General Safety Instructions for Power Tools

Read all safety instructions and guidelines. Failure to follow these may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury. Keep all instructions for future reference. The term "power tool" refers to mains-powered or battery-powered tools.

1. Workplace Safety

  • Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Clutter and poor lighting can lead to accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres where flammable liquids, gases, or dust are present. Power tools create sparks that can ignite dust or vapors.
  • Keep children and other persons away from the work area. Distractions can lead to loss of control.

2. Electrical Safety

  • Ensure the power tool's plug fits the socket. Do not modify the plug. Avoid using adapter plugs with earthed tools. Unmodified plugs and matching sockets reduce the risk of electric shock.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces (pipes, radiators, stoves, refrigerators). Increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
  • Keep power tools away from rain or moisture. Water ingress increases the risk of electric shock.
  • Do not misuse the cable for carrying, hanging, or unplugging. Keep the cable away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Damaged or tangled cables increase the risk of electric shock.
  • When working outdoors, use only extension cords suitable for outdoor use. This reduces the risk of electric shock.
  • If operation in damp environments is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD). This reduces the risk of electric shock.

3. Personal Safety

  • Stay attentive, use common sense, and work responsibly. Do not use power tools when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention can lead to serious injury.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses ?. PPE such as dust masks, non-slip footwear, safety helmets, or hearing protection, depending on the tool and its use, reduces the risk of injury.
  • Avoid unintentional starting. Ensure the tool is switched off before connecting to power or battery, picking it up, or carrying it. Carrying the tool with a finger on the switch or connecting it while switched on can cause accidents.
  • Remove adjustment tools or wrenches before switching on the power tool. A tool left in a rotating part can cause injury.
  • Maintain a stable stance and balance at all times. This allows for better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
  • Wear appropriate clothing. Avoid loose clothing or jewelry. Keep hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose items can be caught by moving parts.

Tool Usage and Handling

  • Do not overload the tool. Use the appropriate power tool for your work. Using the correct tool ensures better and safer performance within its specified range.
  • Do not use a power tool with a defective switch. A tool that cannot be switched on or off is dangerous and requires repair.
  • Disconnect the plug and/or remove the battery before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool. This prevents unintentional starting.
  • Store unused power tools out of the reach of children. Do not allow persons unfamiliar with the tool or these instructions to use it. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of inexperienced users.
  • Maintain power tools with care. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage, or any other condition that may affect the tool's operation. Have damaged parts repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
  • Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Sharp, well-maintained cutting tools jam less and are easier to guide.
  • Use power tools, accessories, and bits according to these instructions, considering the working conditions and the task. Using power tools for applications other than their intended purpose can lead to hazardous situations.

Battery Tool Usage and Handling

  • Charge batteries only with chargers recommended by the manufacturer. Using a charger intended for a specific battery type with other batteries can pose a fire hazard.
  • Use only the intended batteries in the power tools. Using other batteries can lead to injuries and fire hazards.
  • Keep unused batteries away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that could bridge the contacts. Short-circuiting the battery contacts can cause burns or fire.
  • Battery fluid may leak if misused. Avoid contact. If contact occurs, rinse with water. If fluid gets into eyes, seek medical attention. Leaking battery fluid can cause skin irritation or burns.

CAUTION! EXPLOSION HAZARD! ?

Never attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries.

Protect the battery from heat, e.g., from prolonged sunlight, fire, water, and moisture. There is an explosion hazard.

Service

Have your power tools repaired only by qualified personnel using original spare parts. This ensures the safety of the power tool is maintained.

Specific Safety Instructions for Impact Wrenches

  • Wear hearing protection ? when impact wrenching. Noise exposure can cause hearing loss.
  • Secure the workpiece. A workpiece held by clamping devices or a vice is held more securely than by hand.
  • Hold the power tool firmly. High reaction torques can occur briefly when tightening and loosening screws.
  • Wait until the power tool has come to a complete stop before setting it down. The accessory tool can jam and lead to loss of control.
  • Hold the tool by the insulated grip surfaces when performing work where the screw or accessory tool may contact hidden electrical lines. Contacting a live line can also energize metal tool parts and cause electric shock.

Safety Instructions for Chargers
