Safety Instructions

General Safety for Power Tools

  • Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Avoid working in explosive atmospheres. Keep children and bystanders away.
  • Electrical Safety: Ensure plugs fit sockets. Do not modify plugs. Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces. Keep tools dry. Do not carry by the cord. Use suitable extension cords for outdoor use. Use a residual current device (RCD) in damp conditions.
  • Personal Safety: Stay alert and use common sense. Do not operate when tired or under the influence of substances. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, dust masks, and gloves. Avoid accidental starting by ensuring the tool is off before connecting the battery or picking it up. Remove the battery before making adjustments or changing accessories. Keep tools out of reach of children and untrained persons. Maintain tools properly; sharp cutting tools are easier to control.
  • Proper Use: Do not overload the tool. Use the correct tool for the job. Do not use tools with faulty switches.
  • Battery Tool Usage: Only charge batteries with the recommended charger. Do not expose batteries to heat, fire, water, or moisture, as this can cause explosions. Keep batteries away from metal objects like paper clips or coins to prevent short circuits. If battery fluid leaks, rinse with water and seek medical attention if necessary.

Specific Safety for Reciprocating Saws:

  • Hold the tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing operations where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring. Contact with a live wire can energize exposed metal parts and cause electric shock.
  • Always wear a dust mask.

Safety for Chargers:

  • This device can be used by children aged 8 and above, and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, if supervised or instructed on safe use and understand the resulting hazards. Children must not play with the device. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by children without supervision.
  • If the mains cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or their customer service to avoid hazards.
  • The charger is intended for indoor use only.

Saw Blade Information:

  • Use any saw blade with the correct 1/2" (12.7 mm) universal shank. Blades optimized for specific tasks are available.
  • TPI = Teeth Per Inch (number of teeth per 2.54 cm).
  • Wood saw blades (e.g., 152.5 x 0.9 mm, 6-12 TPI) are suitable for construction wood, panel, and plywood, including plunge cuts.

Before Use

Charging the Battery Pack (See Fig. A):

  • Always unplug the charger before inserting or removing the battery pack.
  • Do not charge batteries at temperatures below 10°C or above 40°C.
  • For long-term storage of a lithium-ion battery, regularly check the charge level. The optimal charge level is between 50% and 80%. Store in a cool, dry environment (0°C to 50°C).
  • Insert the battery pack into the fast charger.
  • Plug the charger into the socket. The red charge indicator LED will light up.
  • The green charge indicator LED will light up when charging is complete and the battery pack is ready for use.

Caution: If the red LED blinks, the battery pack is overheated and cannot be charged. If both red and green LEDs blink, the battery pack is defective.

Inserting/Removing the Battery Pack:

  • To Insert: Slide the battery pack into the device until it clicks into place.
  • To Remove: Press the release button and remove the battery pack.

Checking Battery Status:

  • Press the battery status button. The battery display LED indicates the charge level:
  • RED / ORANGE / GREEN = Full charge
  • RED / ORANGE = Medium charge
  • RED = Low charge - charge the battery.

Operation

Mounting/Changing the Saw Blade:

WARNING: Remove the battery before any work on the tool (e.g., maintenance, accessory changes), transport, or storage. Accidental activation of the ON/OFF switch can cause injury.

  • Turn the quick-release chuck to the stop and hold it in position.
  • Insert the required saw blade until it stops in the chuck.
  • CAUTION: The teeth of the saw blade must point downwards!
  • Release the quick-release chuck; it should return to its original position. The saw blade is now locked.

Adjusting the Shoe Plate:

WARNING: Turn off the device and remove the battery before any work on the unit.

  • Adjust the shoe plate according to the desired cutting depth.
  • Loosen the locking lever, position the shoe plate, and then tighten the locking lever to secure the position.

Adjusting Pendulum Action:

  • The pendulum action can be adjusted using the pendulum action switch.
  • Setting "0" (No Pendulum Action): For fine and clean cut edges. Recommended for thin workpieces.
  • Setting "I" (Pendulum Action): For faster cutting progress.

Starting and Stopping:

  • To Start: Press the lock-off switch, then press the ON/OFF switch. Release the lock-off switch.
  • To Stop: Release the ON/OFF switch.

Adjusting Speed:

  • Light pressure on the ON/OFF switch results in low speed. Increasing pressure increases the speed.
  • The integrated motor brake ensures a quick stop.

Safe Handling of the Reciprocating Saw:

  • The shoe plate is pivotable for adapting to the workpiece and for secure support. It must always rest against the workpiece during operation.

Cutting Tips:

  • Check the material for foreign objects like nails or screws and remove them.
  • Ensure ventilation slots are not obstructed.
  • Turn on the tool before bringing it to the workpiece.
  • If the saw blade jams, immediately turn off the tool. Spread the cut with a suitable tool and pull out the saw.
  • Match the saw blade and stroke rate to the material being cut.
  • Use appropriate saw blades for different applications.
  • Saw with consistent feed pressure.

Flush Cutting:

  • With flexible saw blades, you can cut protruding workpieces (e.g., pipes) flush against a wall.
  • Position the saw blade directly against the wall.
  • Bend the saw slightly with lateral pressure so the shoe plate rests against the wall.
  • Switch on the tool and cut the workpiece with constant pressure.

Plunge Cutting:

CAUTION: RECOIL HAZARD! Plunge cuts should only be performed in soft materials (wood, etc.).

  • Place the saw with the underside of the shoe plate onto the workpiece. Turn on the tool.
  • Tilt the saw forward and plunge the blade into the workpiece.
  • Position the saw vertically and continue cutting along the line.

Maintenance and Cleaning

WARNING: RISK OF INJURY! Turn off the device and remove the battery before any work.

  • Keep the device clean, dry, and free from oil or grease.
  • Use a dry cloth to clean the housing.
  • Replace the saw blade when it becomes dull and no longer allows for clean sawing.
  • Keep the device and ventilation slots clean. Blocked slots can lead to overheating or damage.
  • Clean the device after finishing work.
  • Do not allow liquids to enter the device. Use a cloth for cleaning. Never use petrol, solvents, or cleaners that attack plastic.
  • Clean the saw blade holder with a brush or compressed air if necessary.
  • For long-term storage of a lithium-ion battery, regularly check the charge level. Optimal charge is 50-80%. Optimal storage climate is cool and dry.
