Intermatic T101P201/T101R201 24-Hour Time Switch with Fireman Switch
Models T101P201 (Plastic Enclosure) and T101R201 (Metal Enclosure)
This document provides information on the Intermatic 24-hour dial time switch with a fireman switch, designed for controlling gas-fired pool heaters.
Product Overview
The Intermatic T101P201 (plastic enclosure) and T101R201 (metal enclosure) are 24-hour dial time switches featuring a fireman switch. This timer is designed to turn off gas-fired pool heaters 15-20 minutes before the filter pump shuts off. This feature helps prevent knocking caused by overheated water, reduces scale and lime buildup, and extends the service life of the heater.
Heater Protection Circuit: 10A 240V maximum.

Wiring Diagram
The wiring diagram illustrates the connections for the 120V supply (LINE, NEUT, GRD) to the LOAD, TRIPPER, and CLOCK MOTOR terminals.
Programming Dial
The programming dial includes a TIME DIAL, TIME POINTER, TRIPPERs, and a MANUAL LEVER. Trippers are used to set ON and OFF times, and the manual lever allows for manual operation.
Wiring Instructions and Gauge Selection
Follow the provided diagram for wiring. Use solid or stranded COPPER wire with insulation suitable for the installation. For power connections, remove 1/2 inch of insulation from wire ends and insert bare ends under the pressure plate of terminals. Tighten terminal screws firmly with a 3/16 or larger screwdriver (25 lb-in minimum). Ensure wire insulation clears the pressure plate.
Wire Gauge Selection Table:
MINIMUM COPPER WIRE SIZE (AWG) | MAX. LOAD (AMP) | MIN. INSUL- ATION TEMP(°C) | 75°C INSULATION MAX. MOTOR LOAD (HP) - SINGLE PHASE | 3 PHASE | ||

120 Volt Water Heater Timer Circuit
The circuit diagram shows the 120V supply (Hot, Neutral, Ground) connected to the timer terminals (labeled A, 1, 2) and then routed to the Load (Hot, Neutral, Ground).
Fireman Switch Installation
The fireman switch is installed to connect to the HEATER and T. STAT (Thermostat). It includes an ON/OFF switch for the IGNITION SYSTEM.
Warning: Do not disconnect high limit or pressure switches.
Programming Instructions
- To Set "ON" and "OFF" Times: Hold trippers against the edge of the CLOCK-DIAL. Point to the time (AM or PM) when ON and OFF operations are desired. Tighten tripper screws firmly. For additional tripper pairs on the CLOCK-DIAL, order part number 156T1978A.
- To Set Time-of-Day: Pull the CLOCK-DIAL outward. Turn it in either direction and align the exact time-of-day on the CLOCK-DIAL (the current time) to the pointer. Do not move the pointer.
Operating Instructions
- To Operate Switch Manually: Move the MANUAL LEVER below the CLOCK-DIAL left or right as indicated by arrows. This action will not affect the next scheduled operation.
- In Case of Power Failure: Reset the CLOCK-DIAL to the proper time-of-day. Refer to the programming instructions.
