1.0 General Warnings and Information

DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur:

  • Failure to follow these instructions and car seat labels can result in injury or death to a child from striking the vehicle's interior during a sudden stop or crash.
  • Even if the car seat seems easy to use, it is important to read these instructions and the vehicle owner's manual for details.
  • Follow both this manual and your vehicle owner's manual carefully. If there is a conflict, the vehicle owner's manual takes precedence regarding the vehicle's seat belt, LATCH, or airbags.
  • Failure to use the vehicle seat belt or adjust it properly can result in serious injury or death.
  • DO NOT allow others to use this car seat unless they read and understand the instructions and labels and can demonstrate proper use.
  • Use only Baby Trend® car seat accessories. Other accessories may affect your child's safety.
  • DO NOT modify or attach any toys, seat fabric, or other items to this car seat. Untested modifications could result in injury.
  • Secure this car seat with the vehicle seat belt or LATCH Lower anchor connectors at all times, even when empty. An unsecured car seat can injure others in a crash.
  • Direct sunlight can make car seat surfaces hot. Use caution on hot, sunny days.
  • NEVER leave a child unattended.
  • DO NOT use this car seat if it has been in a crash, as it may have hidden damage and must be replaced.
  • DO NOT use this car seat if it is damaged or has missing parts.
  • STOP USING THIS car seat AND PROPERLY DISPOSE after the date on the back of the seat. Dispose in a dark trash bag; DO NOT sell at thrift shops or garage sales.
  • NEVER use this car seat in homes, on boats, in motor homes, low speed vehicles, golf carts, or all-terrain vehicles. Only use in Vehicles and Aircraft.
  • NEVER use this car seat in a vehicle seating position equipped with an active air bag. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for information on turning off airbags or child seating in the front seat.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends children remain rear-facing until age 3 or they reach the manufacturer's height/weight limit.

2.0 Use Recommendations

Baby Trend recommends children remain in a rear-facing car seat as long as possible, until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by the seat.

2.1 Rear Facing Seat Requirements

For rear-facing use (Fig. 5a):

  • Weight: 4 to 40 lbs (1.81 to 18.1 kg)
  • Height: 40 inches (102 cm) or less
  • Top of head has NOT reached 1 inch from the top of the seatback (Fig. 5b).

Child MUST meet ALL these requirements for rear-facing use.

[Diagram showing rear-facing car seat position and head clearance measurement]

2.2 Forward Facing Seat Requirements

For forward-facing use:

  • Weight: 30 to 65 lbs (13.6 to 29.5 kg)
  • Height: 50 inches (127 cm) or less
  • Age: 2 years old
  • Top of the child's ears must be at or below the top of the car seat (Fig. 6a).

Child MUST meet ALL these requirements for forward-facing use.

Baby Trend recommends remaining rear-facing until at least 2 years old. Use of the top tether is required for installation if the vehicle is equipped with a tether anchor.

4.0 Selecting a Vehicle Seating Location

DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur:

IMPROPER PLACEMENT OF THE CAR SEAT INCREASES THE RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

Not all vehicle locations are safe for car seat installation. The car seat must be tightly secured at all times. Consult your vehicle owner's manual if you are uncertain about proper location or installation.

According to accident statistics, children are safer in rear seating positions.

Preferred Location: Secure the car seat in the rear center seating position. Avoid the third row rear seat.

Forward Facing Only: DO NOT place this car seat in any seat that faces the rear or to the side.

Supervision: If possible, have an adult ride in the rear with the child for monitoring.

LATCH System: LATCH may not be available in the center rear seat position. Use the vehicle seat belt if LATCH is not available.

Front Seat Use: Only use a front seating position if there is no passenger side Active Frontal Air bag, and the child requires constant monitoring. Slide the vehicle seat as far back as possible to prevent contact with the dash in a crash.

DO NOT place a rear-facing child seat on a front seat with an active frontal air bag. The back seat is the safest place for children 12 and under.

Seatback Stability: DO NOT use in a vehicle with a seatback that does not lock into place. A folding seatback must have a latch or locking mechanism to prevent forward movement in a crash.

Vehicle Seat Belt Requirements: The car seat MUST be tightly secured by the vehicle seat belt at all times. Some vehicle seat belt systems are NOT safe for use with this car seat. Consult your vehicle owner's manual or manufacturer if unsure.

Safe Vehicle Seat Belt Systems: The following systems CAN BE USED:

  • Lap Belts (Manually Adjusted)
  • Lap Belts with Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR)
  • Combination Lap/Shoulder Belt with Locking Latch Plate
  • Combination Lap/Shoulder Belt with Sliding Latch Plate (requires locked retractor or locking clip)

Unsafe Vehicle Seat Belt Systems: DO NOT use the following systems:

  • Lap Belts with Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR)
  • Combination Lap/Shoulder Belt with Retractor (both lap and shoulder belts have retractors)
  • Passive Restraint – Lap or Shoulder Belt Mounted on Door
  • Passive Restraint – Lap Belt with Motorized Shoulder Belt
  • Lap Belts Forward of Seat Crease

Locking Clip: A locking clip may be needed for certain seat belt systems. Contact Baby Trend at 1-800-328-7363 to obtain a locking clip.

[Diagrams illustrating safe and unsafe seat belt types and locking clip installation]

4.6 Preparation for Installation in Vehicle

LATCH is the recommended method of securing the car seat when available.

FAILURE TO PROPERLY SECURE THE CAR SEAT INCREASES THE RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH IN A CRASH.

Children under 13 are safer in rear seating positions.

  1. Park your vehicle on a level surface. Ensure the Seat Angle Indicator properly shows the recline angle.
  2. Select an acceptable location as instructed in Section 4.0.
  3. Check for active frontal air bags.
  4. If using a front seat, slide the vehicle seat back as far as possible. If using a rear seat, slide the vehicle seat forward to prevent the car seat from striking the seatback in a crash.

4.7 Preparation for Installation with LATCH

Consult your vehicle owner's manual for LATCH anchor point locations and availability.

4.8 LATCH - Top Tether Anchor Locations

Top Tether anchor locations are indicated by a specific symbol.

Baby Trend requires the use of the top tether if your vehicle is equipped with one. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for locations.

Consult your vehicle owner's manual for exact LATCH locations, anchor identification, and usage requirements.

Maximum Child Weight for LATCH: 55 lbs (24.94 kg).

[Diagrams showing examples of top tether anchor locations: Ceiling mount, Rear Package Shelf, Pick up truck, Vehicle with reinforced seats, Floor Mounts]

5.0 Installation and Use

Top Tether Weight Limit: 65 lbs (29.48 kg).

DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur:

Baby Trend recommends children remain rear-facing as long as possible.

  • Rear Facing: Use with infants weighing less than 30 lbs (13.6 kg).
  • General Use: 4-65 lbs (1.81-29.48 kg), Height 50 inches (127 cm) or less.
  • Forward Facing: Age 2 years, 30-65 lbs (13.6-29.5 kg).
  • Harness Adjustment: Adjust straps snugly so you cannot pinch webbing.
  • Secure the top anchorage strap.
  • Secure the child seat using the vehicle's LATCH system or a lap/shoulder belt.
  • Call 1-800-328-7363 for instructions if needed.
  • Use vehicle seat belt (not LATCH) for children weighing more than 55 lbs (24.9 kg).
  • Register your car seat with Baby Trend.
  • DO NOT place a rear-facing child seat in a front seat with an active airbag.
  • NEVER leave a child unattended.

5.1 Child Placement in The Car Seat

  1. Place child with back flat against the seatback and bottom touching the seat.
  2. Rear Facing: Harness straps should be at or below the child's shoulders.
  3. Forward Facing: Harness straps should be at or slightly above the child's shoulders. Use slots 3, 4, and 5 for forward facing.
  4. Place harness straps over the child's shoulders.
  5. Insert buckle tongues into the crotch buckle. Pull up and test to ensure they are secure.
  6. Place chest clip at armpit level. Press together and pull outward to ensure it is secure.
