Yamaha Acoustic Electric Guitar Owner's Manual

Introduction

Thank you for choosing a Yamaha electric-acoustic guitar. To make the most of the advanced features and performance provided by your guitar, please read this manual carefully before using the instrument.

Nomenclature/The Controls

Control Section: Contains controls for the guitar's electronics.

  • VOL Control: Controls the overall volume. Always set to minimum when connecting or disconnecting cables.
  • TONE Control: Adjusts bass and treble frequencies. Rotating right increases both; rotating left decreases them. Both are flat at the center position.
  • Tuner Display: Shows tuner information. The battery indicator lamps will flash alternately when battery power is low.
  • TUNER Switch: Turns the built-in tuner ON/OFF.

Pickup Section: Features a contact pickup installed inside the body.

Battery Holder: Located within the guitar body.

Output Jack (with power switch function): The built-in preamplifier automatically turns ON when a guitar cable is connected to this jack.

Precautions

Please read the following precautions carefully before proceeding. Keep this manual in a safe and handy place for future reference.

WARNING

Always follow the basic precautions listed below to avoid the possibility of serious injury or even death from electrical shock, short-circuiting, damages, fire, or other hazards. These precautions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Do not open: This instrument contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not open or attempt to modify the internal components. If malfunctioning, discontinue use and have it inspected by qualified Yamaha service personnel.
  • Water warning: Do not expose to rain, use near water, or in damp/wet conditions. Do not place near containers with liquids. If liquid seeps in, turn off power immediately and have it inspected by qualified Yamaha service personnel.
  • If you notice any abnormality: If the instrument emits unusual smells or smoke, if an object is dropped inside, or if there is a sudden loss of sound, immediately turn off the power, remove batteries, and have it inspected by Yamaha service personnel.

CAUTION

Always follow the basic precautions listed below to avoid the possibility of physical injury to you or others, or damage to the instrument or other property. These precautions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Connection: Before connecting to other electronic components, turn off power for all components and set all volume levels to minimum. Gradually raise volume controls while playing to set the desired level.
  • Location: Do not place the instrument in an unstable position where it might accidentally fall over.
  • Handling caution: Do not rest weight on, place heavy objects on, or use excessive force on buttons, switches, or connectors. Do not use the instrument or headphones for extended periods at high volume levels, as this can cause permanent hearing loss. Consult a physician if you experience hearing loss or ringing in the ears.

Yamaha cannot be held responsible for damage caused by improper use, modifications, or lost/destroyed data.

Information on battery replacement is found in its dedicated section. Please read the instruction manual for external audio devices (e.g., guitar amplifier) before use.

Battery Replacement

As battery power depletes, the indicator lamps will flash alternately. Replace the batteries as soon as possible.

Note: These lamps are displayed only when a cable is plugged into the output jack or the tuner is ON.

Steps:

  1. Press the release lever in the direction indicated by the arrow to unlock the battery holder, then slide it out.
  2. Remove old batteries and insert two new size AA alkaline batteries. Ensure poles are correctly aligned as shown inside the holder.
  3. Slide the battery holder back into the guitar body and press firmly until it locks in place.

Diagram Description: Shows the battery holder with a release lever and space for two AA alkaline batteries.

Using the Tuner

Steps:

  1. Press and hold the TUNER switch until the display lights up to turn the tuner ON.
  2. Tune the guitar string until the correct note name appears in the display.
  3. The string is in tune when only the center lamp in the display lights up. The display indicates pitch status: "Pitch is low" (left), "In Tune" (center), "Pitch is high" (right).
  4. Press the TUNER switch again to turn the tuner OFF. The tuner also automatically switches OFF if no note is detected for over 1 minute.

Notes:

  • It may take a few seconds for the tuner to detect pitches after being switched ON.
  • The note name and indicator displays may have difficulty keeping up with irregular pitch changes; change pitch gradually.
  • The tuner may not detect notes rich with overtones or with very short sustain.
  • Sound output is not muted while the tuner is being used.
