Getting Started
Charging Unit Prior to First Use
If a charger is not included with your unit, use a user-supplied USB-Charger with a Type-A USB connector rated for 5VDC @ 1A.
Steps:
- Plug the USB-charger into a wall outlet.
- Connect the magnetic charger cord to the unit.
- Ensure contacts on BOTH the cord and unit are clean and dry before connecting.
The LED light will display a single, rapid blink every 3 seconds when the unit is fully charged and the charger is connected. A full charge lasts approximately 1 week of typical use.
When batteries are low (approx. 30% charge left), the charge indicator light will blink 8 times quickly after use to indicate recharging is needed. A complete recharge takes 3-4 hours.
Charging frequency recommendation: Charge once a week if used once a day or less. Charge more frequently if used twice a day or more.
Filling the Reservoir
Remove the magnetic charger from the unit before filling.
Lift the flip-top on the reservoir and fill with lukewarm water or a recommended dental professional solution.
Inserting and Removing Tips
To Insert: Place the tip into the center of the knob at the top of the handle. Press firmly until it clicks into place.
To Remove: Press the tip eject button and pull the tip from the handle.
CAUTION: Do not press the tip eject button while the unit is running.
Usage and Technique
Adjusting the Pressure Setting
- First press the power button: Unit starts on "low."
- Second press of the power button: Unit switches to "high."
- Third press of the power button: Unit turns "off."
LED Indicator Behavior:
- Solid: Motor running, battery more than half full.
- Single, rapid blink every 3 seconds: Unit is fully charged and charger is connected.
Recommended Technique
- Lean low over a sink and place the tip in your mouth.
- Aim the tip toward the gumline.
- Turn the unit ON.
- For best results, start with back teeth and work towards front teeth.
- Glide the tip along the gumline, pausing briefly between teeth.
- Continue until all teeth (inside and outside, upper and lower) are cleaned.
- Direct the jet stream at a 90-degree angle to your gumline.
- Slightly close lips to avoid splashing, but allow water to flow freely from mouth into the sink.
- Keep the unit upright during use for best results.
When Finished
- Turn the unit off.
- Empty any remaining liquid from the reservoir.
- The reservoir can be removed from the handle by pulling down on it.
Tip Usage
NOTE: NOT ALL TIPS INCLUDED WITH ALL MODELS.
Pik Pocket™ Tip
This tip is designed to deliver water or anti-bacterial solutions deep into periodontal pockets.
To Use: Set the unit to the lowest pressure setting. Place the soft tip against a tooth at a 45-degree angle and gently place the tip under the gumline, into the pocket.
Tongue Cleaner Tip
To Use: Set to the lowest pressure setting. Place the tip in the center/middle of your tongue about halfway back. Pull forward with light pressure. Increase pressure as preferred.
Orthodontic Tip
To Use: Gently glide the tip along the gumline, pausing briefly to lightly brush the area between teeth and around orthodontic brackets. Proceed to the next tooth.
Toothbrush Tip
To Use: Place the toothbrush tip in your mouth with the brush head on the tooth at the gumline. Can be used with or without toothpaste. Use light pressure (bristles should not bend). Massage back and forth with very short strokes, similar to a manual toothbrush.
Plaque Seeker™ Tip
To Use: Place the tip close to the teeth so bristles gently touch them. Gently glide along the gumline, pausing briefly between teeth to brush and allow water to flow between teeth.
Cleaning and Troubleshooting
Using Mouthwash and Other Solutions
Your Waterpik Water Flosser can be used with mouthwash and antibacterial solutions. To add solutions, remove the reservoir (see "When Finished" section) and add through the top opening. If adding more water, refill the reservoir.
After using any special solution, rinse the unit by partially filling the reservoir with warm water and running the unit with the tip pointed into a sink until empty to prevent clogging.
Cleaning
- Never immerse the unit in water.
- Before cleaning, unplug from the electrical outlet.
- Clean the exterior with a soft cloth and mild, non-abrasive cleanser.
- It is recommended to remove and clean the reservoir weekly.
Removing Hard Water Deposits / General Cleaning

- Add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to a full reservoir of warm water.
- Point the handle and tip into a sink.
- Turn the unit ON and run until the reservoir is empty.

This process should be done every 1 to 3 months for optimal performance.
