traction Launch' from the 4x4i touchscreen menu. Follow the on-screen instructions to match the vehicle's operating conditions. Touch the 'Activate' button to engage the function. See ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS.

Alternatively, the touchscreen may display a pop-up menu for Low Traction Launch if the following conditions are met and the 'Grass/Gravel/Snow' program is engaged:

In this case, select 'Yes' or 'No' from the pop-up menu. You can also select 'Do not show again' to disable the pop-up menu. Enabling or disabling the pop-up menu can also be done via the '4x4i' settings. See SYSTEM SETTINGS.

Low Traction Launch operates only at speeds up to 30 km/h (19 mph). The function automatically disengages when the vehicle reaches 30 km/h (19 mph). Low Traction Launch also disengages in the following situations:

DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS

Driver Assistance is a feature of the surround camera system that aids the driver when moving the vehicle forward in off-road conditions. It displays the area directly in front of the vehicle that may not be visible to the driver.

Select 'Drive Assist' from the 4x4i additional functions menu. See ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS. Driver Assistance may not function correctly under certain conditions, such as:

Driver Assistance is deactivated when reverse gear (R) is selected. The rear-view camera image is displayed on the touchscreen. The function pauses if the vehicle speed exceeds 30 km/h (19 mph), and a warning is displayed on the touchscreen. Normal operation resumes when the vehicle speed drops below 28 km/h (17 mph).

The touchscreen displays three camera images: one from the front camera and one from each door mirror. To display two images, touch any door mirror camera image to display only the image from the selected door mirror and the front camera. Touch the return icon to display all three images.

WADE SENSING

WARNING! Do not cross floodwaters or any water obstacles with a current. This can lead to serious injury or death.

WARNING! Do not assume that the presence of Wade Sensing depth sensors makes crossing water less dangerous. Wade Sensing depth sensors only determine the water level directly in front of the vehicle. They cannot determine or calculate the water depth around the vehicle or a significant and rapid increase in depth. Therefore, Wade Sensing depth sensors cannot determine if it is safe to proceed. The driver is responsible for ensuring safe driving, assessing potential hazards, and choosing the current direction of travel to avoid vehicle damage or injury.

WARNING! When entering water from a steep slope, the water level may rise sharply. The Wade Sensing depth sensor may not provide the driver with accurate data on the current water level. This could lead to severe injury or death.

WARNING! The Wade Sensing depth sensor cannot determine the exact water level if there is a layer of ice or snow on the water surface. This could lead to severe injury or death.

WARNING! The Wade Sensing depth sensors are located in the lower part of the door mirrors. The sensors must be kept clean from snow, ice, mud, and other contaminants. If contaminated, the sensor may incorrectly calculate the distance, which could lead to vehicle damage or injury.

WARNING! If the door mirrors are folded, the Wade Sensing depth sensors will still operate, but their readings may be inaccurate. This could lead to vehicle damage or injury.

NOTES

For correct functioning of the Wade Sensing depth sensors, the door mirrors must be in their normal (unfolded) position.

The engagement of Wade Sensing depth sensors deactivates the following systems: parking aid, Park Assist, and the automatic intelligent Start/Stop system. Wade Sensing depth sensors are designed to assist the driver in calculating the current depth when crossing water obstacles. The touchscreen displays the currently determined water level and the maximum for the vehicle to cross a ford.

Select 'Wade Sensing' from the 4x4i additional functions menu. See ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS. Wade Sensing depth sensors cannot be activated if low-speed cruise control on various surfaces (ATPC) is engaged. See USING THE ALL TERRAIN PROGRESS CONTROL (ATPC) FOR DIFFICULT TERRAIN.

Use the 4X4i SETTINGS menu to configure the display units for Wade Sensing. Touch the 'Metres' or 'Feet' button. See SYSTEM SETTINGS.

If the water level determined by the system approaches the vehicle's maximum fordable depth, warning messages will be displayed on the touchscreen and instrument panel. An audible warning will also sound.

If the Wade Sensing depth sensor's limit values are exceeded, the touchscreen image will turn gray, and the water level will no longer be displayed.

Wade Sensing depth sensors do not operate if the vehicle speed exceeds 10 km/h (6 mph) or the slope angle exceeds 10°. The sensors automatically resume operation when the vehicle speed drops below 10 km/h (6 mph) or the slope angle does not exceed 10°. If the vehicle speed exceeds 30 km/h (19 mph) for 30 seconds, the Wade Sensing depth sensors will automatically switch off.
