Hinkley Lighting Fixture Mounting Instructions
Models: 3266 / 3268 / 3269
Safety Warning
⚠️ SAFETY WARNING: READ WIRING AND GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS (I.S. 18) AND ANY ADDITIONAL DIRECTIONS. TURN POWER SUPPLY OFF DURING INSTALLATION. IF NEW WIRING IS REQUIRED, CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN OR LOCAL AUTHORITIES FOR CODE REQUIREMENTS.
General Assembly Instructions
Step 1: Power Off
Shut off electrical current before starting. If the fixture you are replacing is controlled by a wall switch, turn the switch off. Otherwise, remove the appropriate fuse or open the circuit breaker until the fixture is dead. Do not restore current until the new fixture is completely wired and in place.
Step 2: Prepare Fixture Stems
To assemble the fixture, first remove the swivels (C) from the top of the supplied stems (refer to Drawing 1).
Step 3: Determine Stem Length
Determine the required length of stems to hang your fixture at the desired height (refer to Drawing 2). Slip one set of stems over the supply wire and thread them into coupler (1) at the top of the fixture. Then, assemble the matching set of stems and thread them into coupler (2) on the top of the fixture.
Step 4: Attach Canopy and Swivels
After assembling the stems, thread the swivels (C) (removed earlier) onto the ends of the assembled stems. Ensure the supply wire is slipped through the center hole of one swivel (refer to Drawing 3). Remove the hex nut and lockwashers from the swivels (C). Slip the top threaded portion of the coupler through the mounting holes (H) in the canopy (D) and through the holes in the reinforcement plate (R) in the canopy. Attach the swivel (C) to the canopy using the hex nuts and lockwashers removed earlier. Note: Attach the supplied lanyard (L) to one of the swivels; this will be used later during installation.
Step 5: Mount Fixture to Ceiling
First, attach the mounting bracket (1) to the junction box (J) mounted in the ceiling (refer to DRAWING 4). Next, thread the center threaded tube (3) into the center hole of the mounting bracket (1) approximately 1/2" (12.5mm).
With assistance, lift the assembled fixture and hook it into the mounting strap using the hook on the end of the inspection cable. Slowly release the fixture until it is safely hanging from the inspection cable (refer to DETAIL 1).
Make all necessary electrical connections following the provided instruction sheet (I.S. 18). After all connections are made, tuck the wires into the junction box. Lift the fixture and slide the threaded tube (3) through the center hole in the canopy, holding the canopy in position. Finally, thread the knob (5) onto the end of the threaded tube (3) and tighten to secure the fixture to the ceiling.
Glass Installation
Instructions for Glass Installation (Drawing 1 - Glass Installation):
- Find a clear area to work.
- Unpack the fixture and glass from the carton.
- Carefully review instructions prior to assembly.
- After all parts of your fixture have been unpacked, proceed to the instruction sheet (IS19-92) for fixture assembly and installation. Return to this page for glass installation instructions upon completion of the main installation.
- To install the glass, first remove the knurled screws (1) from the glass fitter (2).
- Thread the lamp (L), not provided, into the socket.
- Take the glass (3) and slip the top into the glass fitter (2).
- Now thread in the knurled screws (1) removed earlier. Tighten screws until snug. Use fingers only to tighten; over-tightening with a tool could damage the glass.
Wiring and Grounding Instructions (I.S. 18)
Wiring Instructions
Indoor Fixtures:
- Connect the positive supply wire (A) (typically black or the smooth, unmarked side of the two-conductor cord) to the fixture's positive lead (B) using an appropriately sized twist-on connector (refer to Drawings 1 or 2).
- Connect the negative supply wire (C) (typically white or the ribbed, marked side of the two-conductor cord) to the fixture's negative lead (D).
- Refer to the grounding instructions below to complete all electrical connections.
Outdoor Fixtures:
- Connect the positive supply wire (A) (typically black or the smooth, unmarked side of the two-conductor cord) to the fixture's positive lead (B) using an appropriately sized twist-on connector (refer to Drawings 2 or 3).
- Connect the negative supply wire (C) (typically white or the ribbed, marked side of the two-conductor cord) to the fixture's negative lead (D).
- Cover the open end of connectors with silicone sealant to form a watertight seal.
- If installing a wall mount fixture, use caulk to seal gaps between the fixture mounting plate (backplate) and the wall to prevent water entry into the outlet box. For lap siding, use caulk and a fixture mounting platform.
- Refer to the grounding instructions below to complete all electrical connections.
Grounding Instructions
Flush Mount Fixtures:
For positive grounding in a 3-wire electrical system, fasten the fixture ground wire (E) (typically copper or green plastic coated) to the fixture mounting strap (M) with the ground screw (S) (see Drawing 1). Note: For screw-supported fixtures, install the two mounting screws first. Any remaining tapped hole can be used for the ground screw.
Chain Hung Fixtures:
Loop the fixture ground wire (E) (typically copper or green plastic coated) under the head of the ground screw (S) on the fixture mounting strap (M). Connect the loose end of the fixture ground wire directly to the ground wire of the building system using appropriately sized twist-on connectors (see Drawing 2).
Post-Mount Fixtures:
Connect the fixture ground wire (E) (typically copper or green plastic coated) to the power supply ground with an appropriately sized twist-on connector inside the post. Cover the open end of the connector with silicone sealant to form a watertight seal (see Drawing 3).
