Safety Precautions
Preventing Unexpected Injuries and Accidents
- When using a strap, make sure the strap is securely attached to the guitar. Do not swing the instrument around, as the strap may detach, causing the instrument to fall or injure others.
- Do not place your face close to the instrument when changing or adjusting strings. Strings may break suddenly and cause eye injuries or other unexpected injuries.
- After changing strings, cut off any excess string ends, as they are sharp and can cause injuries.
- Clean the instrument with a soft, dry cloth. Be careful not to injure yourself on sharp string ends when cleaning the headstock.
Handling and Other Cautions
- Keep the instrument away from fire or flames and store it on a low, stable surface. It can catch fire, and earthquakes can cause it to fall if stored in a high location.
- Do not leave the instrument leaning against a wall, etc., near children, as it may be bumped and fall, causing injury.
- Long-term storage in the case may adversely affect the guitar. Open the case occasionally to allow air circulation.
- Do not leave the instrument inside a car, especially during summer, as temperatures can become extremely high.
Instrument Adjustment and Maintenance
Tuning Machine Tension Adjustment
The tuning machines have spring-loaded mechanisms that automatically take up wear, preventing backlash. You can adjust the pressure required to turn the machines using the tension adjustment screw (q).
- To tighten: Turn the adjustment screw clockwise.
- To loosen: Turn the adjustment screw counterclockwise.
Adjust the machines so they are firm but turn smoothly. Excessive tightening can lead to premature wear.
Truss Rod Adjustment
The neck curvature should be slightly concave. Adjustments should be made gradually, allowing 5-10 minutes for the neck to settle after each 1/2 turn of the truss rod nut.
- To correct excessive convex bend (neck too straight): Tighten the truss rod nut (turn clockwise).
- To correct excessive concave bow (neck bent too much): Loosen the truss rod nut (turn counterclockwise).
Note: If you are not experienced with truss rods, it is recommended to have this adjustment done by a dealer.
Changing the Strings (Classical Guitar)
Follow these steps when attaching new strings:
- Tie the strings to the bridge. Ensure the last knot is positioned over the edge of the bridge.
- Wind the strings onto the tuning pegs. For the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd strings, if the string slips, tie an additional knot. Wrap the string once on the 2nd string side, then wrap towards the 1st string's peg. For the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th strings, wind in the opposite direction.
- After all six strings are wound, tune the instrument using a tuning meter or tuning fork.
Proper Instrument Storage
Store the instrument in a location protected from:
- Direct sunlight
- Extreme temperatures (high or low)
- High humidity, dust, or vibrations
- Do not leave the instrument in a car during hot weather.
