3. Commissioning
3.1 Included in delivery
- smart Gateway
- Power supply
- LAN cable
3.2 Choosing the site for the gateway
- We recommend installing the gateway near a garden window.
- An elevated site can further improve the radio range.
- Only operate the product indoors.
- Secure the product against unauthorised access.
- Do not use in basements or near metal plates or motors.
- Wireless transmission can be disrupted by external influences, such as electric motors or defective electrical devices.
- Wireless range may be restricted in buildings (e.g., by reinforced concrete walls) or in the open (e.g., by high levels of humidity).
- Avoid exposure to moisture and dust, as well as sunlight and other forms of heat exposure.
3.3 Installing the gateway on the wall (optional)
The gateway can be mounted on a wall using two screws (not included in the scope of delivery). The recommended spacing for the screws is 75 mm horizontally (A) and 50 mm vertically (B). The screw head diameter must not exceed 8 mm.
Diagram Description:
View A shows the rear of the gateway with mounting holes and indicates a horizontal distance of 75 mm. View B shows the rear of the gateway with mounting holes and indicates a vertical distance of 50 mm.
Installation Steps:
- Screw the screws into the wall at a distance of 75 mm horizontally and 50 mm vertically.
- Hang the gateway.
3.4 Operating the smart Gateway
An Internet connection is required to install the gateway. The gateway can be connected to the Internet via LAN or Wi-Fi.
- Plug the power supply unit into a mains socket.
- Insert the power supply cable into the socket [socket 4] on the gateway.
- Download the GARDENA smart app from the App Store (Apple) or Google Play. QR codes are provided for app download.
- Follow the instructions in the app.

4.2 Restoring factory settings
The smart Gateway can be reset to factory settings (your GARDENA smart system account remains unaffected).
- Disconnect the gateway from the mains.
- While reconnecting the Gateway to the mains, hold down the reset key [reset key ⑦] until the power LED lights up yellow.
- Release the reset key [reset key ⑦] and start commissioning (see Section 3. COMMISSIONING).
- Wait until the power LED lights up green.
✅ The process can take up to 15 minutes.
5. Maintenance
Cleaning the Gateway:
- Do not use caustic/abrasive cleaning agents.
- Clean the Gateway with a damp cloth (do not use solvents).
6. Storage
Only store the product indoors.

- Disconnect the gateway from the mains.
- Keep the product out of the reach of children.
7. Troubleshooting
Problem: The Internet LED flashes red.
Possible cause: The Gateway does not reach the necessary ports.
Remedy: Outgoing connections from the Gateway must be able to reach the following ports on the Internet and/or on your router. (Normally, no configuration change is required; this list is a reference for advanced users.):
- 53 TCP/UDP (DNS)
- 67/68 UDP (DHCP)
- 123 TCP/UDP (NTP)
- 80 TCP (HTTP)
