Getting Started
Inserting and Removing Tips
To insert a tip, place it in the center of the Water Flosser handle and press down firmly until it clicks into place. A colored ring should be flush with the top of the handle if the tip is correctly locked. To remove a tip, push the tip eject button on the handle.
Powering the Unit
Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet. If the outlet is controlled by a wall switch, ensure the switch is in the ON position.
Preparing the Reservoir
Remove the reservoir from the base, fill it with lukewarm water, replace it over the base, and press down firmly.
Priming Unit (First Time Use Only)
Set the pressure control dial to the highest setting (No. 5). Point the handle and tip into a sink. Turn the unit ON until water flows from the tip, then turn the unit OFF.
Adjusting the Pressure Setting
For first-time use, turn the pressure control dial to the lowest setting (No. 1). Gradually increase the pressure over time to your preferred level, or as instructed by your dental professional.
Using the Water Flosser
Always place the tip in your mouth before turning the unit ON. Lean over a sink and slightly close your lips to prevent splashing, allowing water to flow from your mouth into the sink. Turn the power switch ON. When finished, turn the power switch OFF.
Recommended Technique
For best results, start with back teeth and work towards the front. Direct the water stream at a 90-degree angle to your gumline with the tip in your mouth. Glide the tip along the gumline, pausing briefly between teeth. Continue until you have cleaned the inside and outside of both upper and lower teeth.
When Finished
Turn the unit OFF (O). Empty any remaining liquid from the reservoir. Unplug the unit. If you used a mouthwash or other solution, refer to the "Using Mouthwash or Other Solutions" section.
Tip Usage
Detailed instructions for using specific tips:
- Pik Pocket™ Tip: Specifically designed for deep periodontal pockets. Use the lowest pressure setting. Place the soft tip against a tooth at a 45-degree angle, gently placing it under the gumline into the pocket. Turn the unit ON and glide along the gumline.
- Tongue Cleaner Tip: Use the lowest pressure setting. Place the tip in the center/middle of your tongue, about halfway back. Pull forward with light pressure. Increase pressure as desired.
- Orthodontic Tip: Gently glide the tip along the gumline, pausing briefly to brush the area between teeth and around orthodontic brackets.
- Toothbrush Tip: Place the brush head at the gumline. Use with or without toothpaste. Apply light pressure (bristles should not bend) and massage back and forth with very short strokes, similar to using a manual toothbrush.
- Plaque Seeker™ Tip: Place the tip close to the teeth so the bristles gently touch them. Glide along the gumline, pausing briefly between teeth to brush and allow water to flow between them.
Travel Bag Usage
When packing for travel, remove the handle from its cradle and place it on top of the hose coil.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Using Mouthwash and Other Solutions
The Waterpik Water Flosser can be used with mouthwash and antibacterial solutions. After using any special solution, rinse the unit to prevent clogging. Partially fill the reservoir with warm water and run the unit with the tip pointed into a sink until empty.
Cleaning
Before cleaning, unplug the product. Clean with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleanser as needed. The water reservoir is removable for easy cleaning and is top-rack dishwasher safe.
Removing Hard Water Deposits / General Cleaning
Hard water deposits may accumulate in the unit, depending on water mineral content. If left unattended, performance may be affected. To clean internal parts: add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar to a full reservoir of warm water. Point the handle and tip into a sink. Turn the unit ON and run until the reservoir is empty. Rinse by repeating with a full reservoir of clean warm water. This process should be done every 1 to 3 months for optimal performance.

If leaking occurs due to a damaged hose, replacement hoses and handles can be purchased at www.waterpik.com or by contacting Water Pik Inc. customer service for a self-service repair kit.
