INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

290 SERIES CABINET LOCK

Security Door Controls (SDC) provides these instructions for the installation of the 290 Series Cabinet Lock.

The cabinet lock is designed for installation into cabinets and lockers with either swing or sliding doors. By default, the lock is supplied in the Fail Secure configuration, meaning it remains locked when power is removed.

Lock Mode of Operation Configurations

The lock can operate in two modes: Fail Secure or Fail Safe.

Fail Secure

In Fail Secure mode, the lock is engaged (locked) when no power is applied to the solenoid. Power is required to disengage the lock.

Diagram Description: Shows the lock mechanism in a secured state. Solenoid wires are visible, and an optional lock status sensor is indicated on the side of the mechanism.

Fail Safe

In Fail Safe mode, the lock is disengaged (unlocked) when no power is applied to the solenoid. Power is required to engage the lock.

Diagram Description: Shows the lock mechanism in a disengaged state. Solenoid wires are visible, and an optional lock status sensor is indicated on the side of the mechanism.

Changing Lock Mode of Operation

To switch between Fail Secure and Fail Safe modes:

  1. Remove the two rear solenoid screws.
  2. Reverse the solenoid's position.
  3. Secure the solenoid with the screws and replace the wire in the opposite hole.

Mounting Configurations

The lock can be mounted in various configurations depending on the door type and desired strike position.

Strike Side Entry with Swinging Door

This configuration is for swinging doors where the strike plate is mounted on the side of the door frame, and the lock bolt extends from the door edge into the strike.

Diagram Description: Illustrates a swinging door installation. The strike plate is mounted on the side of the door frame, and the lock bolt extends from the door's edge to engage the strike.

Strike Front Entry with Sliding Door

This configuration is for sliding doors where the strike plate is mounted on the front edge of the door frame, and the lock bolt extends from the door edge into the strike.

Diagram Description: Illustrates a sliding door installation. The strike plate is mounted on the front edge of the door frame, and the lock bolt extends from the door's edge to engage the strike.

Strike Position

The strike can be positioned to accept the lock bolt from any of the three sides: side entry or front entry.

Diagram Description: Shows a strike plate with arrows indicating that the lock bolt can enter from the 'Side Entry' or 'Front Entry' positions.

Mounting Parts

The following parts are typically included for mounting:

  • Cabinet Lock
  • Mounting Screws
  • Adhesive Tape
  • Strike S.S. Plate Cover

LOCK WIRING

Electrical Specifications

ComponentSpecifications
SolenoidDual Voltage (300/150): 12VDC @ 0.3 Amp (Max), 24VDC @ 0.15 Amp (Max)
Lock Status Switch (Optional)30 VDC @ 0.1 Amp (Max)

Solenoid Voltage Configurations

12VDC Solenoid Configuration

For 12VDC operation, connect the 12VDC POWER supply to the solenoid terminals. Typically, the positive (+) of the power supply connects to the solenoid's positive terminal (often RED wire), and the negative (-) connects to the solenoid's negative terminal (often BLK wire). A MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) is usually included for surge protection.

Diagram Description: Illustrates the wiring for a 12VDC solenoid. It shows a 12VDC POWER source connected via a MOV to the SOLENOID terminals. The solenoid wires are labeled BLK and WHT, with a specification of 12VDC @ 300mA (Max).

24VDC Solenoid Configuration

For 24VDC operation, connect the 24VDC POWER supply to the solenoid terminals. Typically, the positive (+) of the power supply connects to the solenoid's positive terminal (often RED wire), and the negative (-) connects to the solenoid's negative terminal (often BLU wire). A MOV is usually included for surge protection.

Diagram Description: Illustrates the wiring for a 24VDC solenoid. It shows a 24VDC POWER source connected via a MOV to the SOLENOID terminals. The solenoid wires are labeled BLU and WHT, with a specification of 24VDC @ 150mA (Max).

Lock Status Switch Wiring (Optional)

Lock Status Switch Wiring for Fail Secure

When the lock is in Fail Secure mode and an optional lock status switch is used, the wiring typically connects the switch terminals (GRN for Normally Closed (N/C), VIO for Common (COM), YEL for Normally Open (N/O)) to the solenoid or control system to indicate the lock's status.

Diagram Description: Shows the wiring for the optional lock status switch in Fail Secure mode. The switch terminals GRN (N/C), VIO (COM), and YEL (N/O) are depicted connected to the SOLENOID.

Lock Status Switch Wiring for Fail Safe

When the lock is in Fail Safe mode and an optional lock status switch is used, the wiring typically connects the switch terminals (YEL for Normally Closed (N/C), VIO for Common (COM), GRN for Normally Open (N/O)) to the solenoid or control system to indicate the lock's status.

Diagram Description: Shows the wiring for the optional lock status switch in Fail Safe mode. The switch terminals YEL (N/C), VIO (COM), and GRN (N/O) are depicted connected to the SOLENOID.

DIMENSIONAL REFERENCES

The following dimensions are provided for the SDC 290 Cabinet Lock. Please note that drawings are not to scale and dimensions are subject to change without notice.

Overall Lock Body Dimensions: The main lock body has a length of approximately 2.550 inches and a width of approximately 1.200 inches. The height of the main body is around 1.188 inches.

Mounting Hole Locations: Mounting holes are positioned on the lock body. Key dimensions include distances from edges, such as 0.840 inches from one end and 0.420 inches from the side for the first set of holes. Another set of holes is located approximately 0.293 inches and 0.585 inches from the opposite end.

Strike Plate Dimensions: The strike plate has a width of approximately 1.100 inches. The engagement portion of the strike has dimensions like 0.625 inches and 0.500 inches, with a depth of 0.250 inches and 0.870 inches for the bolt entry.
