Additional Safety Instructions

Electrical Safety

⚠️ DANGER! Cardiac arrest! This product emits an electromagnetic field. Under certain conditions, this field may affect the function of active or passive medical implants. To rule out hazardous situations that could lead to severe or fatal injuries, persons with medical implants should consult their doctor and the implant manufacturer before using the product.

⚠️ DANGER! Risk of electric shock! Do not operate the product if people are in the swimming pool or garden pond. Ensure that the power plug and socket connections are located in an area that cannot be flooded. Protect the plug from moisture.

Connection Cable

⚠️ DANGER! Risk of electric shock! If the mains plug is cut off, moisture can enter the electrical components via the supply cable and cause a short circuit. Never cut off the mains plug (e.g., to route it through a wall).

If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, a service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid any hazard. According to Directive 0620 DIN VDE (German Association of Electrical Engineers), mains cables and extension cords must not have a smaller cross-section than rubber-sheathed cables designated H07RN-F. The cable must be at least 10 m long. The data on the rating plate must correspond to the technical data of the mains supply. If the product is not in use, disconnect it from the mains. Protect the plug and power cord from heat, oil, and sharp edges. Do not use the power cord to carry the pump or when pulling the plug from the socket. A approved safety switch can be used as additional safety device. Consult an electrician. Only use extension cords with earthing contacts to operate the pump. A damaged pump must not be used. Before putting the pump into operation, check that the pump has not been damaged in any way (especially the power cord and plug). If damaged, have the pump checked at a GARDENA service center.

Personal Safety

⚠️ DANGER! Suffocation risk! Small parts can be easily swallowed. Polyethylene bags pose a suffocation risk to small children. Children must be kept at a safe distance during assembly.

⚠️ DANGER! Risk of scalding! If the electronic control is faulty or if the water supply on the suction side of the pump fails, water remaining in the pump can heat up. This creates a risk of injury from escaping hot water. Before putting the pump back into operation, disconnect the pump from the mains supply, allow the water to cool down (approx. 10 to 15 min), and ensure the water supply on the suction side.

Do not use the product if you are tired or ill, or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention during operation can cause serious injury. When connecting the pump to a water supply system, local sanitary regulations must be observed to prevent back-siphoning of non-potable water. Water that has passed through the pump cannot be considered drinking water. When using the product, cover your hair and do not wear scarves or any other loose clothing. Ensure that the pump and the pumped medium are always kept out of reach of children and unauthorized persons. To prevent the pump from running dry, ensure that the suction hose end is always submerged in water. Prime the pump with the liquid to be pumped (approx. 2 to 3 L) before each operation. The pump must be placed on a firm and level surface, protected from flooding. Ensure the pump cannot fall into the water. Very fine sand can pass through the integrated filter (mesh size 0.45 mm) and cause wear on hydraulic system components. For water containing sand, it is recommended to use the GARDENA Pump Pre-filter, Art. No. 1730 (mesh size 0.1 mm). The temperature of the pumped liquid must be between 2 and 35 °C. Store the product at temperatures between 2 and 70 °C.

2. Installation

⚠️ DANGER! Risk of electric shock! Risk of injury from electric current. Before starting to install the product, disconnect it from the mains.

Installation Location [Diagram I1]

Ensure adequate ventilation in the area of the ventilation slots. The pump must have a minimum clearance of 5 cm from the wall. No dirt (e.g., sand or dust) must be drawn in through the ventilation openings. Position the pump so that it is protected from slipping and that a sufficiently large collection container can be placed under the drain screw 1 when draining the pump or system. Install the pump at a safe distance (min. 2 m) from the pumped medium. Install the pump above the level of the pumped water if possible. If not, install a vacuum-tight shut-off device between the pump and the suction hose for cleaning the integrated filter. For permanent system installation, shut-off devices must be installed on the inlet and outlet sides. This is important, for example, for maintenance and cleaning of the pump or for its decommissioning.

Connections

CAUTION! GARDENA connection parts on the suction and discharge sides must only be tightened by hand. Before screwing the suction hose onto the suction inlet, check that the sealing ring is correctly positioned and undamaged. Improper assembly of metal fittings can damage the connection thread. Therefore, screw on connection parts with maximum care. Use only sealing tape to seal metal connection parts.

Suction Side:

Do not use modular water hose components on the suction side! Use a suction hose for a vacuum-proof connection, e.g.:

  • GARDENA Suction Hose Set Art. No. 1411 / 1418
  • GARDENA Suction Hose for Dug Wells Art. No. 1729
  • GARDENA Suction Hose by the meter with GARDENA Hose Clamp Art. No. 7192 / 7191.

For pumped media with very fine dirt, it is recommended to use the GARDENA Pump Pre-filter Art. No. 1730 / 1731 in addition to the integrated filter. To shorten the re-priming time, we recommend using a hose with a non-return valve, which prevents the suction hose from emptying itself after the pump switches off.

Important for Fixed Installation:

For higher suction lifts, use suction hoses with a smaller diameter (3/4").

Discharge Side:

A pressure hose must be used on the discharge side, e.g.:

  • GARDENA Garden Hose (3/4") Art. No. 18113 with GARDENA Connection Set Art. No. 1752.

Important for Fixed Installation:

If the product is permanently installed in an enclosed space, flexible hoses (e.g., reinforced hoses) must be used instead of rigid pipes to connect the operating water supply. Flexible hoses reduce noise levels and prevent damage caused by pressure surges. Install rigid pipes with an upward slope only for the first 2 m. To prevent thread damage, exercise caution and precision when assembling metal fittings.

Connecting the Suction Hose [Diagram I2]

  1. Screw the connection piece 3 onto the suction port 4 and tighten it firmly by hand.
  2. Slide the suction hose 2 onto the connection piece 3 and secure it, for example, with a GARDENA Hose Clamp Art. No. 7192 / 7191.
  3. For suction lifts greater than 4 m, secure the suction hose (e.g., to a wooden stake). This relieves the pump and suction hose of the weight of the water.

Connecting the Discharge Hose [Diagram I3]

The discharge hose can be connected either via the 33.3 mm (G1) thread, the 120° rotatable fitting 5, and/or the horizontal fitting 8.

  1. Screw the union 7 onto the pressure outlet 5/8 and tighten it firmly by hand.
  2. Attach the pressure hose with the hose connector 6 to the union 7.

3. Operation

Operation via the GARDENA smart system App:

The GARDENA smart system App allows you to control all GARDENA smart system products from anywhere and at any time. You can download the free GARDENA smart system App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. A smart Gateway connected to the internet is required for connection. Starting the smart Home & Garden Pump [Diagrams O2/O3]:

⚠️ DANGER! Risk of electric shock! Risk of injury from electric current. Before filling the pump, disconnect the product from the mains.

NOTE: The specified maximum self-priming level is achieved only if the pump is full and the discharge hose is held high directly in front of the discharge outlet during the pump's self-priming phase. This ensures that the pumped medium cannot escape from the discharge hose. If a complete suction hose with a non-return valve is used, it is not necessary to hold the discharge hose high.

  1. Loosen the filter chamber cover 9 using the supplied key A.
  2. Slowly pour the liquid to be pumped into the filter connection 10 (approx. 2 to 3 L) until the water level exceeds the suction inlet or water flows from the horizontal fitting.
  3. For fixed installation: Loosen cover 14 and fill the pump with the pumped liquid until it flows out of the horizontal fitting.
  4. Drain any remaining water from the discharge hose to allow air to escape during the priming and discharge process.
  5. Open the shut-off device in the discharge line (e.g., irrigation accessory, water tap) to allow air to escape during suction.
  6. For fixed installation: If the delivery line cannot be drained due to fixed installation, loosen cover 14. A significant amount of liquid may escape. Keep a sufficiently large container ready for collection.
  7. Tighten the filter chamber cover 9 until it stops.
  8. For non-fixed installation: Hold the discharge hose directly in front of the discharge outlet.
  9. Connect the power cable to the socket. The pump will start after approx. 3 seconds and the green power LED will light up. The suction process may take up to 6 minutes. If no water is pumped even after this time, the pump will switch off and display error 2 (see 6. TROUBLESHOOTING).
  10. Once the pump is continuously pumping water, close the shut-off devices in the discharge line. The pump will switch off automatically approximately 10 seconds after closing the shut-off device. The pump is ready for operation (Standby).

Electronic Control:

The pump is equipped with electronic control. If the pressure drops below the cut-in pressure, the pump starts automatically. When the water supply is no longer required, the pump switches off automatically.

Small Volume Program & Leak Warning:

Leak Warning:

In case of a leak or a dripping tap, the pressure continuously drops below the cut-in pressure, and the pump repeatedly switches on and off. If the pump keeps switching on and off, it will automatically switch off to prevent unintended water discharge (Error 4 "Leak Warning" will be displayed).

Small Volume Program:

To prevent the pump from switching off prematurely when used with small volumes (e.g., washing machines or drip irrigation), the duration of the small volume program until the leak warning is activated can be set (see GARDENA smart system App / Leak Warning). Cyclic switching of the pump during the small volume program does not affect the pump's lifespan.

Washing Machine Operation (Leak Warning set to 60 minutes):

After the water supply is interrupted during the small volume program, the pump will automatically reset to normal operation after 60 minutes of the small volume program, allowing uninterrupted operation of washing machines for more than 60 minutes.

Operation without Small Volumes (Leak Warning set to 2 minutes):

If small volumes are not required, the leak warning can be shortened to 2 minutes. This provides maximum protection in case of a leak.

Continuous Drip Irrigation (Leak Warning set to OFF):

If the small volume program is to be used for longer than 60 minutes, the leak warning can be deactivated (OFF). Caution! The pump is no longer protected by the leak warning.
